    This is the scientific test I was looking for. Lumens don't mean anything when driving on a dark road, but luxes do and performance over extended driving are equally as important. Thanks

    I was so stumped which headlight to use. So I took your advice and popped in some Y13’s in my my 2013 Chevy Volt. I’m shocked how great they are. Such a huge vision difference over stock. I bet the Q16 would be great in a headlight that has a separate highbeam projector, as you don't usually run those for all that long, and you don't usually have weak spots in highbeam projectors.

    May 2022 I bought the Q16’s, just seeing your channel today after clicking through some videos to solve hyper flashing on LED Turn Signals and thought I’d see if my research served me well.
    Your Q16’s looked different than mine, so I went to check n see what I ordered, guessing the H4 vs H11 is probably the main difference but seems a 2022 updated version (H4/9003) with a different fan style and driver exists now. Curious if the change may have impacted its performance.
    Auxito seems to be a great company so far. In my Sequoia, as most Toyotas of similar age seem to have issues upgrading to LED’s where there is hyper flashing or no working fog lights issues, at no additional cost they sent out the harness for each light to correct the problem.
    I’ll be Subscribing after watching this single video, watching for similar content in the future.
    Well done, and thank you.

    Great review. An observation on the Q16: it IS adjustable. There’s a small Phillips screw that’s visible and the collar/ring does move. Curious if the cutoff and spread would be better on your test if it was properly clocked.
    Question on the Y13: was the bulb clocked to 9/3 o’clock? I did on my projector equipped headlight on these Y13 bulbs and the difference was pretty dramatic on the hotspot size. The properly clocked setup being better.

    That weak spot/shadow is due to light blocked by the central stalk making it Non-360 degree light source. Brighter ones make the shadow look worst because it looks more contrast compared to the brightest spot

    The Y13 is a great light. It has a great beam projection, with virtually no dark spots in the front of the car. It's small and light in weight, and slips into the headlight socket effortlessly. I've had a pair in my car for nearly 4 years and they're still going strong. I just wish Auxito would update the light by keeping the design, but upping the lumens. Even if you are not running the Y13s, I would recommend them as a spare set to keep in the car just in case something happens to your installed lights.

    Hello, and thank you for the great in-depth review! I just replaced all four of my headlight bulbs with halogens after one of the low-beam bulbs burned out. Since I needed to take care of it right away, I didn't have time to review LED bulbs, but did that aftter the replacement. I ended up ordering Auxito replacement bulbs for all the interior and exterior, and expect the order to arrive today. I noticed that of all five of the lights you reviewed, only one was fanless. I'm still learning a lot about the different options, and wanted to get your feedback on pros and cons of having a fanless unit. Unfortunately, I didn't come across your review until today. If I had seen it sooner, I would have asked this question before placing my order. Hopefully, fanless LEDs are just as good and reliable as fanned units.
    Thanks, and I look foward to your reply!

    The dark spot at the bottom of the beam pattern is because the output isn't actually 360* as claimed. There is a dead spot from the board/heat sink. If you rotate the bulb 90* the pattern will change. On my headlights the plug sits about 5 o'clock so the pattern gets really distorted with the fixed tabs.

    I bought the Q16 after seeing your test results. To me it seemed to have a good mix of attributes.. high output, low noise, all in one form factor, decent energy usage, and the thing that pushed it over the line for me was they were on sale for 24usd shipped.
    The biggest problem with the Q16 was that it hit 76 degrees C. which is not that hot, but hot enough to drop the output by 30%. so I made a plan to order some upgrade parts at the same time I bought the LEDs.
    When it all arrived, I opened up the LED housing using a triangle bit, used some IPA to clean off all the stock thermal paste.. which I have to say was hilariously sparse and inconsistently applied. Added my own ceramic thermal paste which I chose for it's longevity, resistance to pump out and drying, ease of application, and cheap price. However, it's performance at heat transfer is good but nothing special.. probably as good or slightly better than the stock thermal paste if it was applied properly lol. I then added a 28mm x 28mm x 15mm heatsink to the back of the LED housing with some thermal glue.. by luck I had ordered the exact right length/width to fit it perfectly. My car doesn't use a dust cap but it's still fairly cramped in there.. it fit well but could have maybe went 28x28x25 at most.
    Anyway it all worked out great. light output is very good, the heat transfers into the heatsink excellently. overall hope my mods allow it to stay cooler and in turn stay brighter and last longer.

      Hey dude, I'm back to give you my thoughts.
      I installed the Y13 and ALMOST instantly I noticed they were the brightest LED's I have tried (2013 corolla hatch / projector type headlights). I did some driving around for testing and confirmed these are slightly brighter than the 55w HID setup I used to have a few years back and the last pear I had (NOVSIGHT 50W 12000LM/Pair LED's). However they weren't as bright as the Auxito M4 (2010 Corolla Sedan/diamond type headlights) I believe this is due to the diamond style headlights. When I find some time I would like to try adjust the bulb sitting location for optimum performance. Anyway, I'm still happy with the purchase. These are the brightest bulbs I have tried, even though only by a small margin in still happy. Thanks again.

I'd say the M3 and the Y13 are more or less equal but for different applications; the M3 for reflectors, and the Y13 for the projectors. In my opinion, temperature defines the durability/longevity of those lamps. In this case i would opt for the m3 with zes chips. They run low temp, low wattage and great light output(lumens) and ZES used to be a philips chip if im not wrong.

    • @cutesammie
      @cutesammie 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @toyotabrony Yes, it's really very bright. One quick thing to note is that the PD trigger is limiting the bulb from reaching its maximum possible wattage. The reason being is because I also tested novsight N60 (which is rated at 100W per bulb) with the same PD trigger and I observed 32W per bulb. However, according to this channel, 66.2W per bulb was observed for N60. In essence, the PD trigger is not reporting the correct wattage. The only way to know the correct power rating of the bulb is to use a proper power meter. Since I don't have that, I had to settle with what I have.

My road conditions and ambient light and camera settings might make a headlight look very bright or very dim compared to your conditions, and anyone who makes lighting videos from the road and presenting that as "accurate" is misleading. That's why I do the same test in the same environment every time. My data tells the truth in my videos at carlightreviews.com/headlightspecs

  • @pbatacan
    @pbatacan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Got the q16 and it’s a beast. Have you considered airflow when driving? I believe there must be at least some sort of airflow when you drive. As such, it might actually be retaining a tad more lux after 27mins. Thanks for your review!
    Maybe you could also do a comparison between those fanless leds (braided aluminum) vs those with fans. I want to know their thermal performance.

    • @CarLightReviews
      @CarLightReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, that Q16 is indeed a monster when it comes to output. How long have you been using yours?
      Yes, there is always the airflow aspect to consider, but I can't test for the difference in sitting at a stoplight and doing 150mph (which I may or may not have done a time or two) so that is why I test the halogen as a baseline and the LED upgrades in the same exact consistent environment.
      I used to use the fanless headlights with the braided aluminum heat sink and they seem to work OK, but I think there is a reason that they are not more common. Powered fans seems to be the way to go. I think the only way I could do a test to see the true effectiveness of of the braided heat sink is to find one that has has both versions...a powered fan or the braids....but otherwise exactly the same. I am not sure if something like that exists.

      My H4 lamp has this braided thing. Already using it for ra year. So far so good.
      This H4 brand im using has an interesting design, the low beam does not turn off then you use high beam. Effectively you are using either low or low+high beam. Thereby increasing light output tremendously. Have you reviewed h4s before?

    - Need a discussion of properly aimed headlights. IMO most vehicles on the road have improperly aimed headlight assemblies to begin with because vehicle inspections really aren’t a thing in the U.S. anymore. As vehicles wear and age, the way they sit on their suspension alters the factory/brand new headlight setting. This is so important for LED or halogen. Reflector or projector. 25 feet back, with your headlights projected onto a wall, you want the top of the light bar cutoff a minimum of 2 inches lower than the measurement, at the car, from the ground to the center of your headlight assembly. I go ~3.5 inches lower, putting the cutoff(that I can visually observe at night on the ground) out between 3-4 car lengths in front of me. I never get flashed with LED bulbs and would never go back to halogen.
    - You want the blade of the LED bulb positioned like you’re using a knife in the kitchen. Completely vertical. This is very important for reflector assemblies. Walk around a big parking lot and look at how many people have their LED bulb blades horizontally and diagonally positioned in their reflector style assembly. It’s a lot. That scatters the light really weird. Put your car LED light on a wall and spin one around in a reflector style assembly and you’ll see. It’ll even change the pattern slightly in a projector assembly.
    - Only buy a blade style LED bulb and, IMO, never get LEDs less than 5500K for street use. Whilst the K rating is technically color, not LUX(brightness), regular human beings react worse to extremely white spectrum light than to soft light with the blue hue. Even when the two lights are the exact same LUX.
    - If your headlight assembly plastic is yellowed polish it clear or replace. Don’t just purchase super bright LED bulbs to compensate. You’ll find that with a clear assembly you won’t need extremely bright LED bulbs for street use.

    The gap at the bottom of the beam has nothing to do with the amount of light (there's no such thing as too much light that can affect the shape of the beam) but with the bulb design. It's the reflection of the gap between the emitters, the same one you would see when shining at the wall. That's why the Y13 didn't show any gap, with its design LEDs are very close together and there's no "walls" around them to stop the light therefore there are no gaps either.

    Interestingly, NO where on my purchase of the M3 Auxito bulbs (on Amazon) is there the words 'M3". I bought mine over a year ago for my 2018 Maxima and bought three more sets for the HB's and the fog lights (6x). Again, no where does 'M3' show up on Amazon for the bulbs you reference but lucky for me, they are the same exact design. Oddly, I have much more light output through my '18 Maxima than what you show so I'd be careful about discriminating over 'light output' per say since every bulb chassis is going to represent differently in every car. For my Maxima, the Auxito bulbs were GENEROUSLY way more brighter, whiter in kelvin and throw was just night and day! I almost considered selling it until I installed these bulbs. Their output is discernibly brighter than what you were able to present. Cheers.

    • @CarLightReviews
      @CarLightReviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can currently see the M3 designation if you go to geni.us/auxito and click on "LED FORWARD LIGHTS", that will show a list of their series, including M3. It seems that some lighting companies aren't the best about keeping consistent model number designations.
      I wouldn't be surprised if it seems that they are brighter in your car than in the test rig that I use. Some OEM light housings are simply better than others. This is why I compare both halogen and LED using the same test setup to show the difference over the baseline test.
      My question is...how do you know for sure they are actually brighter in your headlight than in mine?😁

    Would you be willing to test out all of Sealight LED headlights next?

      I do have one Sealight on the schedule, and will be doing more of them as time goes on. Thanks for the suggestion!
