Incorrect on the snake lengths and the 30+ foot claim. In 1992 two German Herpetologists reported their findings in a publication. The longest verified snake on Earth was an African Rock Python at 33' 7" long. The second longest that they confirmed was a Green Anaconda at 33' 2" long. The Anaconda was more than triple the weight of the African Rock Python. Burmese Pythons, Reticulated Pythons and Amethystine Pythons are all respectively smaller.
Once I was on a hike and thought I saw Steve Backshall walk past me. I kept walking for a while before I decided I had to see if it was him and say hi. I ran back on myself for about a mile before I reached the guy. It wasn't Steve Backshall but I guess I learned that day that I'd run a mile to meet him if I could.
When Steve Irwin passed, I turned to Steve Backshall when I was a kid, to keep up my interest in nature and animals. I was obsessed with the program Deadly 60!
In Dutch a unicorn is literally just called a "one horn". Ik if you break down the English word it means that too, but at least we put some effort into it.
steve backshall was the reason i got bitten by an adder at thirteen years old and had to lie to my family and multiple local news sites about the origin of my bite. turns out that picking up snakes isn't actually as easy as he always made it look. legend.
I've never known someone's voice could be considered nostalgic, this man is such a wonderful person for revealing to young people how brilliant the natural world is. Thank you for making me a nature nerd, Steve.
I met Steve while i was on holiday 2 years ago. He stepped off a wildlife watching boat while i was kayaking around. I thought he looked like Steve but i had no idea it was really him. We met him in the pub later that evening, him, his wife, and his kids. As youd imagine, they were all lovely. This man was my childhood 🙌
Aw man, my partner would have loved that! When she went to uni doing animal biology, everyone would talk about David Attenborough. But her go-to was Steve.
I don’t understand why he is seen as a replacement and not just another well loved animal expert. He is worthy of his fame without being labelled a replacement.
Love this. I grew up watching deadly 60 and very nearly went to Bangor University in Wales to do a degree on zoology with a focus in primatology, where steve backshall would have been one of the lecturers
Backshall is really entertaining. He's a great go between, between Steve Irwin and someone like Attenborough. He gives enough detail to keep an adult's attention and is enthusiastic enough to keep kids entertained too.
I never realized just how powerful a cow was until I visited a dairy farm. The bulls were very obviously massive and powerful, but when I saw the cow up close, I was quite literally shocked at just how massive and strong they were, and when a cow had a calve nearby, they watched every little thing you did intently.
Steve Backshall is and always will be a legend in my eyes. From Deadly 60 to Expedition with Steve Backshall, all of his shows were always so engaging and exciting thanks to his raw enthusiasm and passion. Being born in 1998, for me, he picked up the torch from Steve Irwin (RIP Absolute legend too🙏🏼) when he tragically lost his life, and brought interesing, exciting educational nature content to our screens once again. Shows like these helped me to understand there is an extreme wealth of life beyond the human world we often pay too much of our attention to instead. Much respect Steve!❤️😎
Had the pleasure of meeting steve when i was a kid on the Isles of Scilly. I loved deadly 60 growing up and word spread around the island so fast that he was there filming something. From memory he was clearly in the middle of something, but he still took the time to stop what he was doing to take a picture with us. I was probably 9 then and i'm 24 now and still remember how kind he was to this day.
He has such an engaging & magnetic personality. what he has done to raise the awareness of wild animals around the world is an important community service.
I love this man hes such a good bloke its one of the unique things in celebrities and showbiz that wildlife celebrities almost always stay true to themselves and just generally decent people
Some of most dangerous animals country wise. USA: Crocs and rattlesnake Africa: Black mamba and hippos India: King cobra and Bengal tiger Australia: Sharks and spiders UK: Cows
crazy that you gave america crocs and australia sharks, when we have saltwater crocodiles, which are not only the most dangerous type of croc, but one of the most dangerous animals in the world, they're extremely aggressive, and as far as i know, have the strongest bite force of any animal on the planet (although search results seem to differ between multiple animals for some reason) i encourage you to google about them, they're extremely fascinating, and also terrifying.
I'm so excited to see this man on here! Him and Steve Irwin definitely helped with my love of animals! I used to LOVE deadly 60 and id try to never miss an episode haha
wow! I'd watch Deadly 60 before school in the mornings...Steven Backshall is such an eloquent and empathetic man, I wish him and his family nothing but the best.
I just got a job as an animal presenter! I’m currently being trained in animal handling and I’m loving it so far. I get so giddy that I get to work with animals everyday🥲😊
Steve Backshall might not be as iconic as the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin but he did a decent job and deadly 60 was a great show back in the day when I was a kid. I would love to have seen a crossover episode between Steve Backshall and Steve Irwin the two Steve Wildmen tackling dangerous animals together.
Steve is my fave wildlife presenter after Sir David Attenborough. Loved the croc programme Steve did when he was starstruck when he met Henry the massive croc. I think it's the same one linked in the description box, well worth checking out.
As a child when we were camping, my parents and elder sisters were putting up the tent, I got to a fence nearby with "cows." I climbed on it and petted them until I yelled to my family: "Oh look, how cute, these cows have curls." The one time my family did a race to get me away from the fence of a "cow" meadow.
Fun fact: in Brazil we say "jiboiar" that translates as " act like a boa constrictor" as a verb to describe the act of resting throughout digestion of copious amounts of food.
Steve Backshall seems like such a legend and chilled guy! If you're ever in South Africa I would love to sit around a braai and talk for hours on end with you!
I agree! Sir David Attenborough is an excellent narrator. I absolutely love watching him. I wish I had every single episode, movie, documentary that he has ever been in.
what an utterly delightful video! usually i only listen to youtube while doing something else on the side, but here i was all in with my attention, that's rare:)
I watched Steve Backshall since I was about 15 and I have to say he is a idol of mine. Steve seems like the most likeable bloke in the world, he does seem like a top human being and for me the guy I’d choose after Attenborough as my fav wildlife guru.
“This is a blue tongued skink and he got that name because he’s got a blue tongue and he’s a skink” 😂😂😂 I was in a taxi in London once and the driver said he had Steve in his cab once and he’s a really nice bloke. Absolutely ripped too 😂
I still remember watching the bullet ant ritual.. I was maybe 14 or 15 at the time and absolutely adored Steve for his animal related stuff. But that ritual was a different playground, I thought to myself "na, Steve's got this". T'was madness to see! Much love everyone.
You can feel his enthusiasm even now. My big regret is not working with animals and choosing people. Sir David is everybody's inspiration surely. How must his parents have felt? One son is a pioneer in nature programmes and the other an amazing actor and top director. the other son an amazing actor and top
if theres a kids tv host i would absolutely love to meet, its steve. i remember watching deadly 60 before school most days, and the love and fascination he has with the animal kingdom is so infectious. even though ive grown up watching him for years, id love to go for a pint with the guy. i dont even drink beer

deadly 60 was so sick

I used to watch Deadly 60 and a zoo program before school everyday. I used to love it, slight bit of excitement before the drudge of school, lol.

Yeah, he's pretty awesome. I had no idea he existed until I happened upon this video by chance. Love his sense of humor.... Gonna find his old show

I used to watch this guy on Deadly 60 almost everyday, massive part of my childhood
Me too! Made me feel so old the nostalgia is amazing
Same
Everyone here will be excited to know he’s making a new series. Series 5, I saw the announcement on Steve’s Twitter account.
Me to age just a number
“This is a blue tongued skink. He’s called that because he has a blue tongue, and he’s a skink.” Idk why but I laughed so hard at that 😂

I, for one, am glad he clarified that. I thought it was a horse at first.
That transition from him talking about how sad it is that an animal will be extinct soon to Tim Peake talking about farting in space is wild
I feel like a pause for impact was called for.
