Long before Peter Pan made his debut on the stage and on the page, James Matthew Barrie became enchanted (and maybe a little obsessed) with the idea of eternal childhood. In 1867, James lost his older brother David in an ice skating accident the day before he would have turned 14. James was only 6 years old. Such a traumatic loss so early in life was sure to have a strong impact on James, and sure enough, it followed him for the rest of his life. After David’s untimely death, James thought of his brother often and kept returning to the concept of childhood and explored the idea of holding it sacred. He would later make friends with the Davies boys (explored further, yet not quite accurately, in the 2004 film Finding Neverland), which is a relationship that’s more or less well-known among those who are familiar with Peter Pan’s origins. One important detail, however, is easily overlooked. J.M. Barrie didn’t just lose his older brother at a young age. He also lost two infant siblings; considering that infant mortality rates were high around this time, experiencing death early on in life was unfortunately not an altogether uncommon experience. In James’ eyes, death seemed to linger all around him, and it affected young lives most of all. Another important detail in the life of J.M. Barrie would be that, while he became obsessed with the concept of eternal boyhood, he himself never had children. Instead, he spent much of his time in the late 1890s and the early 1900s with Jack and George Davies, who were four and five years old at the time they met the author, respectively. An adult spending so much time with young boys has alarmed plenty who end up digging into the history of J.M. Barrie and the inspirations for his characters in Peter Pan’s story. Yes, his friendship with the Davies boys sends alarm bells ringing in our heads, but his interest in Jack and George didn't appear nefarious. His friendship with the young boys may have had more to do with his lost brother and his inability to move on. Later, the Davies siblings would be joined by three more, one of whom, Peter, had quite a familiar name.
I read that it was his mother that said David Barrie would never grow up since he was dead. Sounds like inspiration. I did like the part in finding Neverland when Peter said...I'm not Peter Pan, he is as he points at James berrie... I think that's his first name
Don’t worry, this man’s facts are screwed up, this isn’t true. The story is based off of his brother who died at age 12, aka the boy who never grows up.
This is factually incorrect. The eldest son George did not die at 13, he was killed in WW1 at the age of 21. I think you meant Barrie’s older brother David, who died in an ice-skating accident the week before he turned 13. Barrie’s mother said that he would ‘always be a boy, he would never be a man’, and it’s thought that’s where the original inspiration for Peter Pan came from.

Peter Pan is a 13 year old boy who never made it to 14 lost children are every child who is not picked up after they fall out of their strollers when the nannies are not paying attention, so you can say that he is a good boy
Might wanna check your history again, dude. You’ve got the kids names wrong. Peter Pan was told back and forth to the oldest son Michael, and any suggestion that Mr. Barrie was “obsessed” with the family didn’t appear until well after his death. The remaining children (now adults) swore the speculations had no basis.
Actually the narrative doesn’t really bring up the point the fact that the author used to have a brother who died in a freak accident, in regard to ice skating. There is some inconsistency in what the narrative is trying to bring up the origin of Peter Pan. I looked it up through Wikipedia to figure it all out for myself .
Im not even gonna watch the 1953 animated movie again because: 1. The theory 2. The true story 3. That one scene where he was on top of the roof and that face....(trust me don't look it up) 4. The live action horror movie that is about to come out

How many of these origin stories about Peter Pan do I have to know to learn the truth
Ngl imma be honest, I never heard nor watched the story of Peter Pan
Why is it important to remember the darkness
Why why is it important to remember the real life tragedy and darkness that inspired it WHAT IS THE REASON
That's not true it was because of Jm Barry loosing his brother then meeting the Davies family
You don’t understand the story at all, do you?
How much wrong information in such a short video.
Have you read the actual book Peter Pan that's pretty dark and twisted in the first place
Like once upon a time-

😮 not that important, it appears something great came out of his trauma, I still enjoy this movie as an adult, and this didn't change anything!!
Some people like being lied to because they can't handle the truth
