The book of Joshua records the culmination of Israel's journey to the Promised Land. Here we see God fulfill His promise to give the land of Canaan to Jacob's descendants. Joshua portrays the Lord as their general, the One who would lead His people in victorious battle if they would trust and obey.
His story is told in the Old Testament Book of Joshua. According to the biblical book named after him, Joshua was the personally appointed successor to Moses (Deuteronomy 31:1-8; 34:9) and a charismatic warrior who led Israel in the conquest of Canaan after the Exodus from Egypt.
Now, after so many years of wandering, Joshua, the “new Moses” (Joshua 1:1-9), is to lead God's people into the land, take it, and divide it among them as their inheritance from the Lord.
One of the key verses in the Book of Joshua is found in Joshua 1. It says, Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
