- The glory days of Super Rugby was definitely in the early years between 1996 and 2005. Attack rugby was part of every team and even though some teams like the Bulls and the Cats struggled initially, they were always willing to run the ball.
The first decade also delivered some great finals, the best of which was probably the 2004 final between the Brumbies and the Crusaders.
We look back at all 10 Super Rugby finals from 1996 to 2005.

5 Titles in 10 years , running at 50%. Come 2019 10 Titles in 20 years running at 50% still. Without doubt the greatest ever Rugby Club in the world. Congratulations Canterbury you guys are Rugby Legends!!!.

Really loved this era of Super Rugby, brings back so much good memories.... always a Canterbury Crusader fan but loved how Gregan and Larkham played... Larkham was my favourite player!!!
As a Hurricanes fan. The 02 Crusaders and the 03 Blues was one of the best years for those franchises.. Crusaders went undefeated in 02 and Blues losing 1 game in 03
Jr Ryder two great sides indeed. Rupeni Caucaunibuca tearing up defenses is 2003 is still a highlight for me

It was a good reply but every time they closed the gap the Brumbies just kept on coming up with more points to re-establish a safe lead soon after. Great team full of big name talent and a fairytale home final against the big threat red and blacks. 33-14 at half-time man. 33-0 was the opening 20 minute hiding.

Crowd sizes are always full in a final even now. But yeah generally round robin matches back then were pretty packed too

4 times and no win there are typicallt bottlers even in south african domestic cup always loose in finals ....they probably win 35 % of the time in finals and loose 65 percent of the time .....

These were the glory days of super rugby, before the endless expansions and stupid conference and finals system. Look at the crowds back then as well, there was a real passion for it that you don’t see today. Shame how some of the iconic teams of this era. I.e. the Brumbies and Blues have slipped into mediocrity. Some things don’t change though; the Crusaders dominating the competition. Seemed to me in this era as well teams played more carefree rugby which made the games really entertaining. Nowadays you don’t see that kind of high tempo rugby very often. Only in the Kiwi derbies would i say that the quality matches what was served up in this era.

Jovan ....i know it's a bit late but Rugby Union is the greatest game in the world. Rugby League is just Rugby with all the skill and finesse taken out , no where near as much strategy and thinking involved and it shows when you watch a boring League game.
