- Here it is, the day I have dreamed of. The day i actually show up in a kayak tournament and catch some big bass, of course i could only catch fish out of inches of water!! This was on Douglas Lake and was a doozy of a day, rain, wind and hail and lightning. So thankful to be able to compete and have fun doing these tournaments and thankful for the help and support i got from the other contestants.

John is a big guy, and the Old Town kayaks are way more substantial, stable, and roomy. He seemed uncomfortable in his older kayak.

@@drumavenger83 ANY of the Old Town kayaks are a big improvement over the 'bargain brand' John was previously using. They're more expensive, but don't forget that, in addition to the added convenience, better design....there's a safety factor to any boating outing. I can't see saving a few hundred dollars for something so important.
I would like to see him using it in the ocean. But for him it would be much safer, if he has someone to guide him. Oldtown has allways been high quality!
This is the same kayak as the Angler 100. Just a different name. What a great kayak! Very stable, tracks wonderfully, and really glides through the water. So glad that I bought it.

So true Rare air for sure when you stumble across a whole mess of them. Spring is definitely a good time for larger fish in concentrated areas. As soon as I finished this video I felt I needed to get out there today. Took my 4 year old with his Spider-Man rod and we pulled in 3 giant females. Good memories!
Just an observation from watching, when you lost the first fish you were turning back around form reaching for your net and it looked like there was slack in your line. Nice catches John.

I don't care much about going fast on the water, but that lighting starts getting close and I wish I could run about 80 instead of 25! Pretty sure I weight enough to keep just about any boat from lifting bow if I sit forward enough, hehe. Sure is hard to beat the fishing a few hours before a storm rolls in. Always been some of my most productive times on the lake.

I just used my Nikko Hellgrammite this morning. Caught 3 small bass at our local city pond. I'd never gotten even a bite on anything before there.
