That’s definitely unsettling, but it’s also terrifying when a baddie decides to straight up sprint after you, you don’t get any time to think, just sheer panic
@@GhostInPajamas Yeah but something about his calm walk just terrifies me more. Like, we always expect to be chased in horror games, but never for the monster to just calmly walk after us
how he doesn't blink and is constantly smiling adds a lot of fear. he is completely sentient too, a lot of horror games think that the hunter (in this case huggy) has to be screaming like a banshee and sprinting around, but because of how lanky huggy is he can just stroll around like a monkey. amazing design and animation too! edit: I recommend watching matpat's theory on the lore behind this game, it's an interesting prediction and he says that huggy wuggy is in fact an organic being, hence him shedding blood (and other clues)
Huggy not having any audio like screaming adds to the fear in my opinion, especially when all you can hear behind you is the *thunk-thunk-thunk* as he chases you through the vents.
theory: Huggy Wuggy isnt actually evil. He didnt attack on sight, he gave you a key to help you, he was just observing you when you were walking around (what is essentially his home), and he only attacked AFTER the toy machine was turned on. He knows that the company was doing bad things so when you restarted the machines, he probably thought "oh no! I cant let this happen again!" so then he attacked thinking that you were the bad people that came back.
If somehow Huggy turns out to be a good guy will be a pretty cool twist IF they only reveal it in later chapters since.. I assume Huggy will pop up again and again in subsequent chapters.. would be lame if they flip it right away
@@BaconNuke oh, for sure. I need Huggy to actively try to kill the player for the entiraty of the game (at least in the backround) only for the player to find one of those tapes in the last chapter of an old employee that was trapped in the factory describing how Huggy was caring for them or something the whole time, trying to protect them. Like, he hid them away to try and protect them when everything went wrong and that's why they are still in the factory, and they can't leave for some reason. (I just really like the consept of the scary monster being a misguided/over-protective gaurdian.) Give me that slow build-up and obvious-only-after-its-reveiled twist!
Nah, I think he's part of the security system that still works. If you read one of the signs on the wall - it says for NO ONE to stay after 8-9pm or something.
Wow...this made me realize his story and gave me a little hint for chapter 2. I had no idea he was helping so reading the comments as the video played really helped me understand. This is remarkable!
So apparently when you first "meet" Huggy and he's just standing like a statue there's a very slight animation of him actually breathing. Anyone notice that?
I know it's probably been said, but seriously, the way Huggy Wuggy moves is just so amazingly terrifying. Like, the way he doesn't even run after you makes it feel like he isn't even bothering to hurry because he knows he's going to get you. I can't wait to see chapter two!
Jack while playing chapter 1: "Hey developers if you need somebody else to do a log... I have a voice. I'll gladly work for free" Me after chapter 2 comes out: "Well that aged well"
To be fair to Sean, no one wants to be chased around in a narrow, secluded area with sharp turns and almost certain death. I feel the same, trust me, I spent a solid 13 minutes in the mcdonalds playplace tunnels. Truly terrifying
It is HORRIFIC to be in Mc donalds playscapes when you think your alone and safe 3 small children show up and scare the living snot out of you it is TRULY TERRIFYING
@@red.handedjill I experienced my first episode with vertigo a few days ago.. 10/10 don’t recommend lol scariest experience of my life. I hope you’re doing well! 🖤
Really appreciated Jack stopping to watch Huggy coming through the vent. Gave me an opportunity to actually look at the crawly animation that's freaking everyone out.
Literally all Huggy's doing in the vent chase is... chasing the player and it's still one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen in a horror game
Huggy bending down to get through the doorway is somehow one of the creepiest things I've seen in a while... Something about that animation is just so well done. Don't get a really good look at it in this video, but Mark's one has it showcased very nicely.
The scariest thing about huggy isn't his speed or size, it's that he's smart Edit: yes I am aware that everything else about him is scary, I'm just saying that the fact that he's smart and is toying with you from the start is scarier than if it was just a mindless killer
" You've got my warning. I just hope whatever you're doing is worth it" Kinda reminded me of "Multiple leviathan class entities detected in the area. Are you sure whatever you are doing is worth it?"
One thing that makes Huggy Wuggy scary is that he doesn't roar or make any sounds. Just a lanky, smiling monster with too much teeth that shambles towards you. now THAT'S creepy
The fact that Jack noticed Huggy Wuggy's head hiding in plain sight (10:34) is fantastic because not even Matpat saw that! It's a great detail to tell you that Huggy Wuggy is active and is coming for you.. It sends chills down my spine..
What I hadn't noticed before ((and it was thanks to another TH-camr, whose name I seem to have forgotten at the moment)) was that if you look at the note, "disappeared" and "We're" are spelled incorrectly. Perhaps Poppy/Huggy Wuggy wrote it to bring us to the factory?
"I just hope you're certain whatever you're doing is worth it." This gives "Detecting multiple leviathan class creatures in the region, are you sure whatever you are doing is worth it?" vibes.
@@nextensi not sure, if it is then that's pretty cool, either way it is pretty fitting considering both leviathans and the blue huggy nightmare are pretty much natural disaster level of deadly
It's a holdover element from his early channel days, when he would make a point to look around the worlds he was in and comment. He's still prone to doing an episode's worth of peeking around if he does a long series.
the way Huggy chases the player in the vent is legit A tier horror. The unnatural and fast way it moves around with its floppy arms just triggers some primal fear
Oddly, I was panicking just watching this and my instinct was to laugh and smile in a terrified manner. But it was so thrilling to see how the toys were displayed, either by slithering by the crevices or chasing you in a labyrinth of vents. And even if they weren’t moving it was unnerving and scary to look at the dead smile with bright eyes.
I watched it at 2:30 am on a school day so sorry if it’s groggy It starts with an opening factory and a doll called “Poppy playtime” (not Huggy the big blue doll) it’s a red headed doll and during a commercial it ends with poppy saying “I’m a real girl… just like you” and the goal is to find the poppy flower with a card saying “we’re still here” You walk into a giant room with a Huggy statue standing there(it’s like fucking 10 ft tall) every TH-camr likes to high five him There are floppy hands that you equip to reach high sensors but you start off with only your left hand You lead into parts of the factory, learning how to activate generators with a rope Eventually the Huggy statue disappears from its pedestal You find different tapes to watch on a cassette- one was about interviewing a woman working in the factory saying how it brings joy to children before they grow old and die(creepy) You lead into the toy making room and have to activate the machines to make yourself a toy tiger 🐯 After making the tiger it’s like an access card to a dark hall way Eventually there is no other way accept the dark hall that you can’t see into, once you step up to it Huggy emerges and slowly breaks into a sprint after you You go into the vent while he chases you down and maze through Later you get out and crush him with a giant crate making him fall to his death into an abyss You find the poppy flower and you hear banging noises wanting to get out on the other side of the massive wall I totally forgot the last part so someone else fill in everything I missed and sorry if I got anything wrong
Watching Sean play horror games like this makes the horror aspect a little less cause he always tries to make sense of everything or does something to make people laugh that throws off the horror. An gem among people
That vent chase was cool. How your stuck in this tiny enclosed space with limited places to go, and how a Huggy is monstrously crawling behind you is utterly terrifying. Props to the game developers for that.
Just the sheer design of Huggy Wuggy, and how seamlessly he moves and interacts with the environment blows me away!! And Sean’s reaction to Huggy was priceless LOL
The thing that makes this different from other horror games is that it builds up suspense before the scary stuff happens. And then when the scary stuff does happen it makes it seems like you have a way out so it builds even more suspense.
Yep. The atmosphere is super important in horror. Relying on jumpscares only gets you so far. Creating that underlying constant fear is what keeps it in peoples minds.
@@saltydinonuggies1841 It's also nice that the game doesn't look over the top or aesthetically scary. It has that uncanny fear of the unknown present throughout the factory, since it looks abandoned and not desolate. That makes the horror that much more, well, horrifying, because it's basically the game taking a violent left on the intersection and hitting you with its pickup truck.
@@Newtie_100 Well yes, but with horror games it’s just “oops you did the the wrong thing jump scare now!” or “oh a chase scene has started!” , this one actually builds tension.

Most people have missed it, but when making the toy, the toy maker in the middle with the big eyes, it actually follows you and looks at you no matter where you go, its a pretty creep effect they did. Just thought it was cool.

What gets me is that this game is genuinely well made. It's clear that a great effort has been made. The animations, the graphics, the music, the level design, it's all been crafted with such care.
I think the scariest thing about Huggy's design is that it doesn't really change. Even when he attacks, he doesn't get overspookified for the sake of horror. The only difference is that his mouth opens, and his teeth are sharp. Beyond that, it's the exact same design as when you give him a high five.
Jack at 2:50 "if that doll comes anywhere near me ima drop-kick a child" child: "when I grow up I wanna go to the moon!" Jack: "why wait!" *drop-kicks child*
honestly huggy's stance when walking when we first see him is so creepy, we're so used to chases in games that him just rolling on up is so unnerving. and from a technical stand-point in the age of streaming games it gives the player time to react and panic without making huggy look like he's pausing to give them time or having huggy instantly pounce with no room for the player to react and accidentally have it impossible to do the encounter and get scared at the same time which forces the audience to watch the part over and over again and make the bit lose it's terror. idk, i just love noticing this type of stuff and breaking down the mechanics of horror. this game looks so promising!!!

how he doesn't blink and is constantly smiling adds a lot of fear. he is completely sentient too, a lot of horror games think that the hunter (in this case huggy) has to be screaming like a banshee and sprinting around, but because of how lanky huggy is he can just stroll around like a monkey. amazing design and animation too!
edit: I recommend watching matpat's theory on the lore behind this game, it's an interesting prediction and he says that huggy wuggy is in fact an organic being, hence him shedding blood (and other clues)
He like a monkey yes :)
The fact that he’s pretty much a stuffy too with no spine adds to his unnatural flexibility which also adds to the fear factor

Jack: This Is Delightful So Far, Why Are People Scared Of This Game?
Huggy Wuggy: Curiosity Got The Cat, Or Should I Say The Next Dead Corpse
theory: Huggy Wuggy isnt actually evil.
Like, he hid them away to try and protect them when everything went wrong and that's why they are still in the factory, and they can't leave for some reason. the way Huggy chases the player in the vent is legit A tier horror.
I watched it at 2:30 am on a school day so sorry if it’s groggy
It starts with an opening factory and a doll called “Poppy playtime” (not Huggy the big blue doll) it’s a red headed doll and during a commercial it ends with poppy saying “I’m a real girl… just like you” and the goal is to find the poppy flower with a card saying “we’re still here”
You walk into a giant room with a Huggy statue standing there(it’s like fucking 10 ft tall) every TH-camr likes to high five him
There are floppy hands that you equip to reach high sensors but you start off with only your left hand
You lead into parts of the factory, learning how to activate generators with a rope
Eventually the Huggy statue disappears from its pedestal
You find different tapes to watch on a cassette- one was about interviewing a woman working in the factory saying how it brings joy to children before they grow old and die(creepy)
You lead into the toy making room and have to activate the machines to make yourself a toy tiger 🐯
After making the tiger it’s like an access card to a dark hall way
Eventually there is no other way accept the dark hall that you can’t see into, once you step up to it Huggy emerges and slowly breaks into a sprint after you
You go into the vent while he chases you down and maze through
Later you get out and crush him with a giant crate making him fall to his death into an abyss
You find the poppy flower and you hear banging noises wanting to get out on the other side of the massive wall
I totally forgot the last part so someone else fill in everything I missed and sorry if I got anything wrong
