This is a great little chill-down game (an "Absacker" as we call them in Germany) that you can play at the end of a board game evening or just with people who are inexperienced in boardgaming as it takes just 2 minutes to teach and understand the rules. And it's also a great testimony to Reiner Knizia's amazing talent to find great fun in simple to teach rules.
This has been a real hit in our group. On the surface it seems like there’s nothing there, but the wrinkles in the gameplay reveal more depth as you play. Thanks for the video.
The rules state that chips may be freely swapped up at any time. Rusty FAILED to mention that and it caused the game to be played badly and it made the game seem half baked. Failing to mention that rule despite at least a few questions and concerns about chip mechanics during game play caused unnecessary confusion. The game seems quite boring regardless of whether or not it is played correctly.
There's 8 of each card in the deck, I believe, so you would just need 2 decks of cards and use 1-7 (or whatever card you want for the llama) of each deck.
Aren't they all easy, fast and inexpensive this year? Probably the first year in which the "Kinderspiel des Jahres" winner might be more complex than the SdJ winner.
Well, yes, you’re right, I was comparing with last year’s nominees (I have a hard time explaining Azul to many people). And for example, I’m from México and the other two games won’t work for my group because not everybody speak english so the only language independent game is LAMA and I think those factors, like being inclusive (language, colorblind friendly, etc), should start being relevant.
Being the only single player (competitive play) game nominated for Spiel des Jahres makes it slightly different from the other 2 games. I felt that the number of players playing does change the strategy used to play.
I agree. I've played the game with player counts from 2 to 5 so far and it makes the game really enjoyable. Thanks for the note and for watching. -Lincoln
@@claymeyer5046 • I've preferred the game most with 4-6 players. People drop out at different rates, giving each round a different feel, aside from the actual playing of the cards which also seems to vary more widely with more players since more people act between two of your turns. -WEM
Don't get me wrong, I love a heavy euro, but, as a connoisseur of small card games, I really love when you guys play games like this! I got Bandido based off of your play through and can't wait to play it with my niece and nephew! Keep up the great work! (I just realized I may have commented something similar on another of your videos, but oh well. I really mean what I'm saying!)
Question - a player only gives out a single negative chip if they went out, not if they were just the last person to quit? So some rounds, no one will be able to give out a negative chip. Is that correct?
I hope this wins the "Spiel des Jahres". "Just One", despite some rule issues, is nice enough but fades fairly quickly, and "Werewords", a much better game, appears to have a skeleton named "Insider" in the cupboard...
conillet What do you think the rules issues are with Just One? It’s pretty simple, rules-wise. I’m able to explain the rules as we immediately launch into playing. I’ve played it a LOT this year and have encountered zero problems.
@@halsbandschnaepper1 I think it's a good rule, Peter: it encourages better, diverse clues from the clue-givers and adds tension to the game, thereby enhancing the cooperative experience. Enjoy!
Thx for pointing this out. According to the rules, yes. But it does feel like "drawing" should give you that advantage. Makes sense to me that everyone else folded, so Nikki should be the start player, but yeah, they mimic what it says in the rulebook, so even though Nikki drew a card and Rusty folded, he was the last player to play a card, so he should have been the start player.
He explain is 10 points for each Lamma card but Lincon finish with two and only received 10 points for the Lamma card instead of 20 points wich rule is correct???

I laughed too hard at the “di-lama” joke. 🤣
Me too. So hard that I think I hurt my puncreas.
Thankyou for this, great video.

Rusty channelling his inner Dave is hilarious to me for some reason.
I like the idea of them not being able to color up. It adds a different element of strategy.
What do you mean?
Peter der Streber They mentioned in the video about coloring up. I think that’s what they said anyways. Turning your white chips into black ones.
That's just the entire catchup mechanism for letting someone back in the game. Otherwise you really never make any progress if you're behind.
Mike Krajewski Ok, yeah that makes sense. I didn’t think of that.

I think this a fun game but it would be easy to make you own deck using 1 to 6 and jokers of 3 or 4 sets of old cards
It was like $14 to buy a copy. Well worth the money if you ask me.

I love when a Spiel des Jahres is easy, fast and inexpensive, just got this one on Amazon for $10!

Once you pass 10 points, you may trade in 10 white chips for a black.
Ah, they correct that about 16 minutes in. Would be an interesting twist if you had to keep the color that you take.
@Cabal Paxiarch Exactly! Definitely a head in arse moment for Rusty
@@hamyncheese Also, he looks at her cards a lot.
Love all the caddyshack references in this episode.
Though you all stated at the end that you enjoyed this game, you guys clearly are having much more fun with PUSH than with Llama ! It is obvious !
Important rule. You are not forced to play a card if you can. You can draw a card instead of playing a card
At 11:00, shouldn’t Nikki get 13 points instead of 7? I may misunderstand the rules
You don't count doubles. She had two 6s and one 1, so it's 6+1=7 not 6+6+1=13.
@@nickambe8256 I think she had 6, 6 and 7. So 13.
@@rasljenka That's a 1. There are no 7 cards.

If I understand it correctly that is precisely the case
Shouldn't round 3 have ended when Rusty was finished?
Oh hey, it's Rusty! Long time no see!
Think this one might be a little TOOOO simple for me, but looks like you had fun!
Feels like a failed 20 year old UNO clone repackaged. With a Lama on it because that's hip with the kids now.
It fell flat for me when we played at BGG spring. Not one I'll be picking up or asking to play if someone else in my game group gets it.
Is that a Bob Ross shirt Nikki is wearing?

It's not good that you have to discard to cards if you guess wrong. That's encourage people to just skip instead of guessing.

Rusty shoulda started round 3 since he was the last to play a card in round 2

Llama drama lol
11:33 very awkward. thanks for the laughs
I love Knizia designs, but there is almost nothing interesting in this game, especially at lower player counts.
Don't llama dice is way more fun, this is basically just uno
He explain is 10 points for each Lamma card but Lincon finish with two and only received 10 points for the Lamma card instead of 20 points wich rule is correct???
Waldemar Cordero he clearly states multiple times that you only count each type of card once
Thanks for the clarification.
Lama is paradoxical - greater than 6, smaller than 1.
So it's uninteresting uno
This is by far the worst game I have EVER played since 'War' in the 80s. If this game wins I'll quit and go back to Video Games.
