      Great vid, but fit a whip check cable to protect people changing these cyclinders. You dont want summer teeth if the hose whips back into your face. Also a regulator wouldnt be a bad idea. Then you could fill more co2 to the same volume so costs even less(?)

    The tanks are potentially dangerous if the valve on top is damaged so be sure to tie or strap the tank into an upright position. Also if you weigh the tank you'll be able to determine how full or empty it is.

    I'm in the market for a sodastream, and just stumbled upon your wee hack. I'm looking at the Spirit, which happens to be on offer at the moment - direct from SodaStream's website
    - with four bottles and two cylinders for £79.
    I've already seen a few TH-cam videos about replacing the cylinder with a larger, generic option, but only from over the pond. Glad to see that this is also an option here in the UK. The cylinder is a wee bit too large for my kitchen, but I'm sure I'd be happy with a slightly smaller version.
    Thanks for sharing! 👍

    First I showed my husband one of the videos where you refill the sodastream canisters. Then I showed my husband this video. Then I showed him at 72 inch hose with the adaptors on Amazon. Then I showed him the pantry cabinet beside the fridge that we don't use. We can run the line behind the fridge and right onto the counter beside the coffee pot.
    When he considered how fiddly it was to refill the CO2 canisters vs just renting a big one, he was sold. THANK YOU for making this easy for us.

    Great idea but a bit bulky. You can actually purchase a brass adaptor for the soda stream bottles and just use the giant cylinder to refill your 11£ cylinders. You no they are full by checking the weight. Empty they are around 750g and full around 1250g. Check the weights online to be sure. Now you can keep the rocket ship in the garage or workshop.

    Cool video but you forgot to mention if the C02 was drinking, food grade 99.90% pure for consumption. Bad C02 can cause heath problems, you might want to put up a disclaimer just in case someone gets sick or dies. Cool hack but I think it would be safe to mention to go to a beverage/brew supplies shop to buy food grade C02. J&R gases is a good place for food grade C02 that's in the description but some people might go to a sporting good shop and use the bad C02 that's used for paint balling. I plan on doing the same hack, Cheers! =D

    IF you even ever see this question so long after you made this, did you add ANY sort of Pressure Valve to control maximum pressure for safety? To match (or TRY to match?) the tiny factory cylinder? I Ask since my wife has put me on restriction after I have over 100 Liters of my Home Brewed IPS Beer I USED (yes I DID say "USED TO" ) to make sort of exploded in our spare bathroom when fermenting. This was the home beer making kits with the 2.5L Plastic Bottles. I then fit as many as I could fit into the bathtub. So this ENDED that hobby. And since then I now am in very poor health so I drink BIG plastic store bought sparkling water from supermarkets here in North San Diego (Oceanside California).
    If I can rig this system to make my own water I will save my poor wife SO much expense as well as all the lifting etc when she buys it for me, usually 20 plus bottles at a time and they are BIG 2Liter bottles. THANK you for any response IF you even see this (or if ANYONE has this anser?). We simply LOVE your videos and we subscribed along with the Bell notification so again THANK you:-)

      @ChrisBiddulph  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike. Haha that’s a lot of sparkling water. I’m not surprised your wife has stopped you making your home brew. 😂😂😂
      I’ve not added any kind of pressure valve. The pressure from the big cylinder is the same as the pressure from the little cylinder. It’s just a bigger tank that holds more gas. I must confess I only open the valve a tiny bit but that’s me being silly. I’ve had 2 big tanks now and no problems. It’s saved me a fortune. :).
      Stay safe friend.

      @@ChrisBiddulph THANK you so much Chris. Great! This shall serve as exhibit A in my defense when the next trial begins:-) *For the record, I have since discovered the factory "VALVE in this device already holds the pressure reliefe valve needed for safety:-) And lucky for them! Well, no, lucky for ME I supose?
      PS-SO sorry for so many typos on my initial response! I need to stop trying to do this from my damned Cell phone that I can't even SEE! And if I could even see, my damned big fingers have NO chance of ever even finding the correct keys...I just tried to clean it up a bit but God knows I now may just show it was simply lack if intelligence if STILL having so many typos!

    What if your probably 8kg or more CO2 cylinder releases all the gas through a faulty gasket or hose? In small room CO2 density may kill you. Much better idea it to keep refilling original cylinders from the big cylinder. Still cheaper but much safer.

    I liked this video because I like it...it was very funny, I love the comment, the Benny Hill of Soda Hacks.... My grandfather made his carbonated water years ago with little pills...guess, I should look it up what they actually were... since CO2 is a GAS.... I want to buy a Soda Stream Fizzi, the thing that I don't like is having to GUESS how much CO2 you enjoy, vs. a 1 weak 2 medium and 3 semi strong, 4 is Very Fizzy...... I believe but maybe not your video on a person was inserting the plain water and pushed it in and screwed it up a bit more... test others just firmly insert and click in.... In Italy, I would always buy the carbonated fizzy, it had such a sweet taste to it.... I wish I knew what the flavour was, and then I see people putting in gaddoodles of syrup.... I hoe to addd just a few drops, to make it not "Just water" I hate water but have to drink it...oh and another question and observance.... a person too was not filling to the line...there must be a reason they ask that it GO TO the LINE..... right? Looking forward to a few commical answers... Cheers!

    Hang on... the Soda Stream is about 15 psi and the 20 lb tank is about 100 psi. To be safe you need a pressure regulator that fits between the 20 lb tank and the hose, that down-regulates the 100 psi pressure from the 20 lb tank so it doesn't explode your plastic soda bottle.

    • @ChrisBiddulph
      @ChrisBiddulph  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The soda stream water bottle regulates by itself. For example you can press the button all day long and it won’t explode the water bottle. It releases the pressure.
