I'm doing this too. I dumped my S7 for a Nokia 3310 3G in November to try and go cold turkey detox on smart phone addiction and it was an amazing decision. In january with my experiment a success, I upgraded slightly to an iPhone 4S that I managed to downgrade to iOS 6, which netted me 2 whole days on one charge considering I didn't use it for anything other than the basics (except Stocks and email). This effectively meant that I still had the option of some smartphone capabilities but not to the extent that I'd start using it as a crutch for my brain again (most notably because most modern websites crash that ancient version of Safari when trying to load). Unfortunately spotty network service on T-mobile's 2g/3g networks in my area resulted in enough dropped phone calls for me to get frustrated enough to return to the modern world, so I switched back over to an iPhone 5S that I still had lying around temporarily till I find a better solution. I'll probably be buying a new phone (either an SE2 or an iPhone 8) as the battery in that 5S is so worn down that it just shuts off when it reaches 42%, but this isn't predictable either. Even with my minimal phone usage it's random shutoffs are enough to irritate me into buying a new phone, something that has been an annual habit of mine for years. I expect to get a modern phone and still use it for the most basic of things to A) make the battery have many years of life left and B) leave my reliance on a smart phone to a minimum

Just got my SE and I absolutely love this thing. The camera is incredible, it runs super fast, the colors are really vibrant, and Touch ID! Especially since as of right now where we live in a world of face masks, Face ID is pretty inconvenient.
I am keeping my iPhone 8. It still has some juice to it, performance-wise. I really hate that Apple decided to end the touchID function in newer models, and Im glad that they brought it back with the new SE. As a former user of the first SE, I can tell that they have done a great job that will fit a very broad audience.

Android is not just a company. there are many manufacturers that use Android in their devices. they still have great value for Their price. it's just how much you want to spent in a phone. even under 200 dollars many Android phone has fast charging with 18 to 30 W charger in box that you can't even expect from apple. and many of those low midrange phones start giving 99 Hz display and great looking display with hole punch and water fall not like Apple who have huge notch at the top and looks Ugly...

I had the original 2016 SE, just bought the 11 yesterday. Dont regret it at all, was concerned about the size but it is actually very good. I recommend getting a case that is not slippery, makes it easier to hold with one hand

M Varo mine requires a new battery already, I’ve got around 30% battery life when going to bed and if it’s not plugged in to the charger it’s dead by the morning. Plus it’s being charged through the day as I drive around
Wtf i have the s9 and I'm in a similar boat. At some point we have to draw a line spending over $1,000 for the newest phone is getting pretty ridiculous. The se does sound like a good option to still keep up to date as well as keeping the price low. Although I don't plan on buying a new phone until my s9 stops functioning.

Here’s my dilemma, I brought the first iPhone SE Back when it was released (2016) and that’s been My Phone ever since. But I noticed the battery life decreased overtime until the point where it would only last a half a day without even using it. I’m in desperate need of a new iPhone because my iPhone has completely shut down, it no longer works. I love the price of the new SE but I’m hesitant because of the possibility of that issue occurring again.
Was using a 6S before I got SE last week. I love the battery life on the SE. That alone made it worth it. I loved my 6S, and the SE is like a 6S with phenomenal battery life.

Khwa Nyo Thwe agree is like the 8but slight improvement, getting around 4 hours of screen time. But using the fast charger type C went from 17% to 79% in 30 Min. In one hour was at 95%.

Dude it's hilarious. A13 processor with 1800 mAh battery. How is that possibly going to last more than 4hrs SOT?! No one should buy the SE. Especially considering that Apple's charging rates are comparable to android flagship from 2 generations ago.
I had all three and in all honesty I went with the SE! WHY because it has all the power as the 11 and for a few quid I brought the low light camera app which works really well! Also if battery is a issue for some then buy a power case your saving 100’s getting a powerful phone that still feels great in the hands....
I've been contemplating whether I should switch to this small, less complicated, less flexible, less immersive phone. I'm an Android user and it really does a lot for me, which makes it easy to get too attached to it. Not to mention, its big, beautiful, immersive display. My chosen course at school requires a lot of reading, even during breaks. I just usually reach for my phone whenever I get some "free" time, which I think makes a big impact on how I manage my time. Even when I get home, my phone distracts me from reading. Ever since we were put on quarantine, I've been doing a lot of thinking, including whether I should go for it. I don't know if I'm ready for it. I have other devices too, including an iPad Pro 11", iPad Air 1, and a MacBook Pro, but they are less distracting as I usually use them to do school stuff. My phone is the one I'm having problems with.
I like the red one cos of the donation and because it is the one I feel the most attracted to and I like the white one because it has a black screen for once but I don’t like the black one because it doesn’t have two colours in it (yeah I like two tone devices)
Another nice feature of those Apple 4.7 inch phones is that there are plenty of cases available. And I believe that Apple has kept the physical dimensions identical so a case made for the iPhone 7 will still fit the new iPhones.

SE is close to 720p(Something like 1300x750p) and 720p is what it can play videos in. But 11 and XR are a bit better with wider side closer to 1920p I don't remember the exact number. It's something close to 1750x828p.
In my opinion, one of the greatest pros of the iPhone SE is how thin and light it is. I am currently rocking the 11 pro and I miss the lightness of my iPhone 8. Not to say that I'm not satisfied with he premium features of the 11 Pro, but for a lot of people this is a very important factor.
@@MoahGentle I actually received it from my work when starting to work there on their expense. Not to discourage people from getting the 11 Pro, it truly has amazing features and improvements. I especially love the new battery which lasts forever. I'm just saying that the new SE seems great for people who value lightness, and don't care much for screen size or pro photography. I am on iPhone 8 Plus and I preordered last week 2 iPhones SE, one for myself and one for my wife who was on Samsung S8 for over 2 years so for her it’s a really good upgrade she hasn’t had an iPhone since iPhone 6. The SE is more amazing than people give it credit although there hasn’t been too much criticism. The SE IS AMAZING.

Great video Jon, I see a great market for the iPhone SE and it has a lot of nice things going for it. It will be interesting to see if Apple does this type of refresh again someday, take the body of an older model phone, upgrade some things and place a price tag on it and see if people buy it!
Love this phone. Received it as a gift for 140 days sober. Most complain about the battery life but can easily get a full day out of it at moderate use
I love the size of the new SE but i think ill keep my 8 Plus! SE caught my attention tho! The digital button thing and the size of it its pretty nice for 2020.
The screen is trash on it, it's noticeable everytime I look over at my wife's 11. Just no excuse why Apple couldn't put a 1080p OLED on it, even on the Xr. Hoping that they do that, with a 60hz panel, when the pro models inevitably go 90 or 120hz.
But it will still work for what it's designed for. Most people put cases on their phones and then design becomes even less relevant. This will steal a lot of customers from Apple's higher end models, but definitely also bring in a lot of new Apple users that before were scared of the price point.

I agree that the photos and battery life are better. I do not like not having a home button. I use the flashlight on my phone every night and struggle to access it with the 11. I have “dead fingers” and cannot use the swipe commands needed for the 11. I cannot switch between apps like I used to - probably because of the Dead Finger Syndrome. I just wish I had kept my old phone or waited for the next phone, not this one.

For nearly a decade, I've been stuck with Android since my first experience with iOS through an iPod Touch. While Android provides amount of freedom for the mobile user ( mine being the s10e ); they've always been struggling to maintain update software support. In short, updates would always be maximum to two years; iPhones have been proven to maintain software support for up to 4-5 years . That shows why many stick with the platform, along App Store, and ecosystem. While iPhone SE 2020 has less ram in comparison to my s10e ( along with their iPhone 11 line up ) ; this may be the "best budget alternative" iPhone for myself . Otherwise, I wait for iPhone 12 line up .
I just went from LG fortune to iPhone SE 2020 so yes, I’m satisfied with the size, look of it, weight, software and hardware!!! Way better than what I had... the speed compared to what I had, is amazing... and I’m not complaining at all lol
this was actually really helpful! my phone broke and I love the touch pad for the thumb print and ive been waiting and praying they come out with something smaller for my hands lol this helps me be more confident and making the choice for the SE
I got mine today and the camera is absolutely stunning. The phone is also just super speedy all around and the battery life is great. It was such a good upgrade from my 7.
Gotta say that the competition is really getting interesting. The OnePlus phones are giving others a run for their money. That and the Pixel 3A and 3A XL are also amazing phones. Great review, and I also picked up some good info on your comparison of the iPhone 11 and the OnePlus 7T. Glad there are more good choices besides Samsung and LG.
Hey I’m watching this on my se lol! The only few things that I personally would’ve liked is the original finish on the back and flat sides since the glass and rounded edges make the phone very slippery. The phone is really fast and a reasonable size. I would definitely recommend a case. It is an excellent way to dip your toes into iOS as was the case with me. After 2 days I kind of have the hang of it already.
I was so excited for the SE because I desperately need to upgrade from my 8 (part of the back is straight up missing but I keep it in a case), but the fact that the camera is basically the same made me go :/

I’m currently still using my Samsung S9+ and it’s the only phone I’ve never upgraded when the new version came out. I’m going back to the SE after many years of spending to much money on chasing the newest of the new....

M Varo mine requires a new battery already, I’ve got around 30% battery life when going to bed and if it’s not plugged in to the charger it’s dead by the morning. Plus it’s being charged through the day as I drive around

Wtf i have the s9 and I'm in a similar boat. At some point we have to draw a line spending over $1,000 for the newest phone is getting pretty ridiculous. The se does sound like a good option to still keep up to date as well as keeping the price low. Although I don't plan on buying a new phone until my s9 stops functioning.

Here’s my dilemma, I brought the first iPhone SE Back when it was released (2016) and that’s been My Phone ever since. But I noticed the battery life decreased overtime until the point where it would only last a half a day without even using it. I’m in desperate need of a new iPhone because my iPhone has completely shut down, it no longer works. I love the price of the new SE but I’m hesitant because of the possibility of that issue occurring again.
Was using a 6S before I got SE last week. I love the battery life on the SE. That alone made it worth it. I loved my 6S, and the SE is like a 6S with phenomenal battery life.
I looked at both the iPhone 11 and the iPhone SE 2. I got the SE 2, and haven’t regretted it! With the bezels, it gives my thumbs a place to rest.

SHAMFZ A the battery life is pretty good. It’s similar to the regular 8 but a tiny bit better.
Khwa Nyo Thwe agree is like the 8but slight improvement, getting around 4 hours of screen time. But using the fast charger type C went from 17% to 79% in 30 Min. In one hour was at 95%.

I had all three and in all honesty I went with the SE! WHY because it has all the power as the 11 and for a few quid I brought the low light camera app which works really well! Also if battery is a issue for some then buy a power case your saving 100’s getting a powerful phone that still feels great in the hands....
I've been contemplating whether I should switch to this small, less complicated, less flexible, less immersive phone. I'm an Android user and it really does a lot for me, which makes it easy to get too attached to it. Not to mention, its big, beautiful, immersive display.
My chosen course at school requires a lot of reading, even during breaks. I just usually reach for my phone whenever I get some "free" time, which I think makes a big impact on how I manage my time. Even when I get home, my phone distracts me from reading.
Ever since we were put on quarantine, I've been doing a lot of thinking, including whether I should go for it. I don't know if I'm ready for it.
I have other devices too, including an iPad Pro 11", iPad Air 1, and a MacBook Pro, but they are less distracting as I usually use them to do school stuff. My phone is the one I'm having problems with.

Another nice feature of those Apple 4.7 inch phones is that there are plenty of cases available. And I believe that Apple has kept the physical dimensions identical so a case made for the iPhone 7 will still fit the new iPhones.
I’m gonna get that SE, but my current SE is still functioning at full blast so, probably won’t even upgrade for another year. Thanks for a solid review.

Everyone always says the SE and the 11 are 720p... Apple never has standard screen resolutions... neither are 720p.
John J SE is similar as 7 and 8 around 750ish and 11 is 828p. The most important thing is the pixel per density though.

I'm no Apple fan but their LCDs look better than some budget OLED.
SE is close to 720p(Something like 1300x750p) and 720p is what it can play videos in. But 11 and XR are a bit better with wider side closer to 1920p I don't remember the exact number. It's something close to 1750x828p.
In my opinion, one of the greatest pros of the iPhone SE is how thin and light it is. I am currently rocking the 11 pro and I miss the lightness of my iPhone 8.
Not to say that I'm not satisfied with he premium features of the 11 Pro, but for a lot of people this is a very important factor.
What made you upgrade from an 8?

Not to discourage people from getting the 11 Pro, it truly has amazing features and improvements. I especially love the new battery which lasts forever.

I am on iPhone 8 Plus and I preordered last week 2 iPhones SE, one for myself and one for my wife who was on Samsung S8 for over 2 years so for her it’s a really good upgrade she hasn’t had an iPhone since iPhone 6.
The SE is more amazing than people give it credit although there hasn’t been too much criticism.

Great video Jon, I see a great market for the iPhone SE and it has a lot of nice things going for it. It will be interesting to see if Apple does this type of refresh again someday, take the body of an older model phone, upgrade some things and place a price tag on it and see if people buy it!
Love this phone. Received it as a gift for 140 days sober. Most complain about the battery life but can easily get a full day out of it at moderate use

The screen is trash on it, it's noticeable everytime I look over at my wife's 11. Just no excuse why Apple couldn't put a 1080p OLED on it, even on the Xr. Hoping that they do that, with a 60hz panel, when the pro models inevitably go 90 or 120hz.

I have SE 2020 and its lightning fast. Changed from 6 and the difference is crazy. The main reason I bought it is TouchID.
I just went from 6 years of a Samsung user to a new iPhone user , I copped the se in product red and it’s amazing I recommend it
I get the argument of 5 yrs software updates but in 5 yrs that design will be more than 10 yrs old and that small battery, something to think about
But it will still work for what it's designed for. Most people put cases on their phones and then design becomes even less relevant. This will steal a lot of customers from Apple's higher end models, but definitely also bring in a lot of new Apple users that before were scared of the price point.
I'd be mostly concerned about the battery. The battery was pretty weak when I tested it last week. Can't imagine after a couple of years...

I agree that the photos and battery life are better. I do not like not having a home button. I use the flashlight on my phone every night and struggle to access it with the 11. I have “dead fingers” and cannot use the swipe commands needed for the 11. I cannot switch between apps like I used to - probably because of the Dead Finger Syndrome. I just wish I had kept my old phone or waited for the next phone, not this one.
I had an old SE and recently bought iPhone 11. I dont regret it, I was worried about the size but it works very good and have no regrets.

For the next reviews I would like to see more use of infographics, which is very useful when talking about specs, pricing, etc, also I think you have enough command and respect in the tech world to do something more risky, upbeat and refreshing for a review, undertstandably maybe the subject of the review was not really exciting to start with.

For nearly a decade, I've been stuck with Android since my first experience with iOS through an iPod Touch. While Android provides amount of freedom for the mobile user ( mine being the s10e ); they've always been struggling to maintain update software support. In short, updates would always be maximum to two years; iPhones have been proven to maintain software support for up to 4-5 years . That shows why many stick with the platform, along App Store, and ecosystem.
While iPhone SE 2020 has less ram in comparison to my s10e ( along with their iPhone 11 line up ) ; this may be the "best budget alternative" iPhone for myself .
Otherwise, I wait for iPhone 12 line up .

I just went from LG fortune to iPhone SE 2020 so yes, I’m satisfied with the size, look of it, weight, software and hardware!!! Way better than what I had... the speed compared to what I had, is amazing... and I’m not complaining at all lol

I got mine today and the camera is absolutely stunning. The phone is also just super speedy all around and the battery life is great. It was such a good upgrade from my 7.
Gotta say that the competition is really getting interesting. The OnePlus phones are giving others a run for their money. That and the Pixel 3A and 3A XL are also amazing phones. Great review, and I also picked up some good info on your comparison of the iPhone 11 and the OnePlus 7T. Glad there are more good choices besides Samsung and LG.
The problem with Oneplus is their abhorrent EOL on their phones. I’ll never own another one again.

Hey I’m watching this on my se lol! The only few things that I personally would’ve liked is the original finish on the back and flat sides since the glass and rounded edges make the phone very slippery. The phone is really fast and a reasonable size. I would definitely recommend a case. It is an excellent way to dip your toes into iOS as was the case with me. After 2 days I kind of have the hang of it already.
I was so excited for the SE because I desperately need to upgrade from my 8 (part of the back is straight up missing but I keep it in a case), but the fact that the camera is basically the same made me go :/
I just purchased my first IPhone (SE) for under $200.00 (new). I didn’t think spending an enormous amount on a phone is “Trendy” - I’d rather buy a Big-Screen t.v., or something else along that line, v.s. an IPhone.
