So I just watched your latest video about you leaving MBTI and I came up with the same conclusion not too long ago and that lead me to watching all your videos and I can relate so much with this video. Every time I didn't want to do something or got upset I always gave reason saying that I'm an INFJ and thats why this is happening.
And thats why I came to the same conclusion as your latest video about your update.
I also subscribed despite you uploading or not.
You've been much help on this journey being an INFJ, as you said it will be difficult to unsee and live without noticing my function and INFJ traits.
    Thank you.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It might help you to remind yourself that personality testing is descriptive but not restrictive. Tests categorize how you normally act; however, that does not stop you from developing other parts of your mind or intentionally changing behavior. I look forward to your next video.

Haha, I can relate so much ! How often have I not asked myself: "Why does mbti/enneagram give me so much excuses to be (even more) lazy ?" lol.
I do think that is a false belief however. Simply because every single person has all 8 functions in their brain. Only the way in which types use them is different. So when presented with any given problem, you should be able to solve it using a combination of any of your functions. If you find that mbti/enneagram is limiting you, then maybe it is because your interpretation of it is getting too fixed. After all they are endlessly dynamic systems, so they stop being helpful when you fixate them. They require a constant open mind if you want to keep getting insights out of them.
There is no reason why you should neglect an opportunity to develop any of your functions, also the weak ones and the shadow ones. It's usually an enrichment. Se and Ti are your areas of growth and are the counterbalance for Ni and Fe. Also shadow functions are very important. They provide all the back-up for your active functions. If you practice more ideastorming (Ne), your Ni-visions will become a lot more accurate and realistic. If you practice awareness of your inner states (Fi), your Fe will become more heartfelt and sincere. If you practice fact-checking and data researching (Te), your Ti will become more precise and you will keep yourself out of the dangerous loops. If you practice composure and self-control (Si), your Se will become a lot more reliable and it will be more 'fresh and ready' to go conquer the world. The same things counts for enneagram (integration-desintegration, tritypes, wingtypes,...).
Ofcourse you should not be doing an ISTJ job 24/7. That's just unnecessarily exhausting. But still there is no reason why an INFJ is not capable of that kind of job. So yes, you should challenge yourself by doing more 'atypical' INFJ-things every now and then. Mbti/enneagram provides a 1000 possible solutions you can come up with. Don't let the stereotypes limit you. Being creative and coming up with effective combinations of your functions is the way to go. And it's fun as well ! Play around and experiment with your brain ! :)
This is what helps me get out of this kind of mindset.

Thanks for the honest perspective. I recently found out that I'm an INFJ and now I'm learning as much as I can about typology. To me it seems like a awesome thing for an INFJ to study systems like MBTI in order to understand themselves and other people. I can see what you mean by the dangers of thinking that certain (potentially unhealthy) behaviors are supposedly okay, and that it should just be accepted because of the supposed nature of your certain personality type. I don't want to get to a point where I think that I should accept an aspect of my personality that doesn't serve me in a positive way, just because of my supposed nature. But I think that it's very rational to use these theories as tools for personal growth rather than simply categorizing people. Studying MBTI has led me to you and many others who I can relate to on a very important level. It's helped me out a lot. I hope you continue making videos!

I think the only purpose of labels such as MBTI is to help one understand what their own strengths and interests are, and use our strengths to be the change you want to see in the world. I've come to realize that I have no desire to climb the corporate ladder or to get rich, but I do need to gain knowledge and resources in order to affect the world for good. MBTI has helped me to understand why I am so different to other people, and validates my purpose to improve the world as a whole.

Hey solo. I completely understand what you went through. We as INFJ's have a tendency to fall very deeply into the things that we get into.
With MBTI it's so tempting to see it and apply it as it's displayed, but I always had to remind myself that it's just a tool that helps us explain the unexplainable.
As you mentioned there are too many variables in us to really get to the ultimate truth. We're simply too dynamic individuals to be categorized so simply.
This is why I think that it's necessary as most of us seem to eventually find out to take this system as a stepping stone on our paths with knowledge and self development.
Thanks for the courage to put up these videos in the help of everyone. If something new comes up then it does, but for now
I hope that you have a great dream (the one that we prefer to refer to as life) and an unique journey

From my understanding MBTI is sort of fluff around a useful system. The functions behind MBTI explain how we process information. We can choose, and manipulate, what information we put into ourselves. How we process information isn't who we are by any means. For myself it gave me an amazing starting point. I quickly noticed problem areas and made changes to the information I was putting into myself. Some of my "issues" I decided I was ok with, a lot I wasn't. Learning how to reprogram my own neural networks through thought was very behificial.
I feel silly sharing this, felt like I needed to for some reason, so I am lol. I really enjoy your videos. I'm sort of happy for you that you're stepping away, it means your growing, good for you.

So thank you once again for sharing with us!

When I had lower self esteem often I felt like others didn't get me but it was also I who didn't get them, MBTI helped me to appreciate the positive aspects of myself and helped me feel less alone as it was the very best description of how others are different.
In my experience, anxiety, depression, lack of confidence and self-esteem are all improvable and "fixable" and yet I still type as an INFJ so I don't think they are an intrinsic part of the type, although maybe a tendency towards them is. I don't know if that's the same for enneagram as I just haven't studied it.
I agree that I read others better than they read me but it used to be much worse when I was insecure - sometimes people don't get you just because you don't express yourself, it's true that only INFJs or an extremely close friend truly know what my inner world looks like but when I'm outgoing and confident others can still "get" me and I feel like they see the real me. If you just think of MBTI as descriptions then I don't think it hinders our ability to change. I used to think becoming a more confident/extraverted person would change who I was - instead it just allowed who I was to be expressed to the world.
You said: "I always wanted to feel like something external resonated with me, something in the world defined me" - that's exactly what your videos do for me, so thank you, merry christmas & happy new year! :)

MBTI, or the INFJ label is only useful for me in times of 'need', when I'm at rock bottom and need to regain my bearings. There's something holding me back from trying and understand every facet of it, perhaps I fear that it will 'take over' in some way or make me 'rigid'.
Maybe that is because I found trough my unorthodox career path that, even though other ppl are very often tremendously draining, they provide me with the chance to change myself, see new viewpoints. (Then quickly race home, and process them haha) That, and also true traveling I found that my adaptability to ppl is almost beyond limits, a true gift from being INFJ. Diving to deep in MBTI might change that I fear. Anyway, hope this makes sense. Good to have a vid of your ramblings again ;)

Solohouette, even if mbti is correct on some things (and many will disagree it is anything more than fortune telling cookies), it is at best just predisposition of what you or anybody might become or achieve. But what you end up being in the end it is up to you. But now I can see sadness in you, and if anyhow possible try getting a bit more sun into your room, and into your life. I have enjoyed watching your videos, and if you ever make more, I will be glad to see them! Damn the torpedoes!

Please keep sharing your doubts. I can relate. MBTI changed a lot of my thinking habits. I'm trying for it to not intrude my everyday life right now. I think I got lost in it for some time too. I'm trying to live my days by being aware of myself and getting real feedback from people whether it's a shitty opinion or a good observation. I don't know. I guess we need to do more real stuff in the real world without thinking too much.

You're absolutely right! I think we use all cognitive functions but on different levels. But our major functions define us as INFJ. I can feel what you're experiencing. Same here. If you see yourself same as most of the people and not unique, that's fine. But do not take INFJ as a Label or Title. That's our Major FUNCTION. If you take it as a function you can use it your advantage and not care about stereotypes. MBTI is just a guide to let us know that we are not weird. It's just a reminder to keep us sane but after a certain limit that becomes a toxic restraint. We must know when to move away from these terms. What happened on your chin?

Great video. I've thought the same thing. I tend to go back and forth with my infatuation with MBTI because of this. There is so much more to a person than 4 letters. But at the same time those 4 letters make so much sense. A constant struggle for me.

Dude... we can't help but fall in love (infatuation) with enneagram and MBTI. It's so fascinating and interesting. But at the end of the day, they are just man-made systems that help us identify our personalities. Nothing more. Maybe there will be a new cool personality theory system that gets created a 100 years from now and blows enneagram and MBTI out of the water. And then maybe an even better one 500 years from now. Humans are complex, dynamic and beautiful. Give yourself a break for becoming an enthusiast.

If you could only swap out that F for a T you wouldn't care if other people understood you. :-) In my INTJ Child video I described my life as a kid and it was painful being misunderstood. However, I reached a point on my own before I ever learned about MBTI where I came to like who I am, and I ceased to care about those who wouldn't accept me as I am. I am easy to understand really. I am direct and happy to tell you if you care to know. It is not my responsibility to save the world or the people in it. First off it is beyond my capabilities. Second of all the world and the people in it don't want to be saved. So, my not trying, is a win-win situation. And I'm not going to waste any time worrying about the people who are happy to continue on being, well to put it kindly, uninformed, and unthinking.
Bill Murray gave some great advice to his ex girlfriend in the movie Scrooged, when he said, "Scrape 'em off." You can spend your life running on that hamster wheel of trying to understand people who don't want to be understood, and trying to get people who don't want to understand you, to do so. Where does the hamster end up? Right where he started.
The only troubling part of this is that you are stuck with that F. I don't know how you can change it, but you can be sure that people out there are not going to change, and what you have seen in the past from them, is what you are going to see from them in the future. At least that is what my introverted intuition is telling me. Good luck.

I think a good insight concerning bettering yourself can be borrowed from astrology. In astrology the planets are considered "gods", to which we are bound from birth and which rule over our ultimate (and penultimate) fates. We are construed to be total subjects to the planet's influences, like ships are subject to the waves of the ocean. However, we can overcome their external influences by becoming in control of our internal reactions and responses. By that we would know rest even in the gravest of storms. This is of course easier said than done, but we can at least work to diminish the severity of these external influences on our internal selves. I myself have found heart rate variability training to be a great help in reducing my stress levels and in becoming a calmer and 'less subjected' person. And I have no doubt that the future will bring many more such biofeedback techniques to help deal with all sorts of repulsive, impulsive and compulsive responses. So, as concerns personality typing systems such as MBTI, I think they have great value in helping one achieve a sense of personal identity, but they are not the cure to ailments of the soul, for which indeed WORK has to be done.

Hi Amelia, re-reread Levigna1983. I'm older than her again and my experience is about the same about working through and confining the down side to the inituitive/ sensitive attribute. It's the usual double edge sword, it helps you understand others better and help them when needed. Most aren't at that sensitivity level so yes, that means a feeling of not being understood and lonely. I'm an INFJ and lived a whole life almost and it's OK, in fact better. I'd rather be sensitive and be able to serve others than not intuitive and unaware of others feelings. We're a minority but you're not alone. Like Levigne1983 we not only get through it, we do eventually get who we are after a while and are grateful for the attributes that come from being unusual and 'feeling' in that intense way. Not outwardly demonstrative but deeply and with the full colours of an emotion. I can recall a memory going back decades in emotional waves that others remember only as a fact. You seem a giving sensitive person, that's no mean feat. Appreciate yourself through the truthful eyes of those who touch your heart in that unexplainable way. They do know you and love you for your honesty and care. You have many achievements ahead of you and they will be the deep lasting kind. Think of your life as a mystical nebula that will take form over time to stars and moons and planets, and then settle into an amazing rhythm of a galaxy. I 'feel' you're a nice person, I am sometimes almost an INTJ but I don't seek to explain that magical 'just know' type feeling that I get from watching your video. It is who we are, mind loops and antennae like sensitivity. Know it, feel it and live it. That once in a while soul to soul contact we get when we meet a kindred spirit is hard to live without so don't lose sight of the good things about being an INFJ.
    Take care, hope this helps

TOTALLY understand wondering where you would have been had you not found MBTI.
i was having "issues" (thought i had Asperger or schizoid personality disorder).
so i went to a therapist who suggested taking the test.
she did ask me: "why do you want a personality disorder".
told her i didn't "want" one...but i knew something was wrong, and if i could find out what the problem was, i knew i could research and find coping strategies.
i was SHOCKED that i could print off 3-4 pages that described me better than my family could (intp 2w3). now knowing my inherent traits, i am able to discover strategies to work around the ones that cause me stress.
and yes, please continue to put your thoughts out there. i really enjoy the non-scripted unedited format...watching your thoughts coalesce and take form.

You say that, not asserting yourself (Fe), is a part of your nature and because of that you are less inclined to change that. I would like to point out that (at least as I've come to understand it) the different functions describe preferences, not exclusive abilities. The preference may be very strong though, even so that it may be experienced as an exclusive ability. Still it is not your only choise of how to act even if it seems that way. It will feel awkward to go against your functions but it will develop you as a person and your range of possible actions. Exposing yourself to your inferior functions in a way similar to exposure treatment used to treat phobias (it's not as easy as just "doing it" and it'll go away, so you should read up on the method if you want to test it out) should help you become more assertive (for example).
I think you bring up important issues and I enjoy your ideas and your videos. Thanks for sharing them with us!

My wife suffers from a form of bipolar disorder, where she has some tremendous mood swings. Watching this video reminded me of the way she gets on a "down day." The contrast between the first of your videos I saw, and this one is quite striking. You are inside and it is December. Maybe that is all it is. (My INFP cousin really goes into a downswing in the winter. The darkness depresses her.) If you are truly into feeling that sad about MBTI on a regular basis, you might consider seeking some help. It is a tool and as with all tools, it can be used constructively or destructively. It should provide understanding to add some input into your decisions on what makes sense in your choices for the future. But you have to be the final decider, not MBTI. If you feel out of control seek help. Don't try and do it on your own if you feel overwhelmed. That can be a very dark path to walk. Maybe it is just body chemistry which can be corrected. You said you were trying meditation. Did you continue that? Has it aided in building your inner peace?
Above all don't give up the ship. You clearly have a good and caring heart. You have a very active mind. If you can focus it clearly on this problem, and the tools that are out there to help you, you can get that smile back on your face. It is beautiful and it deserves to be out there for the world to see. Even more so, the inner person who controls that smile is a good one, and deserves to feel like smiling. I know this video is old and who knows what has gone on since you put it up? But I worry, because like I said, my wife goes through down times and I am very sensitive to that.

oh man, this is so relatable (as you know ;)) - In the beginning of the year I was so against developing my Te because it was with such a heavy conviction that I believed I would never be able to "get" it straight away, and knowing even more with MBTI that it's just not a function that's developed for me, I made it into an excuse whenever people want to make me do Te.. I even used it as an excuse to not be good at most things in my job (architect firm). But now as I am meeting more INFJ's and interacting with them in real life; I find INFJ's to be the most contradicting/contrary to/varied of all the MBTI types.. in the sense that we really have the power to manifest our inner life (Ni- and can be anything really) into something that can be real. Some INFJ's i've met are so into politics, mathematics, architecture.. and finding that out really makes me rethink that the real reason I didn't want to develop my Te was because it was not aligned with my inner world.. The real world and how it works was a threat to my inner world. (sorry for the nonsensical rant- i'm only halfway through the video but had to stop to type!)

Make a video about some other system like the big 5. That's scientific af. Do more drawings they're great. mbti is a useful low resolution quick approximation tool on how to interact with someone - the moment it stops working in the conversation I drop it and modify my model of that person much more in different ways outside it. You haven't wasted anything doing this analysis and the border between mental illness and personality is very clear - DSMV. You looked very happy in some of the earlier videos so it's clear you were doing something right. Maybe modify that a bit and do the same. Current there are many videoa by prof Jordan Peterson who is scientifically validating the 10 aspects of the big 5. You're videos are great! :)

Please don't get disheartened about MBTI . I understand that sometimes we can get overloaded and feel hindered by our MBTI because although they define our major functions very accurately, they do not serve as our guidelines as to how we must act. Human potential far surpasses Psychology or any measurable knowledge. That's the whole point of being RARE 1% of the human population. That we do not follow these prescribed guidelines. So if INFJ is becoming a label, remove it. Treat INFJ as just a reminder that you function differently and are part of NATURE, and not as weird as other unaware people might treat us. I just have a feeling, that when we mention our MBTI type to unaware people, they may not be interested or treat it as our ego, or worse make fun of us or bash us with it. Maybe this is happening to you. Avoid revealing your dominant functions to the world, share with only trusted and only when necessary. Don't endorse. But this can serve an outlet. Our RARE type is not for dominance but for serving humanity.

You have no idea how much this silence improved in a new form called " Jungian Analytical Psychology " which is developed by a guy named C.S. Joseph here on TH-cam. MBTI is wrong in many cases when it comes to their test and so incomplete when it comes to their knowledge. The reason why I'm writing this comment after 3 yrs is to show you how you changed my life and put me into the right direction and gave me and others a good experience with your informative and well done videos. If you are reading this and still care about This science , I highly recommend you check him out , you'll be surprised.

But on a more serious note. Just so long as you don't mind my sharing. I've been doing the following:
Abandoning all MBTI related information because I believe it just a classification system to give people basic information and a general introduction to the true building blocks which are cognitive functions. And in my personal life, I seek to understand all functions, regardless of if I have them or not. That way I don't just name and classify things without actively observing them and personalizing that my own functions really mean to me (in terms of understanding). This has been super helpful, because it's less about us (the INFJs) and more about how I personally define and understand each function, and then apply those understandings in my own life. (:
This way I don't just use the act of naming something as an excuse for not understanding it or dealing with it. It's been challenging. But I like it. And after I've come to the understanding in regards to whats happening. I usually self-medicate with a coping mechanism. So yea... Good luck! (:

You possibly have a interesting experience now. Try to talk to people without pressure on You. Feel such pressure as a thing to observe in youself, wich is a way to progres, get stronger. In gerneral the point is to turn actions from expectations to intention - this can be a frutful challegne makeing videos again also as a concious excersise, but this must be one of the main reasons.
Do You know E. Tolle`s "observation" now?

I really admire your self-exploration. However, you seem stuck on the MGPI. I know myself better after several years of studying psychology. Dr John Bowlby and his theories of attachment styles of infants and toddlers for starters. Personality disorders for another helped me figure out an anxiety disorder for another piece of the puzzle. Keep in mind that intuitives are generalists. We prefer to see the big picture and our gift is the challenge off making sense of it all. That's why we make good counsellors and ministers etc. I believe it was Aristotle who said "an unexamined life is not worth living". On a practical level, we monitor others is for safety. An excellent book is called The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker. Self-preservation my dear...

Hi Apologies, I had two ideas in my head when I wrote before. I meant to refer you initially to Amelia Brown's site then ask you to re read Levigne1983's comment. Amelia's worth, particularly 'Some things from an INFJ's perspective.

Well, not scientifically proven....we'll Dario Nardi did prove that he could correlate brain wave patterns with MBTI types. Read his book Neuroscience of personality.

"Scientific Validation" never was really possible with humanistic approaches either in philosophie or psychologie etc.
Perhaps the need of "scientific validation" more emerges out of an impuls of mainstreaming&control. Mostly from people, who d'ont got the feeling for äquibrilation and the perspektive, that real harmony is the feelable but undescribable middel(!) between all that we can express simply because of the dialectic struktur of all adjektives or language as such: Perfect Wether eg seldom becomes a conscious subject, when it's perfect, but matters of the ability to experience via feeling as much as plentys of naturalness, few people can enjoy: Neither sensual too cold nor too warm, simply there & individually different perfect from the subconscius "J" to get legitimate personal impression of divine harmony.
Who want's to define this quality, with which right over whomever? Who wants to disrespect the dignity, which is a humanist Dogma & as that, antagonist of slaving Science & decidedly speaking for the liberation of everybodys dignity between more or less concious "Light" & "shadow". 👍🌞
