Weylon Jennings, a pure Country Western Artist who sings his life stories so well, and a gr8 steel guitarist and band to accompany him awesome 👏 👏 gr8 to hear. all the way from Aotearoa/New Zealand 🇳🇿 with love ❤️ RIP Weylon 🙏🏼 🎉
What you are hearing here, words cannot describe. Country to perfection. The great Ralph Mooney and Waylon intertwined for 3:36 minutes. Does my soul good to hear it. The greatest ever. RIP Waylon and Ralph. My heroes forever.
In my humble opinion, one of the finest voices to ever come thru Nashville. He may have been Outlaw, but he was Country to the core. He sang from the heart, for the love of the music, and not for the pocketbook like too many of todays siners do. Rest In Peace Waylon, your music was always an inspiration to me.
The finest steel break EVER in country music. There will never be another MOON ! or Waylon either for that matter. May you both rest easy. Roy in Nova Scotia
"The finest steel break EVER in country music"? So much for Jimmy Day and "Pick me up on you way down", Tom Brumley and "Together Again", Jon Hughey and "Look at Us", not to mention the world's most "foremost" steel player, Buddy Emmons and "Knight Life"! Ralph Mooney was indeed great. However, he could NOT carry the case of the other players' steel "breaks" listed above. He would tell you that if he was still alive. Oh well. To each his own.
From a 77 year old lifelong country music fan, the break by Ralph Mooney here is the best I’ve ever heard. Absolutely beautiful. And following the break, Waylon gives the audience a couple extra measures to fully appreciate what they’ve just heard. Perfect.
Ralph was a Gift from God to Country Music. "Moon" was a Christian, and he is with God. We were Blessed to have his sound, that Steel Guitar and Waylon Jennings. I sure missed them both.
Just found this fantastic country song by Walon Jennings. God, what a voice he had, the deep tones and melodic sounds rolled into one. The steel guitar player is the best I've ever heard. In Australia, we never got to hear much songs from country singer, they were heard more on the other side of the East Side of the Country. Waylon is a slightly better singer than Johnny Cash, in my mind due to the range of tones Waylon produced. R.I.P.
AWESOME, R.I.P. Mr. Mooney! REAL country wouldn't be as good had you not shared your heartfelt steel! May your ghost inspire todays musicians . . . and maybe kick a few "music" executives in the ass!
I don't know much about steel guitar playing, but it sounds like Mooney finishes his solo, sets up Waylon to sing, then almost launches into a second solo. Wish he would have! Love it.
Mr. Ralph Mooney plays it perfectly here, not too much, not too little, just enough to hug the vocalist and support the other musicians in the band. 2:13 - Every musician, whatever style, whatever genre, should really take a good listen to how Mr. Mooney places the notes in the solo. It's not about speed, flash or firing off a bunch of notes. It's about touch, feel and the placement of notes.
@@jimmychambers1501 are you saying Wynn was better than Waylon vocally? Not arguing was just curious if that is what you meant? I think Merle is certainly as good.

I'm pushing 70 years, now, and I'm still in love with him. So glad you lived during my lifetime, Waylon!

What a sound from Ralph Mooney. This is definitely up there with my favourite examples of pedal steel soul and tone. Perfection.
At least Moon is in the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame. I agree, he should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame without a doubt.
Ralph Mooney needs to be in the country music hall of fame ASAP. One of the most influential musicians in country music history.
He's not?! That's insanity.
+Vaughn Brady AMEN THE GREATEST.....
The CMA wouldn't know Country Music if it bit them. They do know pretty boys and girls though. Moon should've been inducted years ago.
He was inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 1983 ?!
YES INDEED
One of my all time favorite Waylon songs Ralph Mooney on that steel guitar knocks it out of the park them two made magic together ❤️
You can tell even Waylon was in awe of Ralph Mooney. Beautiful performance. 🌙 =W=
Fact is Waylon didn’t like steel guitar at all, until he heard Mooney play.
I will always love Waylon and Mr Mooney together!!! Best of classic country!!
+Joshua Austin YOU SAID THAT RIGHT...LOVE THEM....

Right now, for him, this is the greatest steel solo ever. Fine.

ol Hoss was lingering on the aftertaste of Mooney's mastery. He just needed a moment to gather himself to resume singing.

Very well stated. As they say it's often what you don't play that counts. Leave holes in the right place and let the solo breathe.
My dad played steel since he was nine years old. Love it great job moon
@MARIE FRENCH 👌🤗
"Listen to the Moon"...a great steel guitar back up to a great tune by Waylon!

That's All..Love It...
One of the smoothest steel rides I’ve ever heard.Hope to one day be able to play 1/100 as good as Moon.
We have lost a National Treasure here. RIP, Mr. Mooney.
Ralph mooney, I love the sound he gets out of his steel By the way the steel is the bar he holds in his left hand.
RALPH MOONEY WAS THE GREATEST STEEL PLAYER OF ALL TIME !!
I love this song
It is said that Waylon said the greatest octave range of any singer, Quite believe it. Just perfection.
Roy Orbison had one of the best octave ranges of all time. Waylon too.

Oh whoever posted the names has the drummer wrong. It is Dan Mustoe (NOT Roscoe) Thought I would clear that up for ya'll.
Some don't like ,Waylon or steel guitars....those people are NOT to be trusted!
and that's the truth
Is this live version on an album?
Is this a cover? Or did Waylon do the original?
It is written by Silverstein
