I had a similar reaction when they added the heavy taunt "Boiling Point". I screamed "OH MY GOD DID THEY REALLY ADD THAT AS A TAUNT!" The stupid thing is, the table tantrum and boiling point taunt are literally the same fucking thing just different pots on the table.
Valve is too busy adding banana hats, rather than fixing their broken-ass game. Seriously, people like Delfy are STILL FINDING GAME BREAKING BUGS AND GLITCHES!!!! I think by 9 years of developement, they meant designing great hats, then jerking off all over it.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but Pyro has the most fitting cosmetics in terms of his personality I think. He might have a hat or two that’s pretty weird, but his cosmetics mostly take the cutesy or intimidating route. I feel like this both fits how he actually is and how he looks.
@@aussieseal9979 how are we gonna talk about pyro then? With the name? That won't be good, and you can't say "it/them" since there's a difference between "no gender" and "non binary" TL;DR:peeps should call Pyro whatever they want.

The thing is, as memey as the people of the internet are, most TF2 players don't dress like an absolute clown. Most players are trying to create an outfit that expresses them and they often do a pretty good job. The shittyest cosmetics largely aren't used at all. That still leaves pleanty of room to be mad at valve for shoveling trash into the game, but if the overwhelming majority of players just don't use ugly, stupid, or otherwise egregious items, then the artsyle of the game isn't getting dragged down nearly as much as you make it seem.
Yeah, I don't wear hats that I don't like, even if people say "oH, wELL tHaT's a HiGh TiEr hAt," I couldn't care less. For example, let's say there was this one really famous Scout main youtuber that wore the bacteria blocker, all by itself. Sounds pretty strange, right? Well, people would still wear it, regardless of how it looked, they just want people to think its that one youtuber. I just like to choose what I think looks good for me. Not that anybody cares or anything, but my favorite scout loadout (because I think it looks dope) is Greased lightning, summer shades, and dead of night. I mean it's ok if you don't like these cosmetics but I think they fit perfectly together. (sorry to any bacteria blocker fans, I just think it looks weird. UNLESS you're purposefully going for a meme, then its funny.)
I agree but I don't agree with the "You make it seem like it's that bad", the point is that the Valve team ( if it isn't actually an automated system ran by a bot anyway) is acting really stupid by even picking those items, or breaking up good sets, or literally not even caring what goes through, not even considering to add certain items because they keep picking items based off of some other reason or item creator, the items are very unbalanced too which means only one certain class keeps getting more stuff (More money), it almost feels like an insult everytime they do it, and they even DO THAT WITH MAPS. That just sucks. But yes, people generally pick out good cosmetics, but it's such a waste of money and space to have that other trash even be in a case. Ahem, the Smissmas 2021 case was a huge success, right?
I predicted this would happen the day the community-made weapons came out, and quit the game in protest that very day. They threw down the drain everything they had been saying of how they had to carefully balance each weapon out (and that's why updates took so long). Today's TF2 is but an empty husk of what it once was.
That changes nothing, Pink. When the Jarate update came out for the Sniper, people were complaining about how each class update took excessively long to come out, and Valve replied that's because they balanced the stats for each weapon very carefully and that took a lot of time. You're gonna tell me they used to take months to balance a couple weapons before, but then magically became capable to balance dozens of weapons with the same care in a much shorter timespan?
TF2 Gameplay = Just fun in gameplay, making hats and cosmetics non-sense TF2 Cinematics = The actual story, just some cosmetics that appear in the cinematics are actually "canon"
I must correct you on the in-game timeline: *The Robot War started in 1972, not 1971, as 1972 is canonically the year in which Gray Mann murdered his brothers Redmond and Blutarch.* That date is supported by SEVERAL comics, including the dates given for Gray Mann's birth in 1822 and his own words that it's 150 years later when he murders his brothers, and the TF2 Update comic. The events of post-Robot War/post-retirement of the mercs must take place in at least 1973. The 1972 date on the Teufort police jail boards for Scout and Spy is either flat wrong due to a script error by the writers, or a hint that the brain-addled citizens of Teufort no longer know which year they are in. Unfortunately some idiots at the TF2 Wiki started retroactively back-dating all other timeline dates from that one erroneous date and ignored all discussion and proof to the contrary, deleting all attempts to correct the timeline.
3:43 Well, technically, since Scout is from Boston and the age of consent in Massachusetts is 16, he might be legally alright in that regard, unless he went for the freshmen (or perhaps the sophomores as well, depending on what kind of school it is).
Because of the fact that it was released only a year ago, in comparison with TF2. And it already has all this cosmetic bullshit thing going on. I doubt it will last long, not for ten years for sure. The game is most certainly not that fun because of its toxic community. Even in freaking arcade I frequently meet people who whine when they see a Hanzo or Widow in their team or overall complain about their team being bad. Nobody's playing for fun, they play to earn lootboxes or SR (on custom arcade servers the situation is a bit better though). In TF2 you could, for instance, snipe each other on the 2fort balcony for ages and nobody would tell you to change the class or else they would leave.
The topic of this video has unfortunately aged too well. All the new cosmetics getting put in look awful and have no place in the art style. Video is great though and it still matches tf2s current cosmetic and warpaint market
I agree with you on disliking Valve's sudden decision to make tons of hats and cosmetic items (older items and new ones) all-class, and bemourning the lack of funny item descriptions caused by Valve adopting the stupid CS:GO cases with tiered "grades" design instead of the TF2 crates of old with their more "democratic" (presumably?) even drop chance for each hat. And 4:51 min is a damn shame: The long-sleeved jacked for the Heavy is fitted so that it and the hood belong together. I coudl live without the trousers if I had to, but the jacket not being put in is a damn shame, esp in light of the Heavy always getting way fewer items than Scout, Pyro, Engineer or Soldier. Some of the blame lies in the workshop having fewer Heavy items in general, but there are still many good ones. Just look at how long it took them to FINALLY give the Heavy a Hawaiian shirt... and it wasn't even the best one that was in the Workshop.
You know, I never really noticed the odd style switch that TF2 underwent, even when I was playing it. It's weird how over the top the cosmetics got even by the Meet the Pyro update, plus cases seem just as... infuriating as ever. Is this really how bad items have gotten in recent years? Anyway, this is a fun video! Really calm and humorous discussion about the subject, and the subtle "It's Not Unusual" at 5:07 was great. This video, even 6 years later, is still spot-on about the current state of cosmetics. I dunno how anyone can look at the absolute garbage that's been pumped into the game over the past several years and think that valve gives a damn about it
Ofc a style can evolve, as it should, but how are you going to defend a banana? Some of the new cosmetics look nice, a step forward in the evolution, but how do you defend 6:57?
In my opinion, for 6:57 we have to define ''stupid''. I will concede that players do wear cosmetics that deviate from the norm however, I personally feel that cosmetics really fit the cartoon comic-book style TF2 had going for it. TF2 is a zany, crazy, not-so-serious game to me. The absurd stuff in TF2 makes it so different from other games haha. I guess you could say stupid for one person is entertaining for another. As for the Potassium Bonnett , If you look at www.teamfortress.com/tf03_cold_day_in_hell/#f=20 , the Halloweiner would be cannon to TF2 haha(although it's Halloween only). Sure some might think it kills the style but it's amazing to me that players can equip something from the comic they just seen. Of course the Potassium Bonnett it not part of the cannon and is player created, but I feel that it still kinda fits. If a hotdog is cannon, the banana is not too far off haha. I have played TF2 for 7 years. Back then we did not have trading and only a few hats. I have watched people like Shibby2142, Jerma985 , STAR_ , ikonakona , LazyPurple, FUNKe and more play TF2. It's heartwarming to see FUNKe make so many valid points with passion, keep it up!
FUNKe!! I have come from the future to tell you I really appreciate this video. I heard someone was trying to flame you on twitter or something but I think you made great points here.
Love the points made and you're pretty accurate on all things reflecting crates. However for me and a lot of people the odd comical gimicky gauty cosmetics like the banana and the increasingly wackier unsuals and rarities only make me want to open crates more and these cosmetics, especially recent ones that aren't blue, have been a drawing back point into the game multiple times. Cheers.
To be honest, I'm less worried about things fitting time period wise, just more on "How would [blank] look if it was in this game and normalized in it's universe?" To a point though, because I'd fucking vomit if I saw an allclass taunt where a merc vapes while riding a hoverboard and checking how many bitcoins he had via some smartphone (Don't get any ideas.) It's more "Is the saturation right/Is it porportioned enough/Does the color palette fit?" That sorta deal. I sorta see the problem occuring commonly on the newer unusuals and (some of) the community made cosmetics. Not to say I avoid them like the plague, because I still see them as usable, it's just a tad awkward. But hey, that's what mat_phong 0 is for. (if you're not overly autistic with original color consistancies of the source materials like I am.)
I get it why execution is important but execution involves that maybe that outfit or hat doesn't fit that character, It doesn't exactly need to be of that "time period" as we know that some of the stuff in TF2 lore about technology are a bit more advanced because of Australium and Australia overall. In Tf2's case, that is very important as they've established a certain type for each character, also earlier cosmetics that represent the individual well and have better stories. If I was a professional comic creator, game creator, writer, film director, I wouldn't want that shit to happen and I don't understand why someone wouldn't care. It's just a mess and it shows that the art directors are really off track for some reason. Creating a charming character or atmosphere is something they need to care about, it brings people to the game and to stay.
man. that video name makes even more sense nowadays with workshop creators saying that they dont even care about if their cosmetic covers a large part of the character and is still paintable to such a degree that you can look like you are on an entirely different team, they only care about stuff that they want to do themselves. they only care about items that they want to use. at this point were not even in the death, were in the point of the artstyle rotting away in its coffin.
I do agree with this video, I just don't like how many people use it as evidence of a big problem when in reality a lot of these things are arbitrary and subjective problems, and people use it that way because the video frames every problem as equally bad
@FUNKe oh my..I never thought a person like you funke would comment here. I get Its not that big of a problem like the aimbot crisis. But it's just sad to see popular cosmetic creators disrespect the tf2 visuals, Desgin, and put no thought into it.
@@kingkoopa64 *this* is why I feel calling these efforts "expression" is unreasonable. Effort could be put in, and thanks to our constant lobbying sometimes it is. But if this is going to change we are going to have to be very loud, because VALVE is L A Z Y and will not enforce quality unless we make enough noise to shake the outside perception. When variety streamers that don't play TF2 but like to mention how good it is for clout, start mentioning the lack of quality control *then* we might get someone to hold responsible. Then we can finally stop all the fighting, but for now things will continue to escalate in the usual TF2 community way.

I added everything up and here are the results. If he sold everything he opened, he would get: $50.65/25.15 Keys back at a $74.35/24.85 Key loss. If he kept at least 1 of each item (Strange Priority) then he would get: $19.33/9.6 Keys back at a $105.67/40.4 Key loss. If you want the best bang for your buck, then don't open crates, just buy items directly.
But the items originate from the crates, meaning that if everyone followed this logic, there would be barely any items in circulation making them expensive. Which would cause people to buy crates and sell the items inside causing the price to go down, resulting in the circulation of items we have now. You can't buy the items off the mann co. Store as they don't sell new items through there anymore, you have to open crates.
Well it's a gamble, you can easily make a profit if you get lucky. It's just lottery, you can buy items at market value or you can get the item for the price of a key and the box. Just gotta get lucky
im_sorry_i_forgot_my_username There's definitely not 16 people. It was confirmed like last year that there are only 3-5 people working on TF2 at any given moment. The variation there is probably due to the people that work on TF2 full time with some people who focus on other projects who occasionally come to work on TF2.
I feel like unusual are pretty much 100% trade market pandering. Those effects not only look ugly, but put a nice big target on your head (literally) that says "shoot here for maximum salt". In my experience, only the really good players can afford to wear one because they are actually good enough to fight off the hoard of f2ps who automatically assume that killing them is a grand achievement. That being said, most of the unusual owners I have met in game can't, and tend to carry long term dominations.

What servers are you playing on because everyone does look like a fucking clown lol, like what do you mean?
This was a very well made and edited video but it's a damn shame this game has become unrecognisable.
...aesthetically, at least.
I predicted this would happen the day the community-made weapons came out, and quit the game in protest that very day. They threw down the drain everything they had been saying of how they had to carefully balance each weapon out (and that's why updates took so long).
Today's TF2 is but an empty husk of what it once was.
Unrecognisable? I think that’s a bit far. For a 10 year old game the overall look has stayed the same
That changes nothing, Pink.
I can still recognize a scout even if they are in a horrible lime colour. In fact it’s actually easier.

This actually aged fantastically

Cheers.

"do any of these characters like bananas?"
Yep, this was before Jungle Inferno
Scout would own a hoverboard if he could though and promptly roll it off a cliff
Whatever you say, Heavy's "ushanka" is a pure gold.
man. that video name makes even more sense nowadays with workshop creators saying that they dont even care about if their cosmetic covers a large part of the character and is still paintable to such a degree that you can look like you are on an entirely different team, they only care about stuff that they want to do themselves. they only care about items that they want to use.

If you want the best bang for your buck, then don't open crates, just buy items directly.
Crate opening just plays off of gambling highs in the same way that roulette does.
