Why do people even care about 4k i wonder , your priority really should be stable 60fps @1080p after all these poor performance games we had on the Switch .
Cause once you get used to higher resolution, 1080p looks like there’s Vaseline smeared on the screen. I don’t think asking for upscaled 4K 60 is asking too much these days. Personally I couldn’t care less about portability and am getting a bit tired of Nintendo making weak hardware

True. The games that have been released over and over, across multiple consoles, are the very games that make consoles sell. It’s why ninty has re-released the same games for the last 2+ decades. It’s why Sony is doing it now. …until a year or so later you have some aya or gpd handheld emulating switch 2 titles. Happened last time, will happen again. Advancement is rapid pace and doesn’t just pause, and if the steam deck isn’t released for another year or two could easily see it being more powerful. That being said, I’ll personally just buy both, cause I love AC and Mario kart as much as I like my entire steam library.

About 2 years ish, give or take for popular titles, and by year 3 most popular titles are fully playable without major issues or stuff that would be considered game breaking or immersion breaking. Yes Nintendo has taken down the majority, however there are tons of forks and maintainers, myself included, who have helped continue work as independents outside of any official capacity who were never involved officially. The chips used are most likely going to be customized variants of the T234 SoCs on a modern process node, like they did with the steam deck oled, scaling to a 6nm instead of a 7nm process. This isn't new or groundbreaking, as they aren't developing full custom in house like apple is with their M series processors. Will they be good? Yes. Will they be highly advanced? Not really. The current AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series is already able to outperform said theoretical chip atm if said Tegra launches with its Ampere based architecture. Current PC handhelds as the new late 2024/25 variants already play some titles at high or maxed at 1080p, let alone 720p for games that are optimized not even for them. Please don't dig your head so far into the ground. The Switch 2 in itself will be good for one thing, fans like me who want to experience the games that Nintendo makes on its own hardware and want to be able to enjoy with friends. It's the community behind it that makes the console worth buying, not the performance.
Handhelds are actually at a good position these days. There’s the Steam Deck. Though I use an Asus Rog Ally handheld which plays PS5. Though to be fair I only tried the new Dynasty Warriors Origins demo, and Silent Hill 2 remake. So the excuse that “handhelds are just not there yet”, is false. But hey, it’s Nintendo… of course we shouldn’t expect anything too high and fly, since most of their exclusives are more cartoony or not too graphically intense.
Not there at a reasonable price and battery life. ROG AUSU can be close to $800 and I'm assuming the battery life on a AAA game would not be great. That's what he meant by "not there yet..."
@ I mean where I am, I got my Asus handheld for £500 new. And the PS5 my step dad bought new is like £475 with disc drive. Given the choice since the Asus is literally a PC but in handheld size, I feel it’s still I chose better. But, the battery life I 100% agree on. 2 hours max is still bad whether it’s Switch or Asus or Steam Deck.
I love my PS5, but let’s be real--graphics haven’t improved drastically enough to really for average gamers compared to past gens. Some of the PS4 games look better and run better than some bloated budget modern games. The Switch 2 with even PS4 graphics with their IP’s will be game changing.
Just a wild guess: The colored buttons somehow tie into the mention of Nintendo - Xbox collaboration that was mentioned a year ago or so. Maybe some cross platform games between the two and so on.

Lots of people tried throwing mud at the Switch for being underpowered, and none of that hate stopped it from being the most successful console, whether you’re basing that on game quantity/quality or on sales/profit.
Nintendo should have a base model and a “pro” model One for core Nintendo audience and then one to compete with those higher end handhelds. If rumors are true of Sony making a handheld Im sure they are going to go for something stronger than whatever Nintendo puts out.

The more nano meter the less efficient it is. If your running track is 100 meters long it will take you LONGER to get to the finish line than if your running track is 50 meters. Same with nanometers
Ultimately I'm just gonna wait and see what it can actually do before judging the power, but I think people are freaking out about the potential power so much is because it dictates the support of the console in the future. We're all assuming that 3rd party support of the Switch 2 will be great, and in the first year, it likely will be. And yes, we're not expecting the Switch 2 to keep up with the PS5 (for the reasons of it being a handheld, and that Nintendo hasn't targeted peak processing power in a long time). However, the further behind it is, the sooner we'll loose 3rd party support. If the Switch 2 is to last as long as the Switch 1, it will be the primary Nintendo console into 2034. I'd love to still have 3rd party support until that time, but if the Switch 2 can't run the types of games we'll have in the 2030's, the system will be left in the dust. Hopefully it's beefy enough and has a large enough install base that devs still want to port their games to it.
It likely will. If anything the gap will be smaller than before and that's before taking into account dlss. Just look at the spec of what used to be 4gb of ram to 8 which is now 12 to 16. The competitors doubled while Nintendo tripled. The speed also is way more favorable now also. I know you might say its still behind but that ratio is far smaller. Also a number of specs are above a series S.

The Z1 Extreme APU used in ROG Ally and other Switch like devices use the Radeon 780M as the GPU which is more performant than the PS4 Pro, the Nintendo switch will use a slightly worse GPU than the ROG Ally so saying its as powerful as a PS4 Pro is not out of the question. The technology has existed.
also the Rog ally has a lot of different graphic chipsets and you are only right if you are talking about it's absolute lowest one. Which still costs many hundreds more than the switch 2 will

Let’s be realistic, 400-450$ is definitely not the affordable price to the average consumer in this time of age. Unless inflation comes down this year, I think that’s pretty expensive. Especially for technology as good as ps4 pro
Well what does "power" even mean? CPU and GPU compute power aren't the only thing that affects what a game looks like. Hardware features and software optimisations can produce better graphics on a system with less GPU/CPU power.

Switch 2’s target will probably be 900p @60fps… Reason: hybrid console with handheld having no need for 1080p/4K. Price point is also an issue bc Nintendo’s aim is for individuals/families to purchase multiple consoles just like the switch

How does nanometers affect the console
The more nano meter the less efficient it is. If your running track is 100 meters long it will take you LONGER to get to the finish line than if your running track is 50 meters.
Same with nanometers
The smaller chips are more efficient then the bigger ones. Meaning you can get more performance at less wattage then a bigger nanometer chip.

Ultimately I'm just gonna wait and see what it can actually do before judging the power, but I think people are freaking out about the potential power so much is because it dictates the support of the console in the future. We're all assuming that 3rd party support of the Switch 2 will be great, and in the first year, it likely will be. And yes, we're not expecting the Switch 2 to keep up with the PS5 (for the reasons of it being a handheld, and that Nintendo hasn't targeted peak processing power in a long time). However, the further behind it is, the sooner we'll loose 3rd party support. If the Switch 2 is to last as long as the Switch 1, it will be the primary Nintendo console into 2034. I'd love to still have 3rd party support until that time, but if the Switch 2 can't run the types of games we'll have in the 2030's, the system will be left in the dust. Hopefully it's beefy enough and has a large enough install base that devs still want to port their games to it.

It likely will. If anything the gap will be smaller than before and that's before taking into account dlss. Just look at the spec of what used to be 4gb of ram to 8 which is now 12 to 16. The competitors doubled while Nintendo tripled. The speed also is way more favorable now also. I know you might say its still behind but that ratio is far smaller.

It’s possible in dock mode
The Z1 Extreme APU used in ROG Ally and other Switch like devices use the Radeon 780M as the GPU which is more performant than the PS4 Pro, the Nintendo switch will use a slightly worse GPU than the ROG Ally so saying its as powerful as a PS4 Pro is not out of the question. The technology has existed.

The way the switch works is completely different from the Xbox or playstation.
DLSS is damn near a cheat. They can run things at a really low resolution yet you won't know it.

Well what does "power" even mean? CPU and GPU compute power aren't the only thing that affects what a game looks like.
Hardware features and software optimisations can produce better graphics on a system with less GPU/CPU power.

Nintendo have been using essentially the same specs for over twelve years, based on hardware capabilities that have existed for almost 20 years. The Switch 2 could have a tiny upgrade and first-party titles will still find ways to make a mountain of difference.
400 to 450 seems a little too much on the high side but maybe the first party games shown will change my mind.

Botw at switch 1 graphics runs at 4k on switch 2. It runs at 900p30 on switch 1. And the switch 2 is powerful enough to handle 5 times that resolution

It won’t be the best ever released handheld system. If they wanted to compete it would have at least put Steam deck graphics into the system with an OLED. Nintendo is too comfortable with having sub par graphics on their systems and that is what is making us hate them. They need to go back to the “Nintendo Power” days!
