Well done Tottenham. Played excellently given the circumstances. Proud of what they achieved aside from not getting a result. Handball in every game you would have seen this year. Keep the belief.
Good summary Tom although I think Austin should have been mentioned on how assured he was and why he hasn't been given a chance earlier is baffling as he is in his mid-20s and seems more suited to Ange's "beliefs". A tough week coming up which could either salvage or finish his time at Spurs as the poor results despite today's performance cannot be tolerated.
I just heard you on the podcast, Tom - I didn't know you were a Newcastle fan! It never showed. Congrats on the result today, Spurs were much better than I had anticipated in the second half. Thanks as always COYS
Ha yes, they were my team growing up although as I said in a reply to Nick, can’t claim to be as passionate as I was when I was a kid and had mixed feelings today given how invested I am covering Spurs every week. Agree Tottenham were better than I think most were expecting and I can understand how frustrated they feel at not getting a result today
Btw Tom keep up the quick turnarounds for this channel and The Tottenham Way podcast. It’s cathartic to have such a quick response to matches from you , General Buckland and co
I was down in the first row in the corner. It was a clear handball. Expected the goal to have been disallowed, absolutely ridiculous decision to allow it. Enjoyable game to watch, regardless of the outcome.
I think the goal been disallowed, Newcastle and neutral viewers would have accepted the decision. Instead, the non call has created anger and angst. Newcastle supporters would likely think they were lucky that the initial goal was allowed. Ange loves and cares greatly for his players.
Hi Tom, great analysis as always. Was at the game again today to watch what was a very good performance, did not deserve to lose. Thought Bergvall was outstanding so can confirm there were boos when he was taken off, seemed a strange decision as believe we had a much better chance of getting back in the game with him on the pitch. Lots of positives to take from this the players are giving it absolutely everything and are clearly behind Ange.
Keep the faith. Add players in January and again in the summer to build a squad strong enough to withstand and play the high intensity football Ange wants. There's every chance spurs can win the Europa league this season
Sorry Ange - as a Toon supporter I ain't got no sympathy when your own chairman was the main protagonist with the premier league in curtailing Newcastle's ability to compete with the established big six. Combined with his involvement with the disastrous European league don't dare talk to me about level playing fields.
I fully expect us to beat the Scousers on Wednesday and then go on to win both the Carabau Cup & Europa League and then to win the Premier League over the next 2 seasons. As long as Mr Levy holds his nerve and doesn’t sack Ange… Ange has every right to be angry and, Tom, your summation of the non-penalty is spot on….
Maybe he could have used both Spence and Sergi R.in earlier games when injuries and tiredness hit the team .both had good games today, and spence has been a standout since becoming a regular.,' rather than use them when his hand is forced, I do find this strange and odd behaviour for a manager., apart from that observation we played well today as a team unlucky with the rub f the green.
Hi Tom, I'm sure you're chuffed as a NUFC fan with your continuing winning run? Fair play I thought the second half was really good. The back 5 looked in control, and Austin was far superior to Forster's recent displays. Really feel for Ange. The pressure is getting to him, and everything that could go wrong is going wrong. It's hard to be philosophical after that game.
Ha I can’t claim to be as passionate a fan as when growing up, so was mixed feelings today given how invested I feel in Spurs covering them every week. They are looking very good though, if they keep players fit I fancy them for the Champions League
See happy go lucky Ange has became his real self now his team is under adversity. Didn’t he defend referees after the worst decision in PL history went for him vs Liverpool last season
If you would be happy to concede a penalty next weekend for hand ball that was identical to this handball then FairPlay. Otherwise ange is just wrong to be annoyed
@ I don’t recall the one this season but I assume it was the scorer that handled it? If you know what game I will watch the TH-cam highlights. We had one last week where it bounced off Bruno’s elbow and into the goal. I don’t think we can complain about the rules when they don’t suit us. We all start game with set rules and if they are followed by the ref we can have no complaints. When they don’t follow them thats we have a right to get upset. It’s for the clubs to get them changed at the end of the season if they are not working. I will commend the spurs fans for their mild complaining on this. When we beat arsenal last season I’ve never known anything like it. We still get comments now from their fans on NUfC fan Chanels. Also I think spurs played well and will turn it around when they get some players back.
The referee cost Spurs today. Maybe had he made the right calls Spurs still loose but realistically they should have had their first goal disallowed and Burn should have been off for that handball when on a yellow stopping Spurs counter. Spurs have had such poor luck and calls overall they deserve some good fortune over the next few years with how hard the past few seasons have been.
Never anything to do with Ange the messiah, give him another 10years and unlimited money, say the Ange fan boy Cult ! Levy needs to tie Ange another contract before Liverpool or Barcalona come calling 😆🤣
""I've never have and I never will talk to a referee about the rules of the game. I was taught that you grow up and you respect the officials" So Ange is just a liar?
I think it should be but the law is stupid so by the letter of it I don’t blame the officials for not giving it. But the rule should change as it so obviously contributed to Spurs conceding, regardless of whether his hand was in a natural or unnatural position
If joelinton had shot that ball and scored it would’ve been disallowed. Correct? If it happened in the box and Gordon scored on his first touch is it allowed? If not, then the call becomes a judgement call because it’s “judged” that enough time had passed?
@@Volkl1979 Exactly, and VAR is for "clear and obvious" refereeing errors, which it wasn't. Could have gone either way to be fair. As a Newcastle fan I'm certainly not complaining though.
The officiating today was a disgrace. How nobody was sent off for Newcastle was ridiculous. Did you not see this Tom or are you just playing to the sack race like everyone else?
@ no… although contributing yes… more the general disruption in the centre of the park. Then the constant time wasting. It’s hard to see each incident in the stadium but overall there must have been 4-6 fouls per person in the midfield… the handball inclusive.
Both sets of fans have got huge lists of dodgy decisions and reasons as to why the ref was appalling. Can we not just all agree that he was appalling all round?
@@soulsnipergaming6081 Maybe you'd do better if your focused on your own players and team rather than "hoping" that bad decisions is a reason for the loss. Sarr played a suicide pass across his own box for the first goal, which Bergvalld couldn't offload becuase Porro was too far up the field. Then Dragusin was left defending on his own against both Bruno and Gordon - again because Porro was AWOL. Spurs were 1-0 up at the time. Why was Sarr playing such a ball? Why was Porro not focused on defendinga 1-0 lead around his own box? Angeball.
I’m very critical of Ange but today I thought we were extremely unlucky, I was actually quite proud of the way we played. How the Ref took that long to book Burn and Joelinton is beyond me. The handball should’ve disallowed the goal , I don’t believe that should be the rule but it seems to have been the rule all season (costing us a goal this season) so it changing today is typical Spurs. It’s the worst refereeing performance I’ve seen in a Spurs game this season. Despite me coming away from the game with positives that I haven’t been able to find recently the one criticism I will still have is , when Gray is a CM AND is struck down with the virus why still does he not play Dorrington ? I think that’s the third game running he’s played someone onside for a goal? Then put Spence at CB (who I actually thought looked more natural there than Gray) and again leave Dorrington on the bench? Again Gray looks a player , please play him in his position. But I was expecting the worst and actually thought Ange had a point in his post match comments.
I feel like it equals out over time. The rule favoured us today, but the opposite call removed a goal from us last week, and another knocked us out of the Champions League last season, and then Gordon’s bloody nose in the penalty box today. Ange can be angry if he wants, but it’s not rational (Newcastle fan)
Thanks Ian. Yeah it does even out, but can understand why Ange is feeling particularly frustrated today. Feel the law is an ass on this one, not the officials, as I say in the video. Eddie Howe has the Toon flying right now
@ The only alternative rule I can think of that’s simple/defined enough to implement is penalise all hand contact, regardless of position/intent, which reduces the interpretation element, but probably leads to me assesque scenarios 😂
As I say in the video, I feel today’s performance actually gives more reason to be optimistic against Liverpool compared to games of late - but I agree, I still think they’ll go out because Liverpool, even a much-changed side, are too good
Well done Tottenham. Played excellently given the circumstances. Proud of what they achieved aside from not getting a result. Handball in every game you would have seen this year. Keep the belief.
Absolutely agree! Spurs played out of their skin! I’m very proud of the boys!
XG was 2.45 Newcastle to .94 Spurs... great performance lol

Ange was extremely angry today. Far angrier than he normally is.
The “fragile foundations” post-match presser springs to mind
I was down in the first row in the corner. It was a clear handball. Expected the goal to have been disallowed, absolutely ridiculous decision to allow it.
Enjoyable game to watch, regardless of the outcome.
Nobody saying it did not hit the hand it is the rules we all play to

My dad is a Newcastle fan and over the past few years Spurs has easily turned into his favourite fixture of the calendar 😭😭
Mainly away at St James’ that Spurs have struggled in recent years
Should have been a yellow card for the Gordon broken nose and a penalty for Newcastle.

Non-penalty? Not sure I can share your confidence (presuming it isn’t meant ironically)
Ange needs to go, simple!

You’ve gotta hope what Ange is telling players (ie that all this pain in adversity will make the success down the line even sweeter) comes to pass
Solanke is the player that I hoped Richarlison would be.

It led directly to a fucking GOAL

🤣
The officiating today was a disgrace. How nobody was sent off for Newcastle was ridiculous. Did you not see this Tom or are you just playing to the sack race like everyone else?
