The comment about there being no more Honduran Mahogany spurred on great conversation with my son this morning while waiting on the bus. Good job guys.

Outstanding video as always. I tell everyone to watch....from the keel pour. That's what hooked me. I knew I had to watch these two guys put all their smarts and energy to work on something wondrous. I saw the talent and ingenuity right off and I'm so glad I did! Carolyn, you're such an asset that's it would take a page for me to put that into words. Please keep explaining and teaching! That's what drew me to the project. Tell Alix he's missed and we think about him. Take care and see you next week!
Let’s hope not and do our best, which would not be personal activism, but a collective demand that things change on a bigger level with how forests are managed and protected. Thanks for watching, and as EB White said, keep winding the clock.
I would say that every piece of that mahogany you don't use you could easily sell. From knife handles to wood turning pieces and even carvings, people would love to get their hands on it.
Looking forward to watching bulkheads and panneling being varnished one board at a time, that is craftsmanship and attention to detail at it's finest. The outside "heavy" work on the hull is an art form in it's own right. Now the joy of crating a funcional yet comfortable living and work space that is also pleasing to the eye.
I love this channel. I think it's such a treat to one day be able to see Arabella on the water. But things would never be great without all these personalities, Steve, Akiva and... that other guy, plus all the others.
Gorgeous wood, and literally irreplaceable. If I had to choose which piece I wanted to use how and where, I think I would descend into total paralysis.
Being an avid wood worker I love watching all of you working. I can see your patients and how you really think things out prior to making your decisions
I chuckled when Ben said next weeks bonus video would be Steve applying finish. I thought "Its going to be like watching paint dry". But the figure of the wood that comes out when finished will be art. Thanks in advance, steve
I just sat down to watch this video, and now the credits are rolling and I'm stuck with cold coffee again. It's crazy!! But I did catch those intricate guitar chords and progression. Well done, sir!!!
SO EXCITING!!! I love the look. Since I am a process nerd, I really like the videos where you talk about what you are doing and why. However, other people prefer the quiet ASMR aspect of woodworking. Even though I like to learn the what and why, I really appreciate the hard work you all do to appeal to all your fans. It is noticed and valued by us even if we don't all like the same things. I will be watching the bonus video because Ben does ASMR better than anyone.!
Dear Arabellas Acorns. 👍👌👏 Very well done again and as always (video and work). The conglomerate interior wood design will look absolutely marvelous and will definitely be unique. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all of you.
Such beautiful wood! Also, nice "roll and tip" at the end there. When I first started working on my own boat I remember being told about that method and thinking "Meh... extra work... seems like it wouldn't make much difference". I was so wrong. Neither rolling alone nor brushing alone creates a nice smooth finish like that method does. Some people swear by using pricey, fancy brushes (badger hair, etc.), but I also use those disposable foam ones. Cheap, plentiful, and just chuck them instead of spending too much time maintaining fancy brushes.
Man, the ray-fleck in that oak really stands out with that first coat of finish. Beautiful job on the 1st bulk-head, so far. "She's really starting to look like a boat" 😉. So much heart and love going into the details. Great mind set on, "If it fails in the future, I can just put on some more epoxy or a nail or screw. This won't sink the boat.".
Steve great job on the start of all the finish wood work. Highly recommend that you pocket screw all your door opening, then set them and glue down. It will save you time and clamps.
I was almost expecting party poppers for the first bit of mahogany trim fixed. I love the progress. Thank you for another wonderful Friday night timeout.
Hi Team Acorn to Arabella Wow! Thanks for these videos. My family and I are in a precarious position after becoming redundant at South Africa’s national airline and your videos and a number of other bloggers videos give me hope for the future. They are food for the soul and give hope for future dreams to become to reality. I’ve never been on a wooden yacht or vessel and I’ve only been on the water a handful of times. A number of colleagues and friends have told me of their experience and adventures and I’ve always been very interested in sailing, but have had little time to pursue it, as my main focus has always been my life’s passion of aviation. However, having watched movies like White Squall, Master and Commander and Das Boot, I can certainly imagine what it will be like on your vessel. I recall the sounds on Master and Commander, of the ship’s creak and groan as it rode the rise and fall of the swells. This I’m sure will be one of the memorable things that you will experience aboard your own vessel Acorn to Arabella, Godspeed and Good Luck. Thank you and keep up the great work Kind Regards Donovan and Family Waite
All the best to you and your family! There are a great many ways to get on the water, and if you have time and interest, there may be a boatbuilding school or a tallship you can volunteer for in exchange for time aboard. There’s a great maritime community, for example, in Cape Town, though I don’t know how far away you are from there. Visit maritime museums, at least, for a taste of what might be possible. People there are often involved with exciting things on the water and would love to get you out there. Thanks so much for watching!
I do some quite delicate electronics installs for a shop, pretty used to doing it all. Then they decided to film my work for a commercial of sorts. Everything became much harder to do without slips. Watching Steve foam brush reminded me of what that felt like, you can’t make even the slightest misstep or you will have it immortalized in video.

Happy Friday guys and gal! We took you kayaking again this week. My almost 80 year old aunt came up from Georgia. So my mom and both her sisters my daughter and granddaughter and I went to Canadice lake. Everyone had a great time even though my aunt Brenda got a little nauseous and needed a break. So we stopped at a little beachy spot where she got out and stretched a little. Then getting back in her kayak she slipped and flipped her boat and fell in the water. Which actually turned out to be a good thing as she felt much better after she cooled down. The funny thing was as she stood on the bank before she fell in she announced that this was probably her first and last time doing this. Then she got soaked. In spite of it all we had a great time together.
Steve, the going rate for chunks of air dried cherry on Ebay is $29 for a large flat rate box. save your cut offs I bet the maple sells too. anything you can smoke with
Dear Bob D. 👍👌👏 Exactly what I thought instantly too. At least nearly any wood can be used as firewood for heating purposes or camp fires. That's what I always think when wood is wasted (like for instance in videos from Andrew Camarata, Bus Grease Monkey etc.p.p.. They burn(ed) complete trees and chunks of trees without thinking). That mahogany off Victoria is absolutely gorgeous as is that first piece of bulkhead. I'm excited for you all. Onto another thing though. I was giving this a little bit of thought after watching the video of you cutting that tree down, and with other trees right next to the boathouse but also the real danger for fires and as shown here also storms, have you insured the boat for the duration of the build process and if so, how would an insurance company go about assessing what the value of the boat is? Cheers.
Great question. I posed the exact same thing a few months ago. Apparently it's very difficult to insure a wooden boat. And I believe during the build it falls under their homeowner's insurance. Anything can be insured, and this might fall under the category of an Agreed-Upon Value between Arabella and the Ins. Co.
The epoxy is so neat, 'self mixing'! The varnished oak is stunning. Nice job tipping off Caroline and prep by Steve.
