    The incredible context of the journey to write for a larger ensemble, followed immediately by what he perceived initially as a failure, then later success... Almost perfectly typical of a person who worked very very hard and achieved greatness through that self-permission to try and fail and try again. He gives himself a lot of room to be less than perfect. That's the paradox!

    I wrote a bad piece once. Brought it in to be played. Folks weren’t as gracious as the story here. I quit writing for a year after that
