However even with that canned like a lot of 80s and 90s movies it spawned a cartoon show which incorporated the elements of the scrapped sequel and was actually rather liked.

Now you have opened another can of worms 😂, Godzilla 1954 (56 English dub), and go on from there. Its a whole lore and lot of monsters to see and fall in love with Godzilla.
As a kid in the 60's growing up on the originals, this didn't offend at all and was classic 80's/90's type fun. For your first Godzilla film you could have easily gone wrong IMO. There are sewers which carry sewage, and storm drainage which is separate and moves rain water to someplace preferable.
Whoever let THIS be her FIRST GODZILLA movie is... evil. Now, the 36+ other movies are ruined! But I suggest 1. Original GODZILLA 2. Destroyah/Mothra/King Ghidorah/maybe MechaG movies 3. SHIN GODZILLA! ❤

There was almost a trilogy. The sequel to this would have been so cool but they canned it. So they turned the script into an awesome cartoon series that only lasted two seasons.

I def loved Godzilla 1998 as a popcorn film. Much prefer it more than the 2014 Godzilla for sure, but boy Godzilla Minus One was AMAZEBAWLZ Also I remember the Taco Bell Godzilla commercial with the bait trap box, it was so cute and I loved the teasers from these commercials.
