    Hello folks!
Well it’s that time of the year again where I whip up a trifle! This is such a tradition all over the UK at Christmas…and this version is so easy to make! You can go all out and make your jelly and custard from scratch, but I’m guessing you’ll have so much to do on Christmas Day that you’ll want to cut a few corners if you can :) AND it’s just as delicious!
Everything I used will be listed below,
    -Cheryl x
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________
    What I used -
2 x Packs of Rowtrees Jelly - 1 Raspberry and 1 Strawberry (use jelly crystals if you prefer)
1.5 Pints (28 oz) Boiling water
    1 Drained can of strawberries
4 Trifle Sponges or 4 pieces of Madeira cake
3 x Tablespoons Birds custard powder
    2 x Tablespoons White sugar
1.5 Pints (28 oz) Whole Milk
150g (5.2 oz) White Chocolate Buttons
4 Trifle sponges or 4 pieces of Madeira cake
1 Tablespoon Strawberry or Raspberry jam
2 packets of Dream Topping (use double/heavy cream if you don’t have dream topping)
    300ml (8 oz) Whole Milk
    300ml (10.5 oz) Double Cream
    A Tablespoon chocolate sprinkles
    5 Cocktail cherries
    5 White chocolate stars
    A Tablespoon flaked almonds

Ah this takes me right back to being a wee girl in the 80s with my mums trifle , she had to have a wee tipple in it , usually sherry which I loved 😂. Good old Scottish Christmas. Yours looks Devine ❤

I was going to ask what happened to a bit of the good stuff. My aunt was the trifle maker in our family and I think she used a bit of port in hers. Sad thing is, she passed away and nobody seems to have ever gotten her recipe.

My father always used to make the trifle in our house and he would use slices of raspberry Swiss rolls as the sponge layer usually soaked with sherry then covered with raspberry jelly. Sometimes he would not add a custard layer, but it he did he’d just use a custard powder to make it, then a layer of whipped cream and he would decorate the top by arranging peach slices and fresh raspberries on the top. On some occasions he would make the trifle into a mock Black Forest one using chocolate Swiss rolls soaked with cherry brandy and cherry flavoured jelly, a chocolate cream layer with a thin layer of whipped white cream, decorated with homemade chocolate curls and a few cherries arranged across the top.

This takes me back a long way! Birds custard and Dream Topping ! Do you remember that you could buy a trifle kit with that in and the multi-coloured sprinkles for the top? As a kid I used to feel like a proper chef making one for Sunday dinner - suddenly I’ve got the urge to try and make one, unless you’d consider sending me that one 😃

Where the Cadbury flake!! I keep my mums trifle tradition going in Montreal. Use Swiss roll sliced at the base and some form of booze to soak the Swiss roll before adding the jelly layer!! And best the second day (Boxing Day)to eat as the flavours have infused more with the leftover trifle :-)

Trifles were always a ‘traditional’ thing to make and eat at Christmas in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
My late mother was such a wonderful cook in so many ways and she made trifle for family get togethers on Boxing Day
Now I am retired I follow in my mothers skill at cooking having watched her
Since she died in 2019 aged 93 I have made Trifle each year
For the custard part I make Mascarpone Custard with egg yolks, sugar and then a tub of Mascarpone
And a little brandy, or amaretto or any alcohol you like
    😭😭😭♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I use my mother's recipe which uses almost the same ingredients as yours but in a different way first I place the sponges in the base of the dish cut in halves with jam in them then half a glass of sherry / rum / other alcohol, is poured over the tinned fruit (usually fruit cocktail) is drained and the juice added to water to melt the jelly bricks but the quantity is reduced so as to make the jelly firmer when it sets. The fruit is spread over the sponges and the liquid jelly poured over and left to set - the custard is made and added and also left to set - the whipped cream is piped directly on to the custard and the top decorated with halved glace cherries and angelica and toasted almond flakes. I now live in Spain and can't get instant whip, otherwise I would try your version ! - love your Chanel and listening to your accent which takes me back to my childhood memories of much loved grandparents and Christmases gone by - Happy Christmas!

Wow! That is a TRIFLE! Just like we had when I was a boy. And I never knew you could still get Dream Topping. Great idea mixing two jellies and better to use a can of strawberries rather than out- of-season fresh ones with no flavour. I'm making this at Christmas. Thank you!❄☃️🎍🎄👍

I love trifle and always looked forward to Christmas because it was always accompanied with plum pudding and more custard. I think one must go with the other and of course fruit salad. I generally use raspberry and lime jelly together in my trifle and pour them together with sponge. It looks quite attractive keeping them apart so as they don't mix together. I then add my mixed fruit over the top of another layer of sponge and enough juice just enough to dampen sponge, then a layer of custard and cream topping. I only use strawberries for decoration only as I find them to be quite tart. Thanks from New Zealand.
