There's a serious lack of good instructional videos on dot sights. Thanks for making this one. It is very informative to an intermediate shooter like myself who has mostly experience with iron sights.
What he didn't add was the fact that you (well, most people) shoot the RDS with both eyes open. This not only gives you good depth of field but quicker target acquisition and situational awareness. That's why the military likes the ACOG so well, They work great on pistols
Luke M, The Red Dot Sight is for close range shooting since there's often no magnification at all, and the dot would cover too much of the target at longer ranges. I wouldn't recommend hunting anything farther than 50 yards.
I bought a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot to use for airsoft for 80 bucks. It works better than the china clones of the T1 Aimpoint. And also has a battery life of 3000 hrs on 1 single 3V CR2032 and is shock proof at 1000G. If your planning on spending 60-80 or even 100 bucks on a china clone, I strongly suggest bushnell.
this is a pretty good basic explanation of a red dot. do you cover the parallax issues that alot of red dot end up having later on in other videos? because its a important issue.
For the love of God will you show how to install one of these red dots on an R1 Crosman please pretty please pretty please with sugar on top pretty please pretty please I bought a utg and I don't know what the hell I'm doing
Your problem may be the dovetails on the R1. Those are the 2 grooves you see on the barrel near the receiver. Most red dots have a pictinny or weaver rail which is larger than your dovetail. Not to worry. You can get an adapter to solve the problem, if that is it
Hi great video guys. Only thing I don't understand, is there much difference between the red dot sight in your video (that looks like a scope) and the sights that appear to have a single window like the one shown in this video when WW2 & shotguns are mentioned (sorry in new to air guns) I'm also after a cheap dot scope to go on my 6inch fan Wesson co2 revolver. Is there any that you would suggest?! Chris
Can any one give me advice on reddots, i want to buy a dot sight for hunting small game but I am also wondering what the max range i could get out of one of these but still be accurate.
hi, i just recently purchased my first red dot sight. the problem im having is, that whenever i move my head a foot away from it the dot enlarges too much for accuracy, is this because i have bad eyesight (i do) or is it supposed to be like this? i plan on mounting it on my baikal mp512 id like to know if the dovetail would bring it close enough to my eye when i shoulder the stock (im 5,4"). Id also like to know if Pursuit scopes are airgun recoil resistant.
That info on sighting a dot is wrong. you didn't mention parallax at all. Most red dots are worthless less than 50 yds. Also the dot adjustments are for the dot , NOT the point of impact, like scopes are.
Hey, I've got one of the sig mpx airguns. I've kind of figured this out on my own, but I've never used a red dot sight and i've noticed you have to aim quite a bit above the target to land a hit. Do i need to sight it in more, or is this usual? Convicted felon who loves guns, gotta go air to keep myself outta prison haha.
@@dustinh4175 from one felon to another, don't homie. still illegal unless it's an "antique" made before the 1900s. No background check to buy one but still illegal to posses for a felon.
@bioniclairsof1Sher your shouldnt be more than one foot away from any sight if your face is where it should be to shoot. Also yes any sight is generally designed for a real gun and airguns have no recoil compared to any caliber round above .17 HMR
Pretty much a worthless video explaining what a red-dot sight is, and nothing on how to use one. I purchased a red-dot sight to replace the broken front post sight on my Beeman Dual Caliber, and returned it literally the next day. The .22 barrel already didn't shoot worth a damn to begin with, groups all over in a ten inch circle, and that was before the sight went flying off. Add the red-dot sight, and suddenly no matter how much I adjust it, I'm missing by feet, and randomly hitting my target. I was more accurate by trying to imagine a front-sight than using one of these pieces of crap.
+Shayde Mohr (SnowblindOtter) Springer air rifles are very hard on optics. They will destroy scopes (and red dots) that easily survive life on a high powered hunting rifle.. I never shoot my Spingers anymore.. PCP airguns are very easy on scopes, since the recoil is very low.. (Unless you are shooting a large caliber PCP, like a .357 or .50 cal)..
Richard Lee Trust me, I'm pretty well aware of how vicious springers are on optics XD I've had a lot of optics shatter because of that forward snap. The RDS that I had put on my springer was rated for it. I just couldn't use it, for whatever reason. Possibly my fault, 'cause I suck at it, or maybe it's because the rifle was crap to begin with.

Best & most re dot video or explanation I've found.

2:29 is a NYDAR sight Concept originally designed for the air force fighter jets shot alot of deer with em on my shotgun!
Question: is a red dot set up differently for hunting than tactical use? Or does it make a difference at all?

like just for the glorious HD
Does the bullet hit the same spot that the red dot sights?
HI
do red dot 1x30 scopes work on 30-06 12 ga shot gun 22lr rifles
They can handle any recoil, put it on whatever you want
So hard to find a reflex sight for an 11mm rail. Been bugging pyramid air to recommend a reflex sight for my crosman 2240xl. They can't
Worthless.
What should be the
location of the red dot? Is it at the center?

buy a Hawke Vantage Red Dot Sight 1x20 9-11mm Dovetail Base instead.
which is better the red dot , or cross hairs ?

+Rondo Schiavoni It depends what do you need scopes have magnification which red dots don't. But with red dots you can aim faster
THANKS NEVER KNEW THAT
OH IS THE RED DOT inside the viewer on the site and what about the type that sends a laser red dot on the target.
+Rondo Schiavoni lasers are different, as covered in episode 30
Thanks for the information .
This is a real step up
Never mentioned that you have to keep BOTH eyes open for max accuracy. Maybe I missed that.

Chris
awesome videos, would you suggest a centerpoint multi tac red dot for a crossman phantom .22 500?
whats better the $50 one or the $500 one or are they the same
What if You have three red dots ?? You have to adjust the upper dot into the aim. But what job do the other two dots have?
They are like mil dots, they adjust for bullet drop at longer ranges. Bullet or arrow drop depends on the ballistics of your particular weapon.
Excellent easy to follow video.

Very useful video, well done. Keep up the great work!!!! :)

Me too. Thinking about trying a blackpowder gun
you definitely have to sight it in

what about the parallax error?
There shouldn't be any if it's not magnified.
Can you put a red dot sight on a powerline 880s?
khayln13 yes.
Hallo my red dot gets super small when i go outside can someone explain to me why
bujidar nikolov if you want it bigger, put it on a brighter setting
