Even as an Android guy who hates physical keyboards, I genuinely wanted this phone when it came out. There's just something about the old-school Blackberry design that resonates with me. Even watching this now, I kind of want one.
My first BlackBerry was a Curve 8310, then I got he Bold 9650. I have had iPhone's since 2011, and I'm ready to switch back to BlackBerry. I love the enthusiasm of this video, and I am ordering a new BlackBerry right now thanks to this awesome video!
From HP , Palm Treo , Blackberry , Windows Mobile & 4 years of Android use . I'm going back to BB. I Purchased new T-mobile 9900 version on eBay will arrive in 4 days & I'm stoked. Simplicity at its finest Bold will get job done
I agree that this BlackBerry was iconic. It was the one that really got me hooked to BlackBerry. I could do so much with it at the time. It was a joy to message on that phone. Not much has changed since then since I am using a BB Keyone now. The 9900 set the tone for me to be still using BB today.
September 2015 and 4 years after launch will receive new in box 9900 this week. Have not been happy with BlackBerry since my 9780 died. Tying on glass on the Z10 a miserable experience and going blind on darkness of the Q10 amoled. Barely over 200 nits. Looking forward to the "good ole productive days" with this aging classic. And no, not interested in current Classic. Two bad experiences on BB10 OS enough. Great software, two poorly designed devices. Nobody badmouths this 9900 though. Re-release last summer got me to try again!
Hi Kevin.. that's a very nice video you got for the BB Bold 9900. I'm using it for the last 2 - 2.5 yrs. Love it, too.. 1 more thing you could have added.. all the physical keys can b used as shortcuts in different applications differently (i bet you know..) i.e. a 'R' key in a mail window set you to reply, 'T' goes top and 'B' goes bottom additionally all the keys (expect the 'Q' and 'A' works for Speed Dial (26-2=24 speed dial keys.. wow !!) I know the Video's old but, couldn't stop responding.. Thanks again..
This is the device that sealed RIMs fate. It's riddled with the inability to settle on one clear design, and thus, one clear direction for the company overall. Every single encounter forced the user to make an uncomfortable decision; "touch or scroll?", "tap or click?" Imagine what could have been if RIM had made a decision for this to be an all-screen front (all-screen in 2011, that is). The iconic keyboards curved layout and feeling could have been replicated with software, haptic feedback, and ironically enough, Research In Motion of the human thumb and the feelings associated with using this iconic keyboard. Because the keyboard was all that mattered, right? A touch pad was unnecessary; simply a leftover from the days where no worthy substitute to the Trackball was available. The call buttons, back, and "BlackBerry" keys had no place in the year of the iPhone 4S. So, square the edges. Expand the screen. Return to leather and flatten the back. BlackBerry 7 OS was already exceptional operating on a touch screen this early in the game. Imagine what could have been if BlackBerry, as Apple did one year prior, made another step forward and changed the design entirely. We could (I say would) have "The Big 3" platforms... or, Android would be what RIM is today. "Bold" didn't mean writing such in oversized, "sleek" text on the plastic back. "Bold" meant making a statement by having tenacity coupled with a clear design direction, as with the first generation of this model, the 9000. You know what wasn't anywhere to be found on the 9000? The word "Bold". It didn't need it.
My original plan was to buy the blackberry bold 9900. My parents convinced me to buy the iPhone 4s. So II said yes.... After 2 weeks i got bored. Now I'm saving to get bold 9900, can't wait!
I used this the other day and its defiantly worth buying! If you just bought a torch (unless you absolutely love it) buy this one! everything in the new Bold is perfect!
Can't wait to get this phone, i'll be switching from an LG Eclypse-an Android phone- which i honestly can't stand the set up of Android is pretty confusing and there are so many glitches i found with my phone alone. I was fiddling with my friends Blackberry Curve which i LOVE and if this is the better phone, I'll be sooo happy! I think i found a keeper only a little while longer before i get this magnificent piece of engineering, THANK YOU RIM!
Excellent walkthrough. I switched back to a Blackberry (Bold 9900) after using an Android phone for over a month. What I enjoyed most about the Bold 9900 were the physical keyboard, email management, calendar/contacts management, BBM, auto power off at night, intuitive UI/default actions, and over 2 days between re-charging. It was a good tradeoff for the other goodies my Android had. But that's what my laptop is for. RIM should continue to gear the Bold line to business users.
Same here, I love my HTC sensation running ICS..but sometimes you just wanna change. Thats why im keeping my Bold 9780. I love the small form factor, long battery, great camera and LOUD as FCK speaker. Which is louder than my Sensation. Great quality feel and keyboard. Its a keeper..for years maybe! I just hope RIM doesnt die!! Will we still be able to use our BB's??? :(
I've got the Blackberry Bold 9900 for my work/business purposes and a HTC One X for my personal purposes and the Bold offers THEE best business control and the keyboard is AMAZING! The One X is a great phone as well, but as far as business and calls and such, the Blackberry offers the best of any phone I've ever owned.
This is a very well done review :) But I would like to know more about the antenna. You said it is placed at the bottom of the phone (behind the metal-like part); but you also showed something on the battery cover. Is that an expansion of the antenna? Thanks in andvance!
Upgrading from my Torch to this next week, Cant wait! BLACKBERRY FOREVER! no one can compete with the QWERTY keyboard and BLACKBERRY MESSENGER! and EMAIL!
I have an iPhone 4, I've had every iPhone, never used another phone! But I am kinda getting bored with it :/ I really like this phone! My contract ends in a few months and I don't know whether to switch to this BB, I don't know if I'd miss my iPhone!!! HARDEST DECISION EVER IN LIFE OMG
nice review Kevin! keep up the great work. The keyboard is like butter! i have a torch and love the bigger screen (old age eyesight lol) but if anything the keys will make me switch. i have ipad for apps and the big screen so no loss. did have a playbook but returned 3 of them, TH-cam wouldn't stream properly :(
I am thinking of going back to BB. I've owned a couple of Curves in the past and a couple of Droids. They both have their qualities and drawbacks, but I really miss the keyboard and how easy it was for email and texts. 9900 looks very sweet. :-)
this is my 6th blackberry..and its awesome.. what kevin said is true..i can stop typing on the 9900..it feels just right and the ergonomic design of the device makes u want to play with it all the time...u can feel the difference immediately.. the only flaw is..its runs out of juice quite fast..since its running on a 1.2 ghz processor..1200mah seems not enough for this awesome machine..wonder if RIM will come out with a 1500mah or 1850mah power pack soon..
this bold in general is the best if you want social or business, as the keyboard is AMAZING, the screen is very responsive and totally worth it but watch out for the battery life so bring a charger or extra battery with you thats what i would advise but i got one and it was really worth my money for it.
I've got to say, I love your enthusiasm in the review, nobody who reviewed the bold 9900 was this good. most likely because they were iPhone or android fanbois.
Hi.i have had same as 9900 bold but.i fortunately not working wifi and database .. right now I am using as a phone calling only..I love it and my sister in low she gifted me 6years before till I am using ...if you can solve this problem .not connecting wifi
Hi, great video :) My question is how is the battery life? Apparently the first batch of the 9900's had crap batteries and people were charging them twice a day, some update was supposed to fix them but I read the newer ones (black and the new white) are lasting 2-3 days on a full charge. Please let me know :) Thank you!
I still have this phone! it's obviously not my daily user. But I have given myself a challenge to use this phone for 2 weeks nonstop. Check my results and opinions back here.
for bold user or bb users. I have a question. instead of literally pulling out the battery to do the "reset", there's an app called quickpull. is it safe to install to our blackberry devices?or is it a safe app?
does the 9900 have Touch-sensitive controls underneath the screen? meaning call button, bb button, back & call end ones.. i checked & a lot of websites says they do. but none of the reviews say it does... if it does please say that also
Hi Kevin, I've lost the date, time and battery life at the top of my screen above the search bar. I've searched everywhere online and in my phone and can't figure out how to get it back. Can you help me?
I just ordered this on O2, I'm in the UK. I'm a Blackberry virgin after many iPhone's! I hope I have made the right choice. Can I put an SD card in this for extra memory, I missed it if he said in this?
i know :/ me too. i wanted one but everyone keeps saying that the battery is very horible, and pic taking up close is blurry. and crashes, idk what to do now :/

I am a teen, never had a blackberry before, should I go for this one or not? Need it for browsing, texting, and all the stuff teens do! ;) Need opinions from people who have had it for quite awhile..
It's 2019 and I ordered one to stay away from smartphone
It’s still a smartphone. 🙃
I plained to do this too
Did it help?
@@waseemsells5378 but it cant do anything it cant connect to the internet and theres no apps for it

+Larry R about to do the same thing. What's your impression now you've switched?
Larry it's 2018, what's your device now? ;-)
I got one of these because I can't stand touchscreen phones. And the abysmal battery life of most smartphones is a joke.
***** Usually 4-5 days
+Dave McKagan how do you get 4 to 5 days ???
+Teck Wai Get one of those charging docks that uses the terminals at the bottom. Adds an extra couple of days.
I juz got one second hand for free, the battery can barely last one full day
+Teck Wai Sounds like your battery is too old. Get a new one.

I was tempted by the Bold 9900 but I went with the Classic, so far, so good.

I just time traveled 10 years back and found this

I wanted one so bad as an 11 year old but these were expensive
What a throwback. I remember being excited about this phone lol
ordered 12 years ago, it just arrived! configuring it now

I love CrackBerry's unboxings & reviews
Shall definitely be purchasing my bold soon. But please help me out, WHITE OR BLACK? I can't decide!!!

Daniel Salm does it still have bis?
I'm shopping for one hope to find in prestigious conditions
I cannot wait until Christmas! I'm probably getting one!
Did you get it?

Almost 2021 and buying!.
I want this phone so badly. If money weren't a problem I'd get this straight up. No thinking, no BS. Just going to the store and getting it.
Indeed, BUT!
Will it blend?
is the keyboard touch sensitive aswell or is it like the normal blackberry keyboard but a different shape?
the day you uploaded this video i bought this fone :)
i have a curve 8900 for about 2 1/2 yrs and need an upgrade would you say the bold is the best for a business phone?
it is still worth it to buy a Bold 9900 in 2016 ? (I found this phone so gorgeous)
same here.. wondering if its still worth it
slim kaijalun lhouvum currently in the UK they're going for £40 and lower (on eBay). In my opinion it is worth to buy.

Worth it if you can find a replacement battery :)
@jodyderuiter it has a track button for precision; those moments where you wish you were on a PC with a mouse. Have you used it before?
Had mine for a weeks now, LOVE It.
what's the difference between the 9900 and 9930? or are they really the same thing
A lot of people are saying that 9900 does not have a very good batter life? Like half a day's worth?
does the 9900 have Touch-sensitive controls underneath the screen? meaning call button, bb button, back & call end ones.. i checked & a lot of websites says they do. but none of the reviews say it does... if it does please say that also
Hi Kevin, I've lost the date, time and battery life at the top of my screen above the search bar.

Whatsapp gonna end their support to BlackBerry by the end of 2016. Is there any way to install it to bold after that?
I've got the Blackberry Bold 9900 for my work/business purposes. Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!
hey Kevin i heard from an another video that "BlackBerry 7 will not support any other BlackBerries, including Torch"..... what does that mean exactly?
Does this BlackBerry Bolt uses battery of the same details like this? BlackBerry C E MH29634. BAT-44582-003D BT MAC3486 1F?
I was wondering if this was going to be sold on verizion? If so how much is it going to cost.
@PMJS15 do u mean the LED coverage indicator? go to options > screen display > uncheck the LED coverage indicator..
When is the 9930 coming out? And can you compare it to the 9650.
i know :/ me too. i wanted one but everyone keeps saying that the battery is very horible, and pic taking up close is blurry. and crashes, idk what to do now :/
How did you get the battery door off so fast? It takes me like 30 seconds with a paper clio. It's so hard to get off.
ok so the only downsides are: no auto focus, and a less powerful battery.... i can work with that. i'm loving this. CANNOT wait to get one

You should demonstrate wikitude in camera view and how you can talk to your social contacts while gaming! Its really cool
fancy, but will it blend?

have you tried upgrading it from your computer?
im tining of getting this but not sure because theres no auto focus, is it a massive flaw or not?
Can you "Turn Off" the touchscreen and just have a traditional Blackberry?
I updated by 9900 from OS6 to OS7.1 and it seems that the phone takes forever to power on.. On noticing closely, I noted that it takes around 17-20 minutes to start. What could possibly the reason behind this? Note that my phone's app memory isn't even full, just over half of it is free. The 1GB phone memory is almost free, too.
How can I go about fixing this?
i wanna get this phone, but have a question: should the switch to QNX based OS make me want to wait for the new generation of handsets? will the switch to QNX render the 9900 outdated and useless if i buy it right now?
your reviews are awesome
Should I buy bold or torch
how does this device function as a music player? which program do you use to sync your content? one of the few reasons why i should get an iphone is the built in ipod.
thanks
I've just bought this device in 2019 !!
If you're getting it now, I'd get this one, then when your contract runs out, or if you get it a bit before it ends, the blackberry 10's would of come out and have lowered a bit in price. I just got this in white:)
should i get this phone or should i wait for the release of the new blackberry 10 devices?? :O
When is the release date and HOW MUCH?
im getting this phone next week but my only question (doesnt change on me getting it) but how come they had to sacriface a AF camera when there are devices out thinner that have a AF camera just curious? Thanks Mike
this is the best blackberry they have made so far and i dont think they will make one much better than it!!! x
any idea when the white color of the phone will be available?!
I am aware of the weak battery life in this device and I'm tired of it. If i wanted to change the battery for this device so the battery will last longer, which type of battery should i replace it with???????
I am a teen, never had a blackberry before, should I go for this one or not? Need it for browsing, texting, and all the stuff teens do! ;) Need opinions from people who have had it for quite awhile..
Should i get the blackbery curve 9360 (which cost 70 bucks ). or get the bold 9900 ( which costs 300) -.-
got this phone 3 weeks now, its amazing!
what is the difference between auto focus and continuous focus?
Hey kevin i have a question.... Do u know if this phone the blackberry 9900 is going to be on sprint? Please reply back...
How is the battery on the latest fw, any does it at least last up to 8 hours before needing charge again?
Managing panels, hopefully they have that in OS6 as well.
