Thanks Julie. I appreciate hearing that. Thats the great thing about TH-cam, and what I use it for, inspiration. This is a little bit of a crazy dream I have...living in the woods and raising my own food...but I've had it for a very long time. And have done bits and pieces, I've always had gardens when I had a home for instance, and a lifetime love of camping, living in the RV then the van trained me for primitive living conditions for sure. HA. So this just feels like it's coming together finally. Hope I'm not to old to pull it off 😀😀

My mom bought some land here but most of what she owns came from my grandparents estate so it's closeby. They are in the final stages of dissolving the trust and dividing what is left. My cousin will get the house and most of the land around it and he was kind enough to let us stay here. We are hoping to get onto a few acres I can call mine by spring. Then the real work begins....

What a fantastic surprise. I have been waiting for an update and finally looked you up and find you are back with 3 videos, what a treat. I'm from PA so I love the northeast and can't ever get enough of the green. The west is nice to visit, but the lack of water brings me home and I can't wait to see the green rolling hills. Ohio is beautiful. Loved the insight into your family and history. Looks like you are going to make some lemonade with the lemons the Covid thing has given us. Good for you, and wish you much luck and love in this new chapter. Thanks for bringing me along, you are still my favorite you tuber and the only one I have ever commented on.

Great to see you too Greg! Thanks for your sweet comment. They say in order to appreciate Nevada you have to give up the color green. So true. The desert has a different kind of beauty...and the green here in Ohio is almost as dazzling as Ireland. Lemonade it is indeed.

Yea! Yourback and in my state! I’m north of Dayton about 30 minutes in a small town. I have been through Athens a few times it’s so pretty down there. Glad to see you’re settling down and you have company. I hope you will post more of your adventures I like to see the progress that you’re making. I am thinking about living country also. I still work so I have to stay around my workplace until I’m old enough to get out of there and live on Social Security.

Oh yea! maybe we can get together sometime. I'm 1/2hr north of Athens...back in the hills near Burr Oak. Living on Social Security had been my goal for 5 yrs, ha, haven't been able to do it yet. If it weren't for my Mom I'd be in Schitts Creek. I have several videos in the hopper ..but the weather has been so beautiful and my projects all in some incomplete stage...that I've been outside working all week. My chicken vid should be out soon...

Hi Sue! I never got the notifications. That's happened a lot lately. I checked and it's set for ALL notifications. Hmmm I grew up in a small town. It was named after my mother's side of the family. There was no stop light until I was in elementary school. My daddy's mother had a stepbrother that was married to my momma's aunt. So our family was related to both sides of each other, by marriage. It was so confusing to me as a kid. Momma grew up in the big house that sat in the middle of town and all of granddaddy's businesses were across the street. 1 gas station, 1 ice cream shop & hamburger grill, a full service sit down restaurant, laundry mat & an ice house. Then my uncle who was my grandmother's cousin had a welding shop there. Right down the street was the grocery store, the pharmacy & a 5 & Dime that was owned by my granddaddy & his oldest brother. Granddaddy had horses, cows & pigs behind the big house and we loved to play in the barn. There were chickens in a fenced area behind the kitchen. I remember many a day we were sent out to collect eggs and getting attacked by the rooster. LOL I love to think about all those times. I asked my sister if she remembered those days and she doesn't. Granddaddy had land a ways off from the house where he grew vegetables. I remember hearing that old truck pulling up in the yard and if he got out to open the drive-thru gate, the shoulders slumped. We knew he was backing up to the screen porch with bushels of fresh picked veggies and all us kids were called to grab a bowl and start shelling, snapping or shucking something. LOL I kind of miss those times too. I love fresh veggies and what you find in the store these days just doesn't taste the same! Good luck with you homesteading! It's a lot of work but can be fun. Protect those chicks! I wish we could have a couple here but against the city codes right now. My hubby loves eggs and I run out quite often! HUGS~Donna

LOL, very much the same huh. Shelling peas and lima beans...i kind of didn't like doing it as a kid but it is a fond memory. Funny how a siblings memory of childhood can be so different from our own isn't it? And I know I sound like an old fart but...nothing from a store tastes like it use to. And I don't have much confidence in how safe it is to eat either. Ultimately we plan to live on what we produce. A lot of work ahead.....Chickens are step 1.

Sue it was such a pleasant surprise to see a notification from you! Good luck to you and your daughter as you start the next chapter! It sounds so exciting, especially that you and your daughter get to spend so much time together!! (My daughter's grown, married, and long gone on her own and I miss her terribly.) Anyway, I enjoyed hearing all about your family and family history! And yea, I DID think "Ohio?!... Why Ohio?!!" ;) I hope you're doing well, good to see you! :) -PJ

Hey PJ, good to see you too. Teresa also said Ohio? hell no...but she changed her mind. I think she's enjoying being here but we are pretty isolated...and she likes to meet people, so I get the dog and she gets to take off for a few days. Works out well.

Hello Sue, Hope all is well. As you know I have several RV's. I think preparing to travel is more fun than travel. Most of my life I lived on boats, so having a home is my change of pace. History is your passion and there is a lot more of it back East than here in the West. Having a homestead will allow you to travel, but give you a solid base that can be a refuge.
I still may have some travel left in me. Sadly, I am unrestricted. My dog Nikki has passed last June. I thought about doing travel things that are not easy to do with a dog. like a motorcycle, train. or bus trip. Likely this winter will just be here around the Southwest. A day's work and the truck camper will be ready to go, so maybe Flagstaff, Prescott, and Lake Havasu. Last year I did about the same and after a month, was ready for home., (be it ever so humble)
If you get tired of the snow and make your way back out to the West, You know where I live.

Oh Danny, I am so sorry to hear about Nikki. She was such a sweet and faithful companion. I know you miss her terribly. And you are preparing to travel is the most exciting part. Ha. Yes, I am enjoying doing things you can't when you are on the road all the time. Well if you get tired of sand and brown...you are welcome to come here anytime. Take care

It gets cold everywhere, ha. Yesterday it was 80. I'm loving it but I know the cold and wind will be coming. That's why I'm working on a hot tub and hot stone sauna in the backyard. If it works...it will get me through winter.
