We got dedicated servers from it.
Jace, do your thing, man. If you were fired, there would have been more of an abrupt ending to your employment. You got to announce your departure and make sure passdown was taken. You made your choice, you decided your own path.

Was sad to see you leave as a CS Community Manager. You and Snut set the bar for every other company when it comes to community management.

Respected you so much at Coffee Stain. Still have tons of respect for you. Having your own values and dreams is the way to do it. Constantly looking at the past, is not helping "your" future. Wish you all the best on your new project. Am sure it will be a great one. Whatever it is. If it is. Or, if it was? Be safe and have fun Jace.

I am really enjoying watching your journey following your dream! I can't wait to see what your game turns into in the coming months and years. You've got a follower in me, not because of your excellent work as a CM at Coffee Stain (though, that's how it started), but because you chose to take that leap and follow your heart. I love that dude!

  • @MrDavidMoyer
    @MrDavidMoyer 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +86

Jayce, you and Snut, and the entire CoffeeStain team really, REVOLUTIONIZED - if not CREATED - the "community management" aspect of game design. You found a way to get feedback from the players, while still staying true to your initial vision of the project, which is something that a lot of developers seem to struggle with; they either cater too much to the masses and the project falls apart, or they ignore too many good ideas from the player base and end up with a lackluster product. You guys really went above and beyond in terms of OPEN AND HONEST communication with your customers/play-testers and the gaming community as a whole. You certainly made players feel like we're an integral part of the development process. And you gave us gamers some insight into what the development team was doing, when you would have down-time, when new features were coming, what was working, what wasn't working, etc. Seriously, you guys DEFINED community management the way it should be done.
So yeah, you shouldn't feel any regret. You should feel good about being an integral part of that, and taking that experience out into the world to work on other projects now. Apply what you learned. Learn more. Repeat. You say "no regrets." I get it.
But I'll bet there is a small part of you that still feels just a little bit of melancholy - not really regret - about not being there for the 1.0 launch, the official finish line for the Satisfactory project. At least I would, if I was in your shoes. But like you said, you've got other places you want to go and other projects that need your attention now. So keep on truckin'.

You gave it your best, you had fun and grew as a person and grew your skills and when the time came you left on good terms to follow your dreams instead of letting the discontent fester until you no longer could take. Dear Jace, of course I am really sad that you left Coffee Stain. It was always fun watching you and Snut together. You did a real great job there. On the other hand, the most important thing in life is being happy, no matter what happiness means for each person. Things have to be done when they have to be done. I am gald you recognized early enough that something new has to be a part of your life and be proud that you walk this path now although I am really sure, it wasn't an easy decission in general for many reasons. When I have been a young adult I swear to myself I will never regret any decission I have made in my life when I am getting old no matter if it was a good or bad one. The most important thing is to make a decission in general instead of stucking in cicurmstances just because of being afraid of new things and changes, which will come. So keep your time at Coffee Stain in your heart for a great time in your life and the option to learn things and just look forward to everything which will come into your life in future. You are still young and do have many things to explore. And yes Satisfactory is just a great game and all of you did a great job and tbh it's the best early access game I have ever played and I do love it from the bottom of my heart. All the best for you

I really appreciate this video as I was unable to do the switch from Jace= satisfactory to Jace = what ? What's his goal ? ... Now it's more clear, and by the way I really appreciate (even if I never look at live streams, is not my type of content) that you do this video in advance to help people to understand your choices, your ground and your answers, especially in live streams, to have a full answer available. Good for you (no more repetition) and for them ( they have explanations)

This isn't difficult or complicated. You simply reached the point where you needed to move on and do other things. That's natural. It's part of life. And I hope it's all working out for you.
That said, thank you for coming back for the 1.0 stream. You and Snutt were an amazing team, and it was incredibly special to see you guys back together again one final time.

I really hope they still include you and other team members that have contributed so much to Satisfactory from day one when they celebrate launch ! Even just an acknowledgement or some item in the awesome shop would be insanely cool ! An in-game poster perhaps ? :P

If you don't mind. How do you keep yourself afloat during development of your game? Do you live of savings? Did you get some kind of stipend?

Hey, great video. My thoughts on this: I see something like this from time to time when a person “in the public eye” suddenly no longer works at the place or in the company and is then only associated with it. I think many people don't really come to terms with the idea that when you break everything down, it's still “just” a job for them. It should actually be a matter of course not to ask someone about projects at their former employer. It should also go without saying that you no longer have anything to do with internal company matters. If I quit a company that makes ballpoint pens, nobody would ask me if I still get information from their design department to find out first-hand what the new pen looks like. To put it bluntly. I hope it's clear what I mean by that.

This is entirely correct. I acknowledge and respect the connection I have built with everyone and that it is a unique component of the work I did, and I hope to continue having fun with everyone here on this channel, but yes CSS was a job, I left, and now I do other work. Just like anyone else who changes jobs, just like the various people who had come and gone over the course of Satisfactory’s development.

Sorry you've been having to deal with that. In other news that is hopefully more fulfilling to hear ... you've contributed to my inspiration to try to teach myself gamedev and I am now trying to figure out Godot. Keep at it and keep inspiring people. The others will figure it out over time or leave.
    Jace is aces!

You've cultivated a following with your transparency and used it to catapult your own dream project, it's quite an enviable position to be in. I've been doing game dev as a hobby for a while and I find the biggest hurdle is not knowing if all the work going into it is going to ever be seen by anyone. I've of course done the small games and such, and I have my comp sci degree so I'm no beginner to development, Unreal is my engine of choice and C++ is my language of choice so it's nice, just the work left to do to get the dream project done is daunting. All of that to say, I'd gladly be in your position right now, it's completely earned, and I'd not have any regrets about leaving either. Cool to see, I haven't checked in with Satisfactory in a while until I saw the 1.0 update, so you having left was strange, but glad to see you've found yourself in one of the best case scenarios.

IIRC i got this when I was given the jumbo lizard doggo plush. lizarddoggo dot com is the store, but maybe contact the store and check if the plush does actually come with the crate if you consider buying one.

You had some amazing years at CS and did a lot of cool stuff, you enjoyed it and made a real impact on the community and the company alike. That should indeed be enough, and imo it certainly is, but you had a dream of your own to follow and you left CS to follow it before resentment could build and that is both brave and wonderful. If you're happy where you are then all is good. I have every hope you find success and contentment, hopefully this vid will stem the tide of questions (but let's be honest, you must have known this was coming the moment that announcement dropped!)
Did Snut or CS in general give you a heads up when the announcement dropped? I get the feeling they must have known you were gonna get bombarded with attention over it!

You have actually inspired me to quit my dayjob and become what I've always dreamed of: a teacher. I mean, if Jace can quit CSS, which is an awesome company with awesome games, where he's super successful, then I can leave the crappy company I used to work at that didn't recognize my talents. Thanks Jace, helps a lot

Not enough people understand that an artist NEEDS to focus where inspiration hits. You had the inspiration for a game and all of the work you were doing was stifling the need to follow that inspiration. That said, and knowing you left on good terms, would you PERSONALLY (not asking about Coffee Stain's opinion or plans here) like to collaborate again with the studio in future once you've gotten a couple personal projects out of the way? Or would you rather focus on building up your own studio?
Really enjoying the Devlogs so far. Never tried Godot, but you make it look easy (thus I'm tempted to check it out for myself).

I’m not entirely sure if I do or don’t. It’s not impossible, but my thoughts tend to be “why go back when there is a whole world to explore” (especially when I had already spent just shy of 9 years at CSS). There are many other folks I could collaborate and create with if I wanted to and I’d probably be more inclined to do that.
