    Thanks for your videos.
    My daughter got 2450 and band 1 in ucat and she is very upset.
    She has good work experience but she only did 8 subjects( ireland) for her Gcse.
    Can you give her for applying? Thanks

    Hi! Your analysis of the UCAT preliminary statistics was very helpful. I’m planning on applying to Edinburgh as a RUK student, but their UCAT requirements are extremely high (I know someone who got 2950 B1 and didn’t even get interviewed, and Edinburgh bases interview selection on academics). I’m wondering if you think the 9th UCAT decile will go up or down this year. I got 3040 B1 in UCAT and 10 A*s at GCSEs, but am not sure this is high enough to get me an interview at Edinburgh. Any advice would be hugely appreciated :)

      Hi Louise! Thanks for the comment! It’s always hard to compare your own chances against other people’s experiences, because none of us can tell why two seemingly identical candidates get or don’t get interviews. It sounds like you’ve done really well in your GCSEs and UCAT, so unless you didn’t do well in the SJT I can’t see a reason why you wouldn’t be competitive for Edinburg!

  • @filippooliviero8026
    @filippooliviero8026 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Cardiff seems to have lot more people apply than some other medical school, so it also means it more competitive even it doesn't have UCAT cut off line, is that right?

    • @ConnorDibblin
      @ConnorDibblin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! I guess it depends if you measure competition as the number of applicants vs number of places or as how hard it is to get an interview with a specific application (GCSEs, UCAT etc). All medical schools have more applicants than spaces, and Some of the more conventionally “competitive” universities, for example Oxford or Cambridge, actually have less applicants per space than some of the large medical schools like kings or Manchester. Probably because less people feel they will be able to get an interview. One thing to remember, is that all medical applicants are applying to for medical schools and even if they get for offers can only accept one of them. More offers are given out than places by every medical school

    Wonderful video
    A video about where to apply if your have a low gcse threshold ie mature students who retook - in my case I was very unwell and spent much of school years in hospital or unable to go to school. I left with 2 B grades in business and that was it as a mature student I managed to get my maths and English language at a college but double/triple science wasn’t an option and no others available at colleges for over 19s
    I taught myself the 3 sciences and did well but that gives me 6 GCSEs/IGCSEs of which 4 are A or above
    So many people in this category no one talks about maybe you could discuss that

    • @ConnorDibblin
      @ConnorDibblin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Katrina! Thanks for the comment. Cardiff doesn't seem to list their Scottish highers requirements anywhere I can see, I think you would do well to contact their admissions department if you can't find it online. FOr Edinburgh, they require SQA Highers: AAAAB by end of S5 and BB at Advanced Higher which they list as equivalent to A Levels: AAA. So you might choose to use that as a rough guide. THey di use both the UCAT and the SJT in their application scoring stage before interview too.

    For Cardiff, do you have to have 9 GCSEs?? My school only did 8 GCSEs.

    • @ConnorDibblin
      @ConnorDibblin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Safa! From the Cardiff Website (www.cardiff.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/2022/medicine-mbbch) they say there are 27 points available with 3 points for an 8/9, 2 for a 7, 1 for a 6. They will score your top 9 GCSEs, with A Levels already achieved granting a further 3 points for A* or 2 for A.
      So you don't HAVE to have done 9, but without 9 GCSEs 6 or above or early A Levels you can't reach the maximum points. Not that you would necessarily have to have maximum points to get an interview

    • @ConnorDibblin
      @ConnorDibblin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Vaishnavi. Here’s what I’ve seen on their website: There is no minimum UCAT cut-off score. Your total UCAT score from the four subtests (i.e. excluding the band result for the Situational Judgment Test, SJT), will be ranked among those for all applicants. The scores will be segregated into deciles and we will allocate our own score to each decile. For example, the top 10% of applicants’ scores will be in the top decile and will receive a maximum score of 3.5 in our process.
      613 I would get approx 0.8/3.5 in their scoring system currently. So I think it would depend on your GCSEs and whether you have contextual factors?
