RUCKSACK UPDATE: I *ADORE* it. My fully packed bag weighed in at 10.3kg at the airport and I’ve never packed that light for so long. It’s so roomy and all the different compartments were really handy at keeping everything organised - great for this kind of trip when we were moving around a lot. I used the backpack straps the most as that was the kindest to my back, although I did use the shoulder strap too. No signs of wear and tear from it being in the hold. The only downside is the comfort of the rucksack straps; fine for an hour walking around the airport or the station, but longer than that and it gets a bit uncomfortable. It’s inspired me to pick even lighter for upcoming trips, although I’m excited to be reunited with my full skincare routine 🤣
You could nearly have carried on this bag onto the plane...i did that for some trips to thailand and china etc. I only had a carry on. You could then buy your bug spray and spf in boots in the airport and that gets around the liquids greater than 100ml problem.
The Anna Edit I’m a fan of packing light! We never wear all the clothes we take with us anyway! The only downside is there’s not much room for souvenirs.
It would be really interesting if you went through what you packed when you get back and said how useful all the items you took were and if you missed anything :)
Anna and Mark's extreme enthusiasm about their bags!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only person like this. Can Mark recommend me a backpack for cycling to work by any chance? 😎♥️🎒
As a fellow Millie who also cycles, I hope I can help 😅 I use the Osprey Talon 11. I pack my change of clothes, lunch, spares and other bits and bobs. It’s compact but has lots of hidden space for the days you might need to pack more. I think it comes in different sizes to suit different backs, which is handy if you’re on the shorter side like moi x
I don’t understand why patagonia didn’t attach a hip-strap. A full 45l backpack is way too heavy to be carried around comfortably without. Especially without properly padded shoulder straps. It seems like they only cared about the look and the inside.
@@DeborahSutherlandDebinPei Not for the Black Hole line though (that even has a 55l version). With the inside so well thought through this is a series design flaw on the outside for an otherwise great bag.
Was looking for a review for this bag this week, so I was so excited to see that you uploaded one! Please also do a side by side packing video with mark! Would love to see how he organizes his stuff compared to you!
Love this content! I can sooo relate to the backpackenthusiasm, I went always two weeks interrailing last summer with my husband. Hope you had a lovely trip!
I use the pen slots for my makeup brushes! If you put them in up side down the bristles don't get fudged up 🙂 Edit: I also really recommend the Patagonia Black Hole 20l as a packable rucksack for daily outings/hand luggage. It folds up to a small rectangle when you don't use it and a plus is that it's actually cute.
Lovely video Anna and Mark! Could you please do a video talking through the process of organizing a trip? For example how do you do your research and scheduling, do you book things in advance or are you a more of a flexible traveller? How do you decide which cities or routes you’ll do? Any tips you have around the topic of organizing a trip will be greatly appreciated!
wow this was a surprise! never did i imagine to see you packing so light lol i was the one who suggested to do a vid on what u didnt use in a few packing vids back as i couldn't believe how much u packed lol i was looking at this backpack and unsure but now i've seen it in use i love it! currently packing for a trip and saw your vid pop up! loved it!
Love the new bag. We’re a osprey family w nearly all our luggage from them. A great carry on is their tiny little collapsible backpack w just the plane essentials. Folds up to nothing, can be carried in a handbag and is great for day trips or shopping.
I used this same bag for a 10 day trip to Europe last fall and it was so perfect! Definitely the lightest I’ve ever packed for a trip but it was wonderful to be able to get onto trains/climb lots of stairs without worrying about lugging a big suitcase around.
Off to Japan for our honeymoon and need this packing vid. I have never stopped a video so much to order things that I needed! Thank you Anna ! I am going to rewatch when I get home!
Currently panic-buying ALL the things for our upcoming honeymoon ... after seeing this I'm now inspired to slim down my packing list! Perfect timing thank you! 😂🤗
Hey Anna! Curious to know if the anti-mosquito bands you mention actually worked. Going to south East Asia soon and was thinking about getting some. Thanks!
Make sure your insect repellant contains Deet. I was in the Amazon in Peru for a few days last summer and used repellant with Deet and didn't get a single bite. I know it worked because I was bitten alive when I went back to the city and let my guard down and forgot to apply it! 🤦🏼♀️😂
I’m travelling For 6 months with my main back pack 40L and a day bag 20L. I was in Sri Lanka for a month now I’m in Vietnam 😁 I’m using an osprey backpack and they’re a great brand!
I use the pen slots. When I visit family in Malaysia (I live in the UK). I just take a backpack similar to yours, only. I take a pen and a pencil, notepad (A5) and phone for entertainment. The pens also work well for filling in all the forms along the way.
Love your packing videos! Can’t have enough. I myself love to travel, and packing is one of my favorite parts of the experience. You do by far the best packing videos out there !!! 😊
Its nice to see this light packing tips I always try to improve each time I travel. I would have put stuff in the handbag you took. It saves space and keep the shape of the hand bag. Would love to see an update of what you used or not in the end 👍
I love a well laid out bag. I have absolutely no need for the Patagonia bag (I already have a backpacker bag) but it's so darn organized, it's tempting me.
Likely the rucksack would be more comfortable if it had a waist belt attachment. It would take some/most of the weight off your shoulders. I thought this was a really great video. I always struggle with travel size “stuff”.....it is so wasteful and not eco smart vs decanting what you love....so loved the Goo Tubes and small containers! xo
Wait, that thing is 45 liters and doesn’t have a proper padded hip strap? For that price you could get one from Deuter that has all the bells and whistles including a duffel bag opening and it would not destroy your back. Be careful to not have that on for too long at a time if it’s anywhere near full,
Hey there! I only take a backpack on all my trips and the one I've come to love (after so much trial and error) is my Cotopaxi 42L! They do make a 35L, which is probably easiest for most people, but I do like my skincare as well ;) But the shoulder straps are amazingly comfortable and all the pockets are really well thought out! Very similar in style to your Patagonia, but with a hip strap and a couple other thoughtful features for anyone looking! (They are a tad expensive -- I bought mine when it was 20% off around Black Friday so it was completely worth it. Their sustainability mission is extremely impressive too and that's why I shelled out a bit extra for it! Although I do think the bag is totally worth it in itself.)
Thanks, Anna! I can apply these tips in packing my things using my Nomad Lane Bento bag. I use it all the time for travel and it's just the best! Thanks for your video!
Guilty pen pocket user here! I always bring a planner/ notebook with a couple pens and highlighter when I travel. For whatever reason I’m not good at keeping track of stuff on my phone
Osprey is our absolute favorite backpack brand!! We love that they have a lifetime warranty and they are SO well organized. We use them fir our massive, outdoor backpacking backpacks, travel packs and day packs. 🙌🏽🖤🖤🖤
Minimalist or backpack-only packing is sometimes also called one bagging/one bag packing, if you want to lose yourself in a black hole online watching other packing videos! I’m trying to get to that point, currently do a lot of 2-3 day work trips with a 35l duffle (the Pakt one, they’re coming out with a backpack soon!) but would love to be able to do a weeklong trip with just that. Did 10 days in London with a carry on so I think I’m on the right track. Loved this video!!
Love your packing videos, I travel for darts with my partner most weekends and I thought I had it down to a fine art, Then I found you on TH-cam and you changed the game. Happy Travels!
When you will be back Anna, go and check in Muji stores (japanese brand, on Oxford St, Canarby St, Covent Garden, Kensigton...), they sell great and affordable packing cubes with a top made of mesh and zipper, in size S, M and L, grey, black or blue, with one compartment or two, and a “travel department” with plenty of accessories like jars and bottles for beauty products. We have many Muji stores in Paris, France, and i have purchased great things there for travelling, including the packing cubes ;-) Go and have a look, you will not being disappointed! They have alsjo an online store ;-) Enjoy your trip and see you soon !
When I travel for a short while I use contact lens cases for moisturiser etc. They seal really well and are easily washed afterwards for refilling when I’m away again.
Hi Anna! If you do more trips like this and want to travel lighter it's so worthwhile investing in icebreaker merino wool clothing , you can wear it for days and they keep you warm and cool and no smell. The joggers and long tops and t-shirts are amazing! Also the best underwear and socks, most of my wardrobe is Icebreaker now, as I really scaled down. Xx
Absolutely LOVED it! It’s inspired me to pack lighter for trips from now on. I wouldn’t say the rucksacks straps are the most comfortable for long time periods, but that’s the only negative I’ve found x

I'm really interested in this bag but curious if it is easy to lock it at all. I ended up needing to lock my backpack in Vietnam and Indonesia few times and it was such a hassle with so many zippers and not even metallic ones 😅

Such a good recommendation! Is it allowed as a carry on in the cabin?

You and Mark are too cute. I love that he's so enthusiastic when he takes part in your video's.

Both Patagonia and Osprey do have pack with that option, they must have chosen ones without 🤟

It's NOT a hiking backpack. It is a fashionable suitcase/carry-on with a backpack option.
Love that Mark shared his packing equipment! I can share his knowledge with my husband!
Will you do a “what I wore in Sri Lanka” video as well as an update on what you actually used (skincare, makeup...)?
