    I just bought the same case and it is a great idea. These cost $15 to $ 10 (if on a sale). Harbor Freight and several other companies sell these. The foam has PRECUT small squares that make it easy size. Looks professional too.

    Thanks Manuel for stressing the importance of emergency communications. I am putting together a similar setup, especially during this time that we get 8 hours of loadshedding every day due to insufficient electric power generation and nit knowing what is next. I am using a small 12 volt rechargeble battery assisted by a small PV cell for charging. My connector on the battery not only feeds the Tru SDX but is also fitted with a small LED and a 5 volt regulator feeding the small amplified speaker. Sorry for the long message but your inspiration sparked the sharing. ZS1DBJ.

      Feedback is always wanted and appreciated ! For long term storage, I feel that a rechargable battery is not the best choice, because of usually high self discharge rates. In Best case, you need to have sunlight and recharge before first use. That´s hours of time lost in case of an emergency. In worst case, it is deeply discharged and cannot be recovered. However: At home I´m running Solar Panels, LiFePo4 Cells and an Inverter as well for emergency power supply. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN

    Best to make sure that AA battery case actually works. I have one and I found
    that I had to "adjust" the + contact on the top right hand battery position because
    it wouldn't make contact with the battery's terminal!
    Thanks for all your contributions to amateur radio. This video is just one more
    example of how you help! 73.

    In addition to my (tr)uSDX in my bug-out case I have 2 Baofengs, and a TYT VHF/UHF HT that can be set up for cross-band repeater use. I also keep in the car a relatively small, lightweight but strong 35 Watt PV panel with a plexiglass faceplate from a decommissioned Great Lakes buoy, and a charger for most different sizes of batteries and cellphones. I also tossed in some adjustable step-up and step-down voltage and current power modules that can power most anything that draws less than 5 or 6 amps. There is a multimeter, a small soldering pencil and connectors. I have enough stuff in it that it is on the heavy side for carrying around, so it's the 'car box'. I have a cloth shopping bag as a carry-around for specific items from the box. The bag has long enough fabric handles to use as a shoulder bag for hiking distances with. I've added small, solar-powered LED lights to the box, too, the kind people stick in the ground along their sidewalks for nightlights. I figure they are the perfect, cheap emergency light source. Overall, the system will provide light, HF, VHF, and UHF, (with a cross/band repeater, communications, as well as a power source for as long as the batteries can be recharged, or till the small charger modules die - at least a decade, or even much longer.
    What I don't have is instructions for using the gear, and a list of essential frequencies. Duh. That's a brilliant idea, and it weighs almost nothing, and takes up almost no space, but is essential information for anyone but me. I will not only include it, it may run for 2 or 3 pages. I think I will also print it up in 2 or 3 languages, as well. Thank you for that brilliant addition, Manuel. Your posts are always content heavy, and on the Internet, content is king.

      That sounds quite "advanced". Perfect. But for long term storage, I feel that a rechargable battery is not the best choice, because of usually high self discharge rates. Love this video! Thanks so much; I'm just putting together a (tr)uSDX bug out bag haha. Peeps should watch it to hear about reasons and more context, but for my own reference (and grouped roughly by concept):
    * A marked waterproof case
    * Frequency guide + emergency comms protocols reminder
    * 5m of RG174 coax
    * 80/50/40/20/15/10/etc. EHFW
    * Twine/string for antenna rigging
    * (tr)uSDX radio (surprise!)
    * 8x AA to 12v adapter pre-populated with lithium AA's
    * Baofeng HT UHF/VHF with local/regional repeaters/freqs preprogrammed
    * Rubber duck antenna for HT
    * Baofeng AA battery adapter (6x AAA usable as Baofeng power source)
    * Energizer lithium AAs
    * K6ARK iambic paddle + cable
    * SMA to BNC adapter (as preinstalled on (tr)uSDX)
    * Golf pencil
    * Silica gel for excess moisture
    * Not contained but mentioned: earbuds

    • @dl2man
      @dl2man  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Add a K6ARK Mic to that (printed and added yesterday after the Video). It shares the same 3,5mm Cable as the Paddle, is tiny and costs next to nothing. And it prevebts you from always needing to hold the (tr)uSDX in your hand whle speaking. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN

    Thank you! I'd also add water resistant paper (because of sweat, tears, blood, rain) and a pencil. Especially when one is stressed out, it's hard to remember details. With turning on the radio one is likely to be drownend in information, so writing it down helps a lot to be more focused when being in an emergency.

    You need a power connector to a car battery, preferably large red/black spring clamps. In an emergency you will always be able to tap a car somewhere. You could also put a small solar array, 5V, to charge USB devices, mounted on the case. That way it takes no inside room.

    That is a very nice set-up, I am especially interested in the antenna and will probably try my hands with one of those later this spring and may very well end up with one of the sanctioned uSDX sets from PRC as well. Is the antennay "just" for QRP sets or is it feasable to be used with a 100 watt Transevier as well? . If I may offer a couple of suggestions, I would probably have added a proper whistle (non-pea type) and a focused beam flashlight to the kit. Both offer signalling and communication possibilities.

    • @dl2man
      @dl2man  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jens, telling the Developer, that you will purchase a chinese clone of his work is not the nicest move.... The 140 core Version of the Antenna can handle 100W. The 114 Core Version should be used with 10-25W max. Regarding your suggestions: Whistle and Torch/Headlamp are in the Standard Kit. This is just my communications box, which can be integrated in the standard kit, if needed. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN

    • @JensMHA
      @JensMHA ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dl2man, I was thinking about the sanctioned set, as described on your homepage, with Sunny something as a contact person? I am not supporting intellectual property theft, so if the sanction of that set is removed, please say so. Good to hear about the standard kit, I didnt pick up that you had one, and people prep in so many ways that I dont assume anything in that field anymore. DE73, LA3EMA 👍

    • @dl2man
      @dl2man  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JensMHA HI Jens, this was a classical mis-understanding because of language barrier.... When you talked about sanction, I understood the following definition: "a threatened penalty for disobeying a law or rule."You meant the other definition of that word, which I was not aware of: "official permission or approval for an action". So sorry for that mis-understanding. Buying from Sunny is still fine and fully supported. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN

    • @AusProbiz
      @AusProbiz ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dl2man I also misunderstood it -- English is the "Devil's language" due to its ambiguity, and the reason that legal English documents are so long-winded as they need to use so many words and sentences to narrow things down! I've never understood why sanctioned has opposite meanings.

    • @dl2man

      No it is not and will not be compatible to any cell phone. The whole idea about this, is to have some kind of communication if the Cell-Networks are down. Batteries should be changed after 15-20 years (or after having used them). 73 Manuel; DL2MAN

    Merry Christmas everyone. With Mr Putin in all of his lunacy lately would it make sense to EMP proof your bug out box? If nothing else possibly wrap the transceiver in copper foil? Would aluminum foil work?

    • @dl2man
      @dl2man  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even though it might work, I absolutely have no experience on that... I mean: Who has ? Who has stored his electronics devices near a nuke and is still alive to tell wether aluminium foil helped to protect modern FETs ? The car alone is a faradayic cage. But instead of a plastic container, you can use military Ammo Cans which are sealed as well and from metal, which should in theory provide some shielding. But as far as I know, the EMP or NEMP is based on a chain reaction of electrons all travelling near ground, caused by gamma radiation, which induces a magnetic field, which is killing the devices. I don´t think electrical shielding can prevent magnetic field penetration..... But let´s hear the experts opinions on this..... I´m not one of them.... 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
