Sorry but there are some mistakes here, I think.
To record staying synchro with the rythm on both tracks, they have to be set with tempo.s on, and loop.s on (and quantize to measure).
But even in single mode, once you play, both loop.s set to on, means "single parrallel mode activated".
That means, both tracks will start together, even if you can can hear only one, due to the single mode.
So, if your verse and chorus contains same measures numbers (even if the 2 tracks do not have the same measures lenghts, i..e., for example your 1st track contains 2 measures, your second track contains 4 measures, but when you play, you read always two times the first track and one time the second one), it seems to work ok.
But if your verse and chorus do not have the same measures lenght, it will no more work like this.
For example, let say your first track contains 2 mesures, your second one contains 4 measures.
Playing only one time each track will have for result to play the 2 measures of track 1, and then the last 2 measures of track 2 ...
To be sure your tracks will always begin at their own first measure, you've got to set at least one loop.s to off after recording.
So you've got 2 way to set the single mode, with 2 kind of result.
And by the way, track chain serie/parrallel don't change anything about the single or multl play mode; it's just a way the internal audio is routed.

This video/demo was great! I’ve see other attempts to explain this on TH-cam, but this was easily the clearest to follow step by step. Worked the first time!
As others have noted, it only stays rhythm synced if your second track’s length is a multiple of the first track’s. But that’s a workable limitation for basic looping and songwriting.
One trick I’m still working on is if you switch tracks and record a 4-bar or 8-bar chorus, the looper will play the chorus again after you hit the REC/PLAY button. It didn’t happen in his video because his chorus loop was only two bars. You could switch T1 and T2 to start playback immediately rather than at loop’s end, but then your transitions are a little wonky.
It’s nice that you can set up a memory to work like this, try it, and then just use other setups on different memories if you want to use the tracks in parallel.

Overall good video. I had a problem with different measure loops. The looping track one which was the longer one started from the middle of the loop it didn't start at the beginning. I decided if I take Loop sync off on the second track this would free it up so it doesn't align with track one which is a different measure length. It seemed to work so I kept all your settings except on track two I put track sync off. This seemed to do the trick and I haven't noticed any issues with the drumming out of time. But really I haven't tried it for any length of time to be sure. The other setting I changed was loop end instead of immediate this way when I click the button for the next track it wouldn't start playing until the verse was finished or the chorus was finished. I think I did the same thing in memory mode where it asks Loop end

After looking at JeeWee settings over and over and duplicating on my rc-500. The only way it works is if you have recorded multiple or equal measures of one track vs the other. In this instance JeeWee recorded 4 measures on T1 (Verse) and then after a bass overdub on T1, recorded 2 measures on T2 (Chorus) in time with the end of T1 loop. From then on you can switch back and forth and more or less stay in tempo with the rhythm track. However if you actually recorded 3 measures of the T2 Chorus instead of 2 things will not work. You will have a gap of 1 measure at the end of T2. There is a work around that I found, and that is, you have to turn to loop sync off on one of the channels via the loop options button. In this case, track 1 is the verse loop and if you have a chorus that doesn't match up with multiples of the first loop (T1) turn loop sync off on track 2 (Chorus). The caveat to this is that you have to end the track 2 loop manually as it will not be in sync so most likely it will be a fraction of a beat off. This means that once you switch from track 1 (verse) to track 2 (chorus) you can only let the chorus track play the first time and then switch back to to verse again. That means you have to play out the T2 Chorus to the end of its loop before switching to the T1 Verse. If I got this wrong for some reason. Please post.

BTW love how you just simply explain, straight to the point, without all the usual unfunny jokes, and endless talking, also watched another video of yours about the chorus and verse, which was excellent and easy to understand. I saw somewhere that you can play a riff, stop and the pedal can put a drum beat to your riff, as I dont have the pedal yet I dont know if this is easy to do, but could be a great subject for a future video. Thanks for taking the time to carefully work out what needs to be said, its a real pleasure watching

The example in video worked just because the chorus is repeted 2 times whitch gives 4 mesures (equal to verse). I contacted Boss Service and the answer was: "This is the nature of the Loopers in general.
If you want to use the Looper “Out of precise timing and sync” you can use loop.s off but then nothing will be in sync.
With all our loopers for best results you must use track 1 and 2 at the same lengths, and also Loop Sync On …".
It's too late for me to return the unit and so I have to sell it on market. My question is, will the RC-600 be the same? I have to know the answer to buy one.

Firstly, this question should be asked to the BOSS company. Secondly, yes, and the BOSS is 700, 800, etc. too. Because the boss invented this thing, but that doesn't stop Ed Sheeran from using it, does it?

@@GG.SS. thanks for your comment. I respect your point of view. Ed Sheeran made magic with songs having the chorus and verse with the same number of measures (Sheeran used Boss only in the earlier days). Unfortunatelly I can't compare with Sheeran' creativity and because of that I need loopers for real world where chorus and verse have diferent lenghts. The problem only aplies if you want to be in sybc with a rhythm machine internal or external (Sheeran normaly used is guitar live as percussion. No problems that way)

@@GG.SS. I tried your settings hopping that all I learned in the last ten years of looping with Boss loopers was wrong. Unfortunelly that didn't happen because the test confirmed my fears:
      1. LOOP.S=OFF means, don't sync with rhythm (midi clock). So even if you are the best at stopping the loop rec on the beat, if you let the loop playing with the rhythm for 4 or 5 cycles it will be out of beat. Of course if you let it play just one or two times probably you will not notice tthe drift.
      2. TRK CHAIN=SERIES has nothing to do with playing Track2 after Track1. The only effect it takes is, by the Boss manual, "The output of track 1 is connected to track 2" and only makes diference if you are in PARALELL mode. If you are in PLAY MODE = SINGLE thist setting is useless because you can't play both.

Your settings an method seem to work but does this get rid of the issue 'if one wants the two tracks to be in sync, one loop must be exactly a multiple of the other loop's length.'? For example: 'A 4 bars verse and a 8 bars chorus or a 4 bars verse and a 12 bar chorus it's not a problem. However, if one tries to record a 12 bars verse and a 8 bars chorus, the RC-500 forces the tracks to a 12 bars chorus or a 16 bars verse, depending which one was recorded first.' Is that correct or is the way you set the RC-500 remove this constraint?

    • @JeeWeeDonkers
      @JeeWeeDonkers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanx man, you're welcome!
Volume of stacked loops can get pretty loud in some cases. A compression pedal might help, but when you're using the rhythm machine, the shirt transients of the beat will not mix very well with your guitar sound. There's a few things you can do:
      1. Keep the gain of your Acus amplifier relatively low. This gives you more headroom and less distortion when you're stacking tracks.
      2. Program (or use the sliders) the RC500 to keep the playback volume of the loops relatively low. (you can see in the video that's what I have done). This prevents the adding of more and more volume of stacked loops. The RC500 seems to add more volume that my old RC30.
      3. If your amp has separate channels, you can rout the loops to a different channel than your direct guitar or mic from your RC500. That way you can control gain and distribution of the loops separately.

It would be ideal to be able to send MIC to OUT-A *only* during *playback* as well. I’m using a Roland CUBE Street EX, so ideally, OUT-A goes only to the MIC channel on the amp, and OUT-B only goes to the Amplifier/Guitar channel, so that the vocals don’t have distortion applied. Is this possible?

    • @JeeWeeDonkers
      @JeeWeeDonkers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Indeed this is possible. On a memory to memory basis, you can assign the outputs of track 1 and 2 to output A, B or both.
Press the Track 1/2 button, scroll to T1/T2 OUTPUT and select the desired output of the track. As this works on a memory by memory basis, you can (and need to) set this according to your various preferences per song. this is opposed to the input settings, that are set on a general basis.

@@JeeWeeDonkers Hi JeeWee. I hope you don't mind the lengthy post; I just want to supply enough detail.
I tried adjusting the output settings, and it's still not getting the desired result. It's sending the output to A or B as selected, however it's sending *both* MIC+INST output to that jack, whereas my desire is to separate the output of MIC to the other jack, so MIC can go to the clean channel (1) of the amp, while guitar goes to channel (2) of the amp during playback.
I've tried changing the T1/T2 INPUT settings as well, but then we're no longer receiving input from both vocals and guitar; only one or the other.
I should note that even with OUTPUT = ALL, during *live* playing it works as desired (separating the output), however, the recorded *playback* lumps MIC+INSTR into both OUT jacks, meaning vocals get distortion/effects.
Does my logic sound correct, and do you have any other suggestions? Thanks -Stephan
      PHYSICAL CONNECTIONS:
      Mic > MIC IN (XLR)
      Guitar > Instr-A
      OUT-A > Amp channel 1 (clean vocals)
      OUT-B > Amp channel 2 (w/effects)
      INPUT BUTTON:
      MIC IN = OUT-A
      INST IN = OUT-B
      T1/T2
      T1 OUTPUT = B (also tried A)
      T2 OUTPUT = B (also tried A)
      MEMORY:
      Track Chain = Series

@@stephanavanozian3236 I see your point. I am afraid that the RC doesn't see what the sources of the loops exactly were, and cannot rout them separately to different outputs. The only way I see for achieving this, is by using two physically separated but synchronized loop pedals.

I’m going to have to try this when I am back with my looper. I’ve been trying to add rhythm for a few days now but, each time I do, it changes the tempo of my already recorded loop. I tried doing the rhythm first and then recording a loop but then I had less control over the rhythm because it was then recorded as part of the track and couldn’t be varied. So then I recorded my chord progression without rhythm and tried to add rhythm afterwards but trying to match up the tempo to the recording was difficult and then ended up slowing down the recording. I know it’s me and not the gear. Lol. I thought I read that the RC-500 can automatically determine the rhythm of your cord progression but I haven’t been able to get it to do that either. 🤷‍♀️

Sorry but the RC 500 firmware & UX is crap regarding single mode. As much we fiddle with it, it does behave in its own way. I would expect that the 1st loop started always from start, which is not the case if you do for example a verse of 4 bars and a chorus of 2. If the chorus is played once and then switched to verse, the verse will play 3rd and 4th bar before starting again. It's like the loops play still in sync but the single mode mutes one or the other in turn. In my opinion not the most natural behaviour.
Moreover, trk chain parallel/series doesn't affect any behaviour of the single mode and only the boss devs know what they smoked when they put it in.

On your video your verse is 2 bar and the chorus one, but a) your verse seem to be the same bar repeated twice, so you don't notice where exactly it starts playing, and b) you let the chorus play multiple of 2 times, so you don't experience what I said.
