  • Dr. Tieu is an experienced ENT doctor who is also knowledgeable on the importance of skeletal expansion, jaw surgery & myofunctional therapy for breathing & health. She often recommends patients with a narrow palate & nasal aperture to seek out expansion before or in place of turbinectomy & other nasal surgeries (AKA she agrees with making the room bigger before removing furniture). She also has a lot to share on the surgeries & treatments she performs or recommends when there are structural & tissue abnormalities in the nose. In addition, she discusses how to go about cutting infant & adult tongue ties, and the importance of breastfeeding for a child's development, and how an uncut tongue tie can severely compromise a newborn's ability to breastfeed.

    Great video Ron on understanding craniofacial development. I can’t book a call on a website. I wish to book a call with you about the Orthognathic industry.

    Really interesting content. I had septoplasty and turbinate reduction two years ago and it helped a lot, but my breathing is far from perfect. I have straight teeth thanks to Invisalign about 15 years ago, but have a narrow palate. I really can’t afford mse and ortho again, but really wish I could start all over with expansion. This kind of knowledge wasn’t really known a decade or so again.

    It’s scary to think you go to the regular doctor and will never be checked for stuff like this… I’m grateful for the video but upset how this stuff isn’t taken seriously. I’ve had a hard time breathing since 10 and have been suffering it’s gotten better but I need to get this done in the future for sure.

    Super interesting. Thank you very much for this interview. I was wondering if there could be any contraindication to jaw surgery after turbinate resection. I got a turbinate resection (performed with scissors and not preserving the mucosa tissue). I was 16 at the time. Now I'm 22 and still having breathing issues. But since I have some of the ENS symptoms like nasal dryness and crusting (hopefully it's manageable ) I was wondering if there was a chance jaw surgery could worsen (or improve for that matter) my nose situation.

      Good question, thanks for taking the time to formulate it. Definitely food for thought.

    Dr. Tieu has an attractive personality - upbeat and magnetic personality with loads of energy (which is perhaps indicative of great nasal breathing and vasodilator gas nitric oxide (NO) being produced in the paranasal sinuses or perhaps nasal cavities, and excreted continuously into the nasal airways with a healthy nasal airway that doesn't have blockages). Nasal nitric oxide acts as a mediator of mucociliary activity and mucus secretion.

      Indeed!

    • @chazlon5061
      @chazlon5061 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      so are you saying NO produced in the sinuses produces more mucus or less, and is this good or bad?

    Thank you for this podcast and for covering ENS. I had a submucosal reduction via coblation (a sort of radiofrequency technique) and I have developed a mild case of ENS. The reduction was minimal, but it damaged my mucosa surface and I can't feel any nasal airflow. This make sleeping very difficult, because my body wakes me up with the feeling of not breathing. Avoid this surgery at all costs.

      @@JawHacks The ENS patients I've spoken to have done horrifically bad with jaw surgery. Radio frequency scars the hell out of the nasal surface. Expanding the airway with MMA isn't gonna do anything to address the surface scars from the heat from RF nor will it address the nasal inflammation caused by these scars. save yourself some money. Dramatically improve your diet. Eat berries. eat raw broccoli. Stretch, lift weights and do cardio. I guarantee you'll feel better. Stay away from ENT and dental quacks. I guarantee you they won't understand your problems and most of them have egos that are so big they'll insist their treatment will help you. furthermore in ENS patients MMA can speed up the heartrate. Be careful.

    I have a question, I had a setoplasty and turbinate reduction before marpe and then got marpe because I thought it would improve my breathing even more but after marpe I still can’t breath in one nostril. I suspect my left turbinate grew back but shouldn’t I still be able to breath well despite that because I increased my nasal cavity size with the marpe?

    • @scottkoziara6434
      @scottkoziara6434 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Your turbinate likely didn't grow back. It's probably scarred from the turbinate surgery. If the nose is scarred from a previous nasal surgery Naso-maxillary expansion is not guaranteed to help. In fact it could make matters worse by introducing more air which could increase anxiety and increase the heart rate.
      The best advice I can give you is do not have any additional nasal surgery and stay away from ENT'S!
