I like that they didn’t try to make the cgi extra good because then it wouldn’t look like the original video game source, like it blends video game into live action pretty well
I highly doubt that’s why the CGI looks so bad 😂

the budget for the movie was only 50mil, and the CGI was good for that amount. Some of you are just too picky
The cgi looked decent to me tbh. As a filmmaker, without looking for it and just trying to enjoy the movie, nothing stood out the brought me out if the belief.

Dude. I had tons of fun. It got my wife to sit down and watch it. Glad they did their own thing and not just a copy of the latest games. OG Shang Tsung still the best. Tons of Easter eggs for the fans. They even had moves written in graffiti
i did like that the guy who played Shang Tsung in this movie definitely tried to emulate him from the '95 movie while giving his own twist.

I mean yes some of the fights were pretty good especially the scorpion ones but most of the other fights were pretty meh, and the story was just bland and boring and quite insulting for the fans of mortal kombat who love the original story, when the first act ended and them moved onto the second act that's when it went downhill, I could go on and rant of why this film is just average, forgettable and I will most likely never see this again but that would be an entire days worth of talking about a mediocre shit film that could've been a really good film if it just stuck to the source material or find new and creative ways to branch off and not completely ignore so much lore that the game have already produced, I mean this literally an easy story to create that could be good but I guess they wanted to do something that was new, anyway like I said I'm not going on a rant anymore because ain't nobody got time for dat

It’s not a perfect movie, but it’s fun. Especially as a Mortal Kombat fan, it’s cool to see all those characters onscreen using their video game powers, just like the video game. Sure, the plot is kinda lackluster and the ending is a bit rushed, but it’s an enjoyable movie

Whenever cole said he was from south side of Chicago our whole theater clapped and cheered cause i live in Chicago lmao. Also almost every Kano joke hit and our theater was dying of laughter

This is one of the movies we owe to ourselves to just sit back, enjoy, and not think too hard about things. Just appreciate there's something great to watch and munch popcorn to, which is the same experience I had with Godzilla vs Kong. I've been a fan of the original film series' aesthetics, and I really enjoyed this one for what it was. I also loved Ludi Lin's work in it, so I really hope they'll give Liu Kang some more love in the next film. Same with finally including Johnny, since he's always been my favorite.

I wish the fight choreographers of those movies by Joe Taslim and Iko Uwais directed the fight scenes of the film. The quick cuts are disappointing to say the least and does not give my guy Joe Taslim justice.

I thoroughly enjoyed Mortal Kombat. It delivered the hits and finishes that make the game fun.
Also Joe Taslim is amazballs! He's one of my favorite things about the show Warrior, it's phenomenal!

Ludi Lin did a great job with his character (with the little screen time he was given). To me, Liu Kang and Kung Lao were the best thing in this entire movie, great duo, they should've focused more on their characters. Instead, we wasted time with Cole, the weakest character ever.

@@puppylover4865 Probably I’m a little biased because Liu Kang has always been my favorite, so putting him aside to give this random dude screen time was weird to me. But I might’ve accepted him if he was a well-written and well-acted character. Instead he came out as the weakest one of the entire movie, he could’ve died and I couldn’t care less. They should bring back Kung Lao e kill off Cole.

Honestly I see Johnny Cage as a Ryan Renolds type - cause the mouth a charisma is the best part of the character IMO
Im kind of a mixed bag on that. I feel like his brand of humor would feel slightly out of place.

Kano jumping to avoid the leg sweep was perfect haha. I hope the sequel gets some veteran writing help and maybe a bigger budget. I think it has a lot of potential to be a great film universe.
Chris Evans can be Johnny cage. He would have to carry his body differently than captain America and more cocky than his human torch character.
He’d need to channel Jake from not another teen movie
I feel like this movie is getting so much hate. Yeah it is not oscar worthy but did any of us really expect that? It delivered on what I wanted, crazy gruesome actions scene and some cool MK easter eggs. I really do hope they improve Cole for the sequel because he and his family were by far the weakest parts of this movie. Overall 7/10. Look forward to the future.

I will say what I want about the original. It was way too cheesy, treated important characters like scorpion and subzero like one-off goons, and had questionable performances. This movie respects the games in a way that the original never did. Too many people have rose colored glasses on. Dimensions to the characters? Gimme a break
The whole point of this movie is that (spoilers spoilers spoilers) the outworld villains were trying to cheat the tournament to take earth. They’ll for sure have a tournament in the next one.

If I had a choice between the entire original movie and the scorpion and sub scenes in the new one I’d take the latter in a heartbeat. Taking nostalgia out of the equation, are you seriously gonna tell me that sub getting killed by a bucket of water isn’t the dumbest shit you’ve ever seen?

I had fun with it but even after two viewings I'm still astounded at the characters they chose to kill off so early especially with this being a pre-movie.

Here's what I would've done with Mortal Kombat.....
First movie is the history of the Shia Riayu and Lin Quei and their wars and rivalry with one another. At the end of the movie the Lin Quei Grandmaster Sub-Zero kills Hanzo Hasashi's family and Hanzo himself. We realize at the very end that Sub-Zero was working for Shang Tsung the entire time. After credits scene we see Scorpion in hell vowing to one day get his revenge on Sub-Zero.
Next movie we're in modern times with Sonya and Jax. They're on a mission to take out the Black Dragon gang and in the process they capture Kano and horribly burn and disfigure Kabal. Shang Tsung appears before Kabal and asks him to fight for Outworld and he'll save him. After Sonya and Jax finish their Black Dragon mission, they're on their way back with Kano when they're told that in China, a group of assassin's called the Lin Quei are kidnapping and killing people and they don't know why. So they go to China to stop them. Kano is still with them. They break in to the Lin Quei hideout to see that they are experimenting on people to turn them into Cyborgs. After seeing that, they try to call for backup but they are ambushed by Cyrax and Sector. They are captured and taken to the Grandmaster which we learn is STILL Sub-Zero from the first movie. Before Sub-Zero can kill them, Lui Kang and Kung Lao show up to help them escape. During the battle Jax loses his arms and Kano loses his eye. They manage to escape but Kano is left behind. Lui Kang and Kung Lao explain what's going on, who they are, and that they were sent by Raiden to save them because they're needed. Back at the Lin Quei, Shang Tsung appears with Kabal in his new equipment and yells at Sub-Zero for failing him. Tsung warns Sub-Zero that it is by his power that he's still alive after all these centuries and that Zero's failure is going to make Tsung look bad to the Emperor of Outworld. They see Kano and offer him the same deal as Kabal. Fight for Outworld and they'll save him. Back with the heroes, they arrive at Raiden's Sky Temple and he explains the history of Mortal Kombat, Outworld, all of it. Raiden explains that there are more fighters that need to be found and that Shang Tsung is trying to cripple Earth's forces for an easy victory in the tournament. He tells Sonya that Jax is going to die unless they do something. He uses his power to stabilize Jax but it won't last forever. Lui Kang and Kung Lao go to find other characters such as Nightwolf, Johnny Cage, Striker, etc. Sonya goes back to the Lin Quei to get some of their tech to save Jax. She's sneaking around when she comes up on Kano, but now he has his robotic eye. She puts up a fight but is out numbered and caught. At this point, she's about to be killed by Sub-Zero but Sub-Zero's younger brother, the good one, steps in and begs his brother to stop. Throughout the movie it's been hinted at and shown that the younger Sub-Zero doesn't approve of his older brother's evil ways. They fight and the elder Sub-Zero gives his younger brother that scar he has. He's about to kill him when the younger Sub-Zero tells his older brother that he thought this day would come and that right before he stopped the Elder Sub-Zero from killing Sonya, he summoned the only thing Elder Sub-Zero fears. Scorpion finally re-appears for his vengeance against Elder Sub-Zero. With Elder Sub-Zero and the rest of the Lin Quei distracted, the younger Sub-Zero helps Sonya, they get the tech, and leave. Scorpion and Sub-Zero fight (this is the huge third act mega fight), but Scorpion is out numbered as Cyrax and Sector interfere. Scorpion leaves warning that he will see Sub-Zero at the tournament where nobody will be able to interfere. Sonya and young Sub-Zero go back to Raiden's temple and operate on Jax giving him his arms. Raiden uses his power to energize Jax's new arms and bind them to him. We end the movie with Lui Kang finding Johnny Cage and Kung Lao finding Nightwolf. After the credits we see Shang Tsung on his knees bowing before Shou Khan and his thrown in OutWorld. Shou Khan warns Shang Tsung not to fail him in this last tournament or Shang Tsung will be the one to lose his soul. Shang Tsung says he won't fail his master and behind him we see Goro, Mileena, Kitana, Reptile and the rest of Outworld's fighters.
The third movie would of course be the actual tournament. Kitana would switch sides somewhere along the line of course. Tell me that this wouldn't be awesome.
Ermac, Smoke, Jax, in that order. Jax's magic cybernetics were goofy but I have nothing to complain about.
I'm willing to give the 2nd one a chance if it's given a PROPER chance. There's potential with this series if they are willing to take the risk.

@@adamplentl5588 ye but with venom they kinda stuck with the source material but with this one they kinda ruined the amazing story that they already had set up for them to do already, look I'm one for goofy and fun action films but most of the time it just felt like they didnt know where to go with the film and by the second act just started to get a bit boring and bland, I mean I could go on about how they messed up with alot of thing in this film but that would be a whole essay 😂
Okay but how can we overlook the soundtrack not spamming the freaking Mortal Kombat song! They played it for like 3 seconds in the credits.

I love your vids, my only concern is my critics and reviews talk about the script and character development. And I think if we keep complaining the movies might not all be made. Like I knew it was an action fun time movie. Nothing expecting to change my life. It was a nice break from all the serious movies and conversations happening during covid.

I really didn’t mind them creating a new character as vehicle for people unfamiliar with the MK universe, so that people can dump lore and exposition on, and as a means to give people someone to ‘relate’ to.
But they handled it pretty terribly. Not only was he wholly uninteresting, but so was everything involving him. Even his “arcana” was shit. He got some fake black panther Vibranium suit? Shite.
I also think they should have limited the scope to match the resources. The whole movie feels a little rushed and under-developed because they didn’t really have the budget. And I don’t mean the story or characters (that goes without saying), I mean the structure and rushed feeling to the action and pacing.

I watched it with friends and tbh it was so fun, having us all be fans and geek out together was just an awesome experience. It’s perfect don’t get me wrong but it’s super fun in my opinion
I loved that this was pre-tournament and had such a great time watching it! I think parasite was the last movie that had my attention the entire time lol can’t wait for the other two movies
As a little girl I remember when MK2 came out I automatically became a big fan of kitana and I was a little sad she was not in this movie but I hope if they do make any sequels that she will show up. I just looked at the cast b4 watching this video and I cannot believe I didn't recognize the actor who played Sub-Zero or the guy who played Kano who was on House of Lies with Don Cheadle. Even the guy who played Raiden was in Ichi the killer as the sadistic killer of the Yakuza.

We don’t need any big name actors. This movie deserves to have newer actors. Only familiar faces I wanna see are cameos from the old cast, but that’s it. Helps keep things fresh in my opinion.
As far as Johnny Cage Jean-Claude Van Damme would be dope.

No they weren't. There were really only two actual fight scenes in the movie. And both were the Scorpion fights. Outside of those fights the choreography was nonexistent.

The main thing the movie had going for it was the nostalgia for the franchise, its was obviously for fans who knew mk universe prior to the movie. Half of the time me and and my friend were excited about “he said it he said the thing “ type moments

Personally I prefer Scott Adkins as Johnny cage because Keanu Reeves might be a bit old for the role imo

I fucking loved this movie, it was unbelievably entertaining. It was waaaay funnier than I thought it'd be
I thought it was pretty bland and boring to be honest the only actual good thing about this was the fighting but that was to be expected, much prefer the 90s version than this one
The fans of Mortal Kombat didn't want silly references and head nods. the Lore was utterly destroyed
The night comes for us is one of my favorite movie and I freaking love the raid
I personally was disappointed by the movie. There were some nice "bits" here and there, like Kano, the little fight sequence between Sub-Zero and Scorpion at the beginning and the end.
But we’re in a age of cinema now where we can make great action movies, with good CGI, good fight choreographies, good cinematography, great storytelling, and I thought that if the people involved in the making of this movie were really passionate about it, it could be very good. But it lacked all those elements in my opinion.
Plus the acting was horrible!
@@Jthall1990 I agree with you. I think Kano gave a good performance overall, and Taslim was very good by acting with his eyes. Scorpion was fine too, but he had absolutely no character development, no character arc. We don’t even know anything about the whole conflict between him and Sub-Zero...
But the other actors were really blant.
The final fight with bi-han and hanzo was great, but the rest of the film was a disappointment. That they said things like "flawless victory" was awkward. The cast was great this time, but the script was sub-par.
Favorite MK games are MK2 and MK11. Kitana stays my go-to.
I mean it was the director first movie and they had a small budget. Second if you are new watch cole if not new to mk watch just the mk character. Cause everyone story ends in a way that leads to them being their game counterpart likes looks or how liu will step up to fight to be the chosen one. How certain character are introduce by race
Was ok.. 5 out of 10, maybe a light 6. Josh Lawson as Kano was great. Scorpion vs Sub Zero was great. Anything Cole related was a huge mistake.
I feel like there was a good movie hidden there, waiting to come out. There were a few good scenes, Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Kano were good. But holy hell the pacing was awful, they all just stop halfway to lick their wounds and learn super powers and to take themselves way too seriously. Hopefully they get better writers for the sequel.

I was not interested when I first heard about it because there was no Johnny Cage, but Kano and Cage in the same movie would have been too much. Good bloody fun, I hope the third movie brings in Cassie and Jacqui.
I agree with the internet saying The Miz should play Johnny Cage. But also, they need to bring back Kung Lao cause he was better than Liu Kang in the movie. I want to see Revenant Kung Lao. He would be a beast. Plus, I am waiting on Kitana since they have, or had, Mileena. Another way they could make revenue as well is to do a prequel where they explore the backstory of Kabal and Kano. There are so many ways this can go I will be here for the ride.
I just find it odd that they had to have magic markings instead of just saying world more advanced or ancient monk training, simple, effective, and not goofy in my opinion.

I felt the best characters were Kano (Josh Lawson) for his EPIC one-liners and Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) for his numerous facial expression subtleties and combat prowess.
As much as I ADORE Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion) the director really needed a slap for having him remove his mask only to put it back on again about 3 times to say something. It looked pretty ridiculous.
Lui Kang's Animality looked awful. Looked like an unfinished pre-production fire render
Kung Lao Vs Nitara fight was pointless. She was pointless in this but Max Huang played the character GREAT! I especially loved how he wound up Kano :D
I hated Shang Tsung in this. Chin Han's portrayal of him was just so forced. I know sometimes you wana do things differently with a character when doing a remake but Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa didn't even have to try in the original. He exuded Shang Tsung's sinister, plotting side.
I feel Mortal Kombat as an IP has the potential as franchise to be on the level of something like Fast and the Furious if given the necessary budget, runtime and obviously story but don't take it overly serious but keep the core fanbase in mind because I never understood trying to do it to get new fans when it's the core fans that actually bring in new fans.

As a person who has seen this movie and went into it know nothing about the game I thought there was going to be way more fighting. I thought the fight scenes that they had were good but I just thought they would have more. I would though love to learn more about the game so I am better equipped for the next movies.

I’ve never been against warning labels on games, HOWEVER... it did restrict a LOT of creative development at the time and their reasoning was absolutely bonkers
