Mendelssohn did write a cello concerto, at least the first movement of one, for Alfredo Piatti. Sadly, it was lost in the mail! Karl Davidoff wrote 4 cello concertos.
I know right? After looking further into Davydov’s works, I found that the majority of his pieces are composed for the cello. He was also considered the greatest cello virtuoso of his time and played a Stradivarius that was later named after him! More cellists need to play his stuff!
@@fobo0053 I wish a Orchestra here in the US would hire you to play it but most don’t want to risk loosing money on a piece that might scare the public away. If it’s not Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky the public get scared off. I wonder if this piece has even been performed live in the States?
I wonder why I can't find any information on who plays the cello, what's the orchestra and its conductor. Could anyone help, please? I think all of them deserve mentioning
@@cellist6453 Я его очень люблю! Но это правда, такие сложные концерты! Я питаюсь сыграть его первый концерт и ужасно терплю неудачу. 🙁 Извините, писал ли я что-то плохо, не хорошо говорю по-русски.
Stevee GALLO It would be absolutely extraordinary if he did. Mendelssohn died in 1847, Davidoff was born in 1838. Davidoff was 9 when Mendelssohn died, and began playing the cello when he was 12. So, I don’t think Mendelssohn had a hand in composing this
Wow this is some deep obscure repertoire you're exploring
What an interesting Concerto! I have never heard it. Wery beautiful. Thank you!
what a big sound that cello

Merci pour vos partages!! Beau Travail.
Thanks for charing your passion!! Good work!
Never heard of this piece but I like it!
much more inventive and virtuosic than the first
Why don’t cellists add this to their repertoire? We hear the same pieces over and over again in the concert hall time to change it up a little.

I'm a cellist (well student) and this is in the repertoire it's a classic of technical concerti so almost every cellist already learned it

@@notnek202 yes i know... That's exactly like that and that's really too bad... It has been played but at davydov's times... Never at our's...
Bello concierto de un compositor hoy casi desconocido. La calidez del sonido del cello es profunda y sugerente
Yes, if Mendelssohn had written a Cello Concerto. But Davydov is really not too bad.
Davydov was a director of Saint Petersburg Conservatory for several years.
