Discussing Abandoned Project Boats in Gosport

The problem of abandoned boats is one that is growing across the UK and Europe. One of the main feeders into this problem is the buying of cheap project boats. These boats are often bought and end up dumped because they have no perceived value to the owners.
In most cases the owners may not have the money to complete the project. Then they definitely don't have the money to scrap the boat through the correct channels. As the boat is left to rot it will begin to break down and harmful GRP microfibres will enter the surrounding environment.
Also if boats end up sinking the bill to collect and dispose of them shoots up as dive teams are so costly to deploy.
In this video Steve talks about the issue near some of the abandoned and soon to be abandoned boats in our local area of Gosport.

The boating and yachting industry make and absolute fortune from boat owners, it's a multimillion Pound industry in the UK.
Just a small tax or even a voluntary levy on the manufacturers and chandler's etc would pay for a clear up that is much needed.
Just treat them exactly the same as abandoned cars !!!!

Sad to see , yet many so called boat owners just walk away from their cheap boats , the cost of disposal gets added on to our estuary licence and council tax , there needs to be better policing of our waterways and boat registration to keep the problem down , I wonder how much money can be made from recycled fibre glass to offset the cost of removal , perhaps the port authority need to pay a sum for old boats delivered to them to save the greater cost of removal of these eye sores and pollution and navigation hazards these things become apart from threat to near by wildlife..
