  • Easy Identify leads on a 4 wire stepper motor with Multimeter
    Stepper motors comes with different winding configurations. I bought second hand a 4 wire stepper, without the wiring labels
    This video shows how to identify four-wire stepper motor coil pairs with a multimeter

    I used this method and learned two things. Continuity testers beep. (Did not realize that.). And my coil was wired with 1 and 3 as a pair and 2 and 4 as a pair. Did not expect that. Thanks for the video!

    For anyone unsure what A and B refers to, I posted this elsewhere but wanted to make sure this info was available to everyone. A and B refer to the coil or phase, + and - or 1 and 2 refer to the polarity (A+ = A1, A- = B1, B+ = A2, B- = B2). Polarity generally determines if it moves forward or reverse when a signal is sent (but that can easily be swapped in software). So that makes A1 and B1 a pair, A2 and B2 being the other pair. Hope this clears things up a bit.

    Thank you for the video.
    I have one stepper motor that all six conectors are beeping. What that means?

    Once the pairs have been determined, does the order matter beyond that? As in, some data sheets use the configuration 1A, 2A, 1B, and 2B to indicate coils, but not whether it matters which direction the current is travelling in.

      @@black5heepX I think you can use the voltage on multimeter to figure that out

    In the stepper motor listing in your diagram is there supposed to continuity between 2B and 2A or is it supposed to be 2B and 1B? Right now my setup just keeps moving the cutting stepper motors 3 times in the same direction for the same length even if I have 0 setup for the distance. The other wire extruder seems to be working.

    Excusme mam, i want to asking about stepper motor, i have make some project that is 3 motot stepper and rfid reader, i have a problem with rfid reader cannot read the card because if i connected the the motor cable to driver and turn on 12vdc supply driver its not working, and if i unconnected the cable motor with power 12vdc still on the reader can read the card, can you help me to fix this problem mam, thankyou very much

      That's ok but which pair is A and which is b let me know please !

    • @ragea1
      @ragea1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sandeeprajmane That varies somewhat on the brand of stepper (normally you should have received a diagram with your stepper with this info), but I've found in most cases it goes pin 1 is A+, pin 2 is 'centertap', pin 3 is A-, pin 4 is B+, pin 5 is 'centertap' and pin 6 is B-. You can ignore the centertap pins in almost all cases. The easiest way to verify what pin is which is via a multimeter per the video. I tried posting a guide to help but youtube is deleting any comment I make with links sorry.
