    Badd Medicine here and it's The Iron Claw reaction time
    In 1979, Fritz Von Erich, owner of World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW), navigates family dynamics while managing the wrestling business. Kevin, David, Kerry, and Mike, along with Jack Jr., aspire to various pursuits. Kevin's success leads to a significant match against Harley Race, (and let's not forget Ric Flair) while David's charisma impresses their father. The family faces tragedy with David's untimely death and Kerry's accident. Concerned about the "Von Erich curse," Kevin names his son Ross Adkisson. Mike's injury causes further turmoil. Despite ups and downs, Kerry finds success in wrestling but struggles with personal challenges. Tragedy strikes again, leaving the family shattered. Kerry's passing prompts reflection and reconciliation within the family. Despite hardships, the Von Erich legacy endures, with Kevin leading a fulfilling life in Hawaii with his family. The family's achievements are recognized with induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.

      The reason one of the Von Erich Brothers (Chris Von Erich) was not included in the film because it was one more tragedy to handle in watching the film. I already lost my ability to cry due to personal tragedies in my life but I felt my heart was empty when I watched this film and it will be too much for me if that one more tragedy was included in my opinion.

      Exactly. The people who dont seem to like it, are all complaining about the same dang thing, which is the size differences of the actors, in comparison to the real brothers. Once you get into the story line of the movie, you dont even really pay attention to the sizes of the cast. Or I didnt anyway. The people complaining about that, must think a producer can just walk outside his front door, and pick 4 guys out of thousands of dudes, standing out in their front yard, who are identical to the Von Erich's. Ive got news for them. Trying to find 4 guys, who look like the Von Erich's did in the mid 80's, would be like tryin to hunt up a needle in a haystack. Especially trying to find 2 guys, who look like Kerry and Kevin did. Those 2 were jacked! Lol. Then to find guys who look them, who can also act, would be like hunting for a needle in an entire hay field.

      @@eamon4800no doubt, even the women too. My great grandmother passed away a couple years ago and I used to joke she lived so long because evil doesn’t die quickly. The woman had a heart of ice because her parents, especially her father, were hardened, no-nonsense German immigrants that never showed her any affection. My Nana is nearing her 70’s and is just now realizing how emotionally abusive my great grandma was. Her trauma went to my Nana, who passed it on to my mom, which in turn got handed down to me. My aunts, fortunately, did NOT continue the cycle, and I’ve been trying to break it myself as well but it is difficult when it’s so deeply engrained in your family tree.

    1:14:11 - They didn’t include Chris due to time constraints. They did exactly what Quinn said, fused the two brothers together. This was a VERY difficult decision for the director to make, but he got permission from Kevin. He understood that his story was not only dark, and complicated, but very long. Chris is actually the Brother who he spoke to the day he died, and then found. They also left the fact that David VonErich’s wife and young daughter had died. Again, too much sadness and it was around a character that the film was not focusing on. This is not the story of The VonErich family, it is the story of Kevin and how he made it through. I also agree about Ric Flair, I wonder why they didn’t use the ACTUAL footage of Ric. The scene was 95% the promo, and the other 5% while it was in the ring, was NEVER going to look like him- regardless of who they cast. I would’ve used the actual footage for him. Oh, and Lance VonErich isn’t a brother, he’s their cousin. When the footage hit the cutting room floor, how much of a cousin can you keep if you are eliminating a brother? It became a difficult balancing act. I think he did well. My guess is that there won’t be any extended or directors editions. It isn’t a biopic, but they correctly displayed a lot of accurate heartbreak in Kevin’s life. I think any edit to this afterwards would not be the most intelligent thing to do. It would be like releasing an extended version of The Impossible. It just won’t happen.

    • @TheDemonCaine

      I feel like it's still weird to omit him. It's just strange. If they did a movie loosely based on what happened but had different characters with different names, that would make more sense. I understand that disrespect wasn't the intent, but it still comes off that way a little. I get it would have made it even more sad, but it's not like this is a story mean to bring you overwhelming joy.

    • @publiusventidiusbassus1232
      @publiusventidiusbassus1232 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Omitting Chris was just unjustifiable considering the main topic is celebrating the life of the Von Erich brothers. I fail to see what "time constraints" they had. The Iron Claw is barely 10 minutes longer than the last Wonka film, it isn't some 4 hr epic with a ton of exposition. They easily could've intertwined Chris to the script and the movie would've been barely longer.

    • @JukkaliMx
      @JukkaliMx หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@publiusventidiusbassus1232 The director has talked about how the Chris plot being in or out was basically the difference between the movie being made or not. As a person who didn't know their story, from a narrative standpoint, I can see what the issue was: you'd have another thread of story to follow, for a brother that also used a gun to take his own life.
      To me, the point of the movie wasn't celebrating the life of the Von Erichs, but to explore the family struggle. There's only so much tragedy you can fit into a 2 hour movie before people start throwing around the term "tragedy porn". My guess is the studio didn't want to go in that direction. Not the decision I would have made, personally, but I can see why it happened, when you look at it as a product that's designed to put butts in seats.

    In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, “Iron Claw” filmmaker Sean Durkin explained why he decided not to include the youngest Von Erich, who also wrestled but struggled to match his brothers’ success due to his asthma and brittle bone condition. He died by suicide in 1991 at age 21.
    There was a repetition to it, and it was one more tragedy that the film couldn’t really withstand,” Durkin said of a version that included all the brothers. “I honestly don’t know if it would have gotten made.”

    Kerry missing out on the Olympics hit Fritz really hard as he too missed out on going to the Olympics as a discus thrower when he was younger. According to Kevin if Fritz had been able to go his best throw would've been long enough to win a gold medal. The reason that Fritz couldn't go was that he could not afford to pay for his own travel and the AAU wouldn't pay for it because Fritz had gotten married.
    When in high school Fritz had set the Texas state high school record in the discus, it stood until Kerry broke it.

      @@owengraziano7288 thank you so much I have ppl tell me a lot I'm strong but I don't see it I'm trying to. I lost my dad to cancer 4 almost 5 years ago and then my best friend to suicide right before my sister was murdered. My mom is barely hanging on she is sick and I know she's fixing to go anyday it's so hard. But thank you so much for your comment and I am so sorry for your loss losing someone no matter if they're blood or not if you're close it's pain that you never get over!! But here's a hug from me to you 🫂💙🌻

    This movie makes me want to hold my little sister and never let her go. Our father is a piece of work who got around, so we didn’t meet until we were in our 20’s, but we immediately connected and it was truly like finding a missing piece in life. I always wanted to be a big sister growing up, and I’m lucky enough to have a second chance to do it.

    Sportatorium was actually torn down years ago, but that is how it looked. The only thing that was wrong was the city of Dallas skyline right behind it. Sportatorium actually faced the city. Still drive past where it was every day, brings back a lot of memories.

    I wish my Great-Nephew could have watched this and hear your words Mr. The Oak. He shot himself early this week and was buried two days ago.
    I’m the youngest of six and every Friday night we I would have to sit in front of the tv and watch the fights at the Sportatorium, in hopes that I would see my momma. She loved wrestling with a passion and she loved the Von Erich’s. I always like Chief Wahoo McDaniel, but I didn’t much like being alone in the house before I was in first grade being baby sat by the tv. Then the would come home drunk having fun that turns into fights. Momma loved Fritz and she tried to raise us like he did his boys. She was extremely strict. (I got six whoopings in one day with a razor strap, a switch, a belt like a bull whip…) I used to hide behind the stove in the kitchen and fall asleep or in an abandoned ice box, sometimes in the trunk of an old car they had in the back, so she couldn’t find me. And then, to me, the Von Erich’s slowly just disappeared and I didn’t know why. I thought they were losing so much they quit.
    These are my memories this movie brought me. I’m 61 now, but I still have those deep memories that will probably the last things I remember as I’m passing on.
    I loved Maura Tierney in this movie. She has always been a strong actress and I she gets better roles. She’s just still to tied to the tv show ER.

    The actor who played ric flair actually defends his portrayal and talk about how he approached the role in an interview/article. “Eisenberg explained how he approached the role, noting that he never intended for his portrayal to be an impersonation. He said that he felt there was enough really great Flair impersonations in circulation and didn't feel mimicry would fit the film.” “He stressed that it should be considered that he wasn't attempting to impersonate Flair, rather than craft a dramatized version of a historical character, and he feels that he did what he felt best served the film and best honored Ric Flair.” I did not include quotes of what he said though and just included what the journalist/interviewer wrote

    Damn, I waited to see this movie with you guys, I was a big wrestling fan in my youth but I wasn't a hardcore fan, it was pretty much WWE in the 2000's and 2010's so I'm very ignorant to the wrestling world. Of course I didn't know about the Von Erich's and this film was deep.
    Right in the end with "I used to be a brother" I couldn't hold it and broke, I have 4 brothers and 4 cousins that raised me and always saw as brothers, so that line hit hard because I fear of loosing them and be left alone.

He's a strong person.

    Kevin was *not* involved with the making of this movie. They had some of the family on set, but not Kevin. They didn't have him on the set, and they didn't ask for his input on the script at all. Which he said in an interview that he was nervous about, because he wasn't sure where the filmmakers were going to get the information from, and what stories were they going to go with. Especially when it came to his dad.
    Sure, enough after he saw the movie the first time Kevin said that the one thing, he didn't like was how the movie depicted his father. He calls Fritz a "decent and honorable man," and he's never (or at least now) blamed his father for the deaths of any of his brothers. He blames accidents, illness and substance abuse, especially in the deaths of the brothers that took their own lives.

    went to see this movie with my brother while it was out in theatres thinking it would be a fun wrestling movie and boy oh boy.. we had just lost our dad suddenly a few months prior and it hit way too close to home - but in a way that allowed us to be at peace too given the bittersweet final scene, not that it helped calm the flood of tears though lmao.
    i knew oak has his bodybuilding thing going (btw congrats on meeting arnold schwarzenegger!!) but had no idea the rest of you guys were pro wrestlers. it’s great from a reaction sense to see how the movie is taken from the 3 that know the story in comparison to oak experiencing it for the first time. and i got to learn a little more from your comments at the end which i love!

    One of the best dramas ever made, but it is such a heavy film that just showed the love of the brothers and how they truly loved being around each other, it’d a hard film to watch cause it’s so heavy but a great film about many things and things that motivate us to continue to live even though it’ can be hard like it was for Kevin. The film did a good job showing his pain and the perseverance he displayed even when life felt like it never was gonna get better for him

    I love this movie, and i love wrestling, as a woman its really clear to me that this film does a good job on speaking about something that doesnt get brought up alot. Mens mental health. The film does a great job of showing what generations of "suck it up" does to a person. Its a truly tragic piece of wrestling history, and hopefully this film shines a light on what men go through on a daily basis with their mental health trying to uphold an "ideal image of masculinity". ❤

    It was such a beautiful thing to see the tight bond these brothers had and that is what also made it so heartbreaking. I didn't know the story but I come from a big family (8 siblings total) and we had always been extremely close. Big holidays big birthdays big weekends and we have lost that along the way in recent years. Kevin reminded me of my baby brother (ironically named Keven) and that made me super emotional at the end.

    In late December 2001 a fire started inside the building. The flames quickly spread and caused major damage to the arena's upstairs offices. The fire proved to be the coup de grâce for the Sportatorium, its long-rumored demolition finally taking place in the spring of 2003. Before its implosion, Kevin Von Erich took off a bench-seat and a few items from the Sportatorium as souvenirs. Kevin took one final tour of the historic arena, which was featured in its famed DVD documentary Heroes of World Class, released in 2006. Exactly 10 years after the death of Kerry Von Erich, February 18, 2003.
