    did you complete the course yet and were you able to land a job? I'm about to give up on my portfolio.

    • @MorganUX
      @MorganUX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am 3 assignments away from finishing the immersion course, then I just have the specialization course. I got delayed due to getting COVID. I have not landed a job yet.
      If you are in a rush, I would look into General Assembly. It is only a 10 week program (though it's significantly more expensive) but I believe they connect you with a real company and have you do a project for them. You would get experience being on a design team and have a great project for your portfolio.
      If you prefer to do things on your own schedule, I would highly recommend CareerFoundry. They guarantee you a job or your money back.

    Thank you for this! Any info on IxDF bootcamps?

    • @MorganUX
      @MorganUX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have taken a look at them but have not taken them, so I cannot speak to the quality. At face value, I can say that they are the cheapest I've seen ($1182 for non-members, $990 for members). HOWEVER, it does not appear that it is one comprehensive bootcamp that takes you from beginner to career-ready. It is 9 weeks and you have to choose between certain bootcamps, or spend thousands on several (Get a New Job in UX Design, UX Fundamentals, Intro to Design Thinking, etc.). You would be paying separately for all of these. If you were going to do a bootcamp, and your goal is to change careers and learn UX design from beginner to career-ready, I would do a bootcamp like CareerFoundry, General Assembly, Springboard, etc. I am excited to see if IxDF will come out with more advanced bootcamps like for XR design.

      Sorry to bother again but another small (large) fear that I have is presenting in front of big audiences explaining design decisions. Do you become more comfortable with that over time or how have you dealt with that? Do you present to large groups often?

    • @MorganUX
      @MorganUX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@iamzealot4262 So with CareerFoundry you do not have to do any presenting in front of people, you do have to record yourself presenting though. I can tell you that from my marketing experience, speaking in front of groups gets easier the more that you do it. I had to have a big marketing meeting with the CEO, VP, my immediate supervisor, and other stakeholders every two weeks to explain what marketing has done, and it was terrifying for a while. My supervisor told me to just be honest, and if anyone has a question that you can't answer say, "I don't have an answer for you right now, but let me look into it and I will have that for you next time".
      Regarding UX design, you're more than likely going to have to present, explain, and defend your designs to a group of people. If you're confident in your work, you should be fine. There just needs to be reasoning behind your decisions. Remember that no one is trying to discredit or embarrass you, they are just trying to understand.

    Hey Morgan! Thanks for all these great information. I just enrolled for CF bootcamp and am very excited. How is your job searching going so far?

    • @MorganUX
      @MorganUX  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've only been aggressively applying for about a week now (I finished the Immersion Course - that video will come out soon) and I have had a phone screening and have been reached out to by some recruiters. No offers yet, but I feel that when I get another case study up on my portfolio I will be much more competitive.
      Note: I am being a bit picky with which jobs I apply to, as I have worked a lot of positions where I essentially run my own department with no mentorship or teamwork. So I am looking for positions that specifically mention mentorship or working in a design team, because I am looking to learn.

    Thanks for sharing. Can you advice on how one can create a learning path while learning through Interactive Design Foundation. As a beginner, how do I know which courses to take accordingly just to avoid getting lost or confused?

    • @MorganUX
      @MorganUX  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They actually filter their courses based on whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or advanced! I'd recommend starting with something general like one of their foundational courses (for example, 'User Experience: The Beginner's Guide') and then continue based on what interests you.

    • @MorganUX
      @MorganUX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do a great job of teaching you in a way that is relevant to real-life jobs. I do feel prepared.
      I am currently doing my UI specialization, and I am learning a lot from it! I'm not sure what the UI Bootcamp looks like or what exactly you learn, but I'm sure that they teach you UX along the way. I would set up a call with a CF representative and ask them what they think.

    Hey Morgan! Very helpful video ♥️
    I would like to ask you, what software programs do i need to have in order to work as a ui/ux designer? Are they for free? Do i need software programs in order to attend the courses that you' ve mentioned?
    Thank you in advance! 🙏

    • @MorganUX
      @MorganUX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The three main design tools are Figma (has a free plan but is limited), Adobe XD (has a free plan but is limited), and Sketch (about $9/mo I believe). For low-fidelity wireframes, you can also use Balsamiq (the desktop app is free). People also use Photoshop but I don't, personally, and I don't think many companies use that for UX either. You would need at least one of the design softwares for a bootcamp so that you can turn in assignments. CareerFoundry offers discount codes and extended free trials for different design and prototyping software, I'm not sure about other bootcamps.

    If IDF gives you personal coaching (mentorship), doesn’t that count as Supervision?

    • @MorganUX
      @MorganUX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you anyone else that did the membership program with mentorship included or any tips on how can I find one

    • @MorganUX
      @MorganUX  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sshah5041 Unfortunately I don't. In my personal opinion, I don't see $200 a month being worth it for a mentor that you don't get to choose and is probably splitting their time among multiple students. I think that you would get more value out of joining Slack groups, Facebook groups, LinkedIn groups, Discord groups, etc. and learning from a community for free. If you really want mentorship, there is also Superpeer where you can get 1 on 1 time with a mentor of your choosing. You can also reach out to people on LinkedIn if you have specific questions, ask them for a 15 minute call or see if they'll answer your questions over chat. I just feel that there are better options out there than IxDF for mentorship.

    Your voice is very low, perhaps you might want to improve your voice so that people can understand what your saying. If that doesn't work for you, you can try to add subtitles so as viewers with hearing disabilities can follow up on your monologue.
