    A glaring problem with this movie is by the time the third act kicks in there's like 9 protagonists who you know for act aren't gonna get offed so there's absolutely NO tension at all. All the "close calls" fall completely flat.

      I only watched it about an hour ago but I'm struggling to remember if any named characters actually died besides the minor villain at the start and the main villain at the end? Two named characters. Zero good or even neutral characters.
      No main or secondary character dies. Not the right-hand man to the villain who was good all along and proved himself, not Wong in a redemption arc, not any of the old guard, not the new pilot who we grow attached to pretty quickly and is always in dangerous positions, not Owen who serves very little character purpose in this and could be a nice twist kill, not even Claire who argued with Maisie a few times and might die saving her and reminding that she really does love her. Really almost any character *could* have been killed off to service the story (except maybe the kid), but none are. No one who isn't immediately expected to die actually dies.
      Besides the main villain I don't think any dinosaurs kill anyone after the midpoint. Which is *wild*.

    As a huge Jurassic park fan I think the main problem with the last couple movies is how the dinosaurs feel put aside. In the first movie the main villains were the dinosaurs. All the characters were worried about was getting away from the dinosaurs. Sure there was nedry who was kinda the villain but he was far from the characters main worry in the movie. But in the last movie and especially this one, it feels like the characters are more worried about taking down a bad scientist and dinosaurs are just in the way a little bit. It feels more like mission impossible with dinosaurs on the side instead of people only trying to get away from dinosaurs. If you read a description of the first movie, it would say people trying to get away from dinosaurs. If you read the description of this movie it would say people trying to take down a company that is money hungry because they genetically modified locusts to be larger which will cause world hunger, oh ya and there’s dinosaurs. I think the series just has to go back to its roots.

    The whole Maisie part of the plot was confusing as hell. Wu first says that Maisie isn't a clone, but moments later states that Charlotte Lockwood used her own DNA to give birth to herself...which in the absence of other DNA, is the definition of a clone. And it's not like the writers didn't understand that virgin births are clones because Wu explains in the same scene that Blue was able to clone herself because she's part monitor lizard, an animal species that is able to clone itself in the absence of mates.
    Other than that, my biggest issue with the movie were the lack of dinosaurs. The scenes in the beginning were great with the dinosaur ranch, Owen running down and lassoing a dinosaur like it was a cow or horse, and Maisie going into town and the Apatosaurus are interrupting the work site. Also the Malta Black Market was neat...But that's really it... The final fight at the end felt like it was there just because it was required that the T-Rex be shown at leas once.
    I would have been fine with the dinosaur era locusts if they showed them as an actual threat, like, show them destroying more things instead of talking about it spreading across American and jumping continents, all in the background. Like, show them eating a town alive including the people, animals, and dinosaurs. But...nope, nothing.

    It does kind of suck which is extremely disappointing. I remember watching the original Jurassic Park in 1993 and, as a kid, being amazed at what I was seeing on the screen. As an adult, I found Dominion to be little better than a Saturday morning cartoon. The writing was poor, the acting was almost non-existent, and the structure of the story made no sense. The motivation of the main bad guy wasn't even really that clear and neither was why the original trio from the first movie was brought in. Dominion felt rushed and poorly thought out especially by the time the movie ended.

    • @annaneal5241
      @annaneal5241 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The motivation of the bad guy was to control the world’s food source (hence the locusts), and to be in control of the world’s genetic engineering industry (hence kidnapping Maisie). The original trio was brought in because Ellie was called in to assist/help resolve the locust problem with that farm, which lead to her needing evidence from Biosyn, as crops planted with their seeds were left alone by the locusts, implying that the locusts were genetically engineered to only harm non-Biosyn crops (in order to allow Biosyn to control the worlds food sources). Ellie went to Alan for help getting into Biosyn, as she knew he’d be willing to help. Ian Malcom worked at Biosyn, which brought him into the plot, and voilà, there’s the original trio.
      Honestly, I didn’t think the film was bad at all, but, for the sake of the franchise, I sincerely hope they don’t make any more, as I think dragging out (like the Star Wars franchise) would just be a waste of time and money.

      @@Bird-Birdy-Love the thing is that's what makes it so dissapointing. Even I still don't give a shit about the new characters in this World trilogy because all of them are horrendously annoying and dumb with the leads barely have any chemistry and there's no development in the two leads. Chris Pratt as Owen is likeable but his character was rather forgettable. I wouldn't even be happy if he comes back 10 years later because his character is the exactly the same. The CGI in the World trilogy that is getting better but the writing for the characters are absolutely stupid

Now that the whole world is infested with dinosaurs there is potential for a lot of dif stories but they defintly think they should move away from both the genetic ethical standards as well as the characters in question as their stories are long done. it's so fascinating how in another survival/disaster/what have you type movie, _Everest_ you already know who lives and who dies if you know your basic mountaineering history. HOWEVER the tension is so well done that you completely forget about it being based in fact and just want everyone to get off the mountain. You forget that the mountain has the final say in whether you leave, or stay for all time. They have a whole scene where the camp doc explains what the hell happens at 30,000 ft to your body. If you don't make it down....you didn't pay attention. Or your brain was too fried from lack of O to comprehend wtf is going on.
    Something like _Everest_ works where this fails, because of one thing: The tension. In this movie, you are facing literal actual dinosaurs. The scenes with them vs the humans should be intense and terrifying but the human characters are making all the wrong moves and it ruins suspension of disbelief. Meanwhile with _Everest...._ it's just you, vs the mountain. Every choice you make will result in either you living, or dying. There, it could be argued, that wrong moves were made as well that day. Perhaps. But it's easier to excuse because of the location; you're 30,000 ft in the air you are NOT. SUPPOSED. TO BE THERE. Ofc your brain is going to go haywire. So things will be tense. And that's how it should've been handled here. But it just wasn't, so you're taken out of the movie entirely.

The second half of the movie should’ve just been the whole movie in itself. There was a lack of immersion of the dinosaurs with the people which is what made the movie in 1993 so interesting. One of the things I don't like is the mentality of "Well, what you were expecting Shakespeare or Citizen Kane?!" when the reviews are making it clear this isn't good. Look, I get it, and I can actually be a person who loves "crap". I grew up with tons of low budget monster, horror, and sci-fi shlock, I love seeing movies that are so bad they're good, and I still unironically love stuff like Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Batman and Robin, and even Jurassic Park III. BUT, I still think we need a balance of learning to appreciate what we have and asking for more. And I think JP is a case where the spectrum should be more on the latter end. We have had five sequels to a good film, and if you ask me, the one that came closest to being good was the third one because it was unapologetic in being a B-Movie with a sincere heart about adventure. Ever since 2015 we have had to deal with so many of the same problems, getting all these boring characters, lifeless themes, and a refusal to engage with a more interesting idea, and even the pure entertainment angle is off because the effects themselves are usually mid at best and it's hard to care about so much if you don't think at all about what's happening to who.
    Don't evolve into a huge stick in the mud who makes those shitty clickbait rage videos whenever a new Star Wars or Masters of the Universe product comes out, BUT at the same time understand that asking for more is something that is valid and perhaps we should do more of. When a thirty-year late sequel to a mediocre 80's action film completely dominated a sequel to one of Spielberg's biggest and most successful science-fiction classics, I think we should use our collective voices to ask for more.

    I'm genuinely disappointed with the movie. It had that scary charm that the original Jurassic Park movies had, but that was it for it. The plot was horrible and what part of the trailers actually made it into the movie or was even related to the movie? They made it out to be this whole dinosaurs invading the world, interacting with humans and then they started off with shit about locusts and shoved the rest of the plot into the middle of the mountains, AWAY FROM CIVILIZATION. Like what?? And then it just felt so cheesy, skip around and bullshit. The part in Malta was okay-ish. I would've really preferred some cool scene with the Allosaurus and Carno chasing after Owen and then he makes like some great getaway somehow and then he SAFELY gets on the plane. And they have like a basic scene with them relaxing, and being like "holy shit, we got away from these two giant ass lizards", instead of this corny ass james bond bs. The prologue really set up for this bad assery scene between Rexy and the Giga, and then they just cut it with the only real build up is the single sentence "They put two apex predators in the same valley" or some bullshit. That would've made it sooooo much cooler. The part with the dimetrodons was so ass, the directors complained about time and then they just shove this group of characters in a cave for 20 minutes before they meet up with the rest of the cast. Like, I'm sorry? What was the point besides having scwawy scene. I loved the scene and the dinosaurs, but it was just so pointless dude lol. THE GIGA WAS MADE FOR SO MUCH MORE DUDE, replace that shitty 5 second scene of the Giga vs Rex and throw in the Therizino vs the Giga and watch these fuckers duel it out like in the 2nd movie between the Spino and Rex, and THEN add in an end scene with the Rex and Giga where the Rex now has a chance against an injured Giga. Speaking of the Giga, dude was 10 feet from the group and couldn't chop at least one of these dudes lmao? Or when he went after Mazy vs these 6 other dudes just watching on the ground lmao, like tf? The overall plot through the movies should of been "life finds a way." Using the same formulas and ideas isnt always the best, especially when you have a great topic like the resurrection of extinct animals. You can easily portray that theme in several genres that have the same world but a different perspective and feel. The only movies i think are fine as is are 1 2 and 4.
    jp3 should of been from the point of the view of the child lost on the island, and more of a survival thriller.
    fallen kingdom should of been on island the entire movie, with the escape from the eruption near the end. The could of even kept the mazy plot when you think of it as a tragic stricken geneticist that cloned his daughter.
    dominion should of been a dino hunter movie when they try and track down all the dinos they imported from from fallen kingdom, and ones stolen from site b. Until they find some genetically mutated hybrids like the endo raptor that makes the wrangling much more difficult. you could still include ellie, ian, and grant as head of the search teams or consultants.

    There were so many action sequences where.. well, they cut out the "impact" of action scenes. One moment is a truck flipping down the street, the next it's sliding on it's side into a building. One moment a character is an inch from death, in the next shot they're magically safe because they jumped or were yanked to safety out of frame. One moment they need to get 6 people up a 30 foot ladder to escape the not-a-tyrannosaurus-flex because it's about to eat them all, but in the next shot... everyone made it up the ladder, and the inconsistentosaurus rex is still just standing there, waiting to eat them. They were out in the open, and just.. one moment everyone's in danger, the next moment they're safe. With no explanation as to how they got there.
    The actors are also blind beyond 5 feet. Long subway tunnel with only one exit? One moment there's nothing there, the next moment there's a 20 foot tall dinosaur that just appears out of nowhere. Where was he 2 seconds ago? Why didn't he make any noise? How did he get in here?
    One moment Claire is telling Maisie that it's too dangerous too far from the house because the entire world is looking for her, the next moment she forgets all this and lets her leave the house without giving it a second thought.
    There's just so many of these plotholes that I just can't wait to see the hour long CinemaSins video on this movie.

      Well Jurassic Park is an all time favourite, it's a classic. So it's not wrong that people expected it to be as close as what Spielberg brought to this franchise in the first place. And it's very dissapointing that the sequels took a nose down and there hasn't been a continuation that is as good as the first. If you turn your brain off you might enjoy the movie but if you turn your brain on, it's absolutely pointless to think about the movie since this new trilogy doesn't make sense and it kinda ruined the continuety of the OG trilogy

    Jurassic Park is one of my favorite movies of all time. I went into this one with low expectations after JW and Fallen Kingdom falling short of what I wanted, and it was still a let down. I just wanted to see two things, humans having to deal with dinosaurs as an invasive species and Henry getting his comeuppance, neither of which happened.
    Putting the dinosaurs in a sanctuary in the mountains was essentially creating another island, hence having to fabricate some contrived reason for getting all of our main characters into the same place, which is the one thing I thought we were getting away from, and Henry getting to be the “hero” was honestly obnoxious. I love BD Wong, but his character deserved a death by dino rather than this sad sack who basically sees the errors of his ways and whose earned death was given to a character reintroduced after nearly 30 years that nobody actually cares about.

    I loved the second half of the movie it hit all the right notes for a JP movie. There were so many perfect little touches and our old cast finally got screen time. Datson even got his can of cream to name one. When the movie ended it felt like it was set up for the next movie, the lost world. Dinosaurs in a lost valley! We even saw the dino from the 1960s cover. I think the ending was atleast a nod to spielberg who originally wanted to the first JP to be a nod to the original lost world movie. If only the ending left us with a john hammond outro from JP: lost world that life finds a way.

    It was such a huge disappointment. I love dinosaurs and I love Chris Pratt, but neither the dinosaurs nor Chris Pratt was used in a good way. Chris Pratt’s character was witty, strong, and cool. In Dominion, his character was barely used. Blue was the cool velociraptor. In Dominion, she did nothing. There was nothing good about how in Dominion, both these awesome characters were dumbed down to nothing more than side pieces sitting on the bench.
    It really annoyed me that there were no explanations for all the new dinosaurs, and that hundreds more is on the mainland somehow. The cgi was pretty bad in some places. Why was the big bird chasing Claire blind? How was Claire able to outrun the dinosaur in Malta and yet, that same dinosaur was right behind her in a car chase where the car was probably going 80mph. It’s a pile of crap.
    Fans could’ve probably written a better ending to the series, much like how fans wrote a better ending to Game of Thrones. Yes, Dominion is THAT disappointing.

    • @VANCEYMO
      @VANCEYMO 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i mean. if you watched the raptors actually running, they struggled to get to claire because they were slipping on the roofs and dusty surfaces. brick roads are unsurprisingly not slippery, so its no wonder they could run faster there. the car also was most DEFINITELY not going 80mph. 45 at most. i think you're looking at it the wrong way. its not a "new" story, its more of a tribute to the steven spielberg 1993 version, as well as a way to put an final end on what happens to all of the dinosaurs. if you were a fan, you'd have noticed the countless little easter eggs that either were salutes to the original trilogy or conclusions to the loose ends left behind.

Would rate JP 2 higher if it didn't have an extra hour of run time of a trex going wild in san diego; just makes the movie too long. Never got the hate for JW 2, I thought all the dinosaur scenes were neat and can understand how people very closely entwined and heavily biased would have trouble killing dinosaurs for the sake of ecological preservation(noone knows their responsible for that). JW 3's plot is all over the place with people teleporting from one scene to the next. The dinosaur scenes are hit or miss with the Giganotosaurus doing basically nothing besides people saying it's "The biggest land carnivore" 50 times. Which leads to another thing, there is only 1 death if we don't count the raptor city scene. The only good thing in the movie is the old characters' banter.
