    My favorite mob trains were the "lost" bat pulls in Garbage Shitadel that would fall through a hole in a floor and the puller not realizing it, pulls another mob then moments later an unholy swarm of bats from the basement has descended upon your party lol

    The moment when a player has to leave the party in X minutes, he says that he has a replacement player on the way for his party spot so that the party can continue, after X minutes the player suddenly has the red (disconnect) icon and you realize that there is no replacement player on the way, we called them "fake d/c" (d/c for disconnect)

      I am ashamed to admit I did this on some real shit parties from time to time. I remember once got invite from group Qufim that all had /anon on, get to camp and discover over the course of a couple painful fights that theres like a WAR/WHM in the group, I think there was a DRG/RDM or some shit, I mean they were all the stupidest job combinations. I dont know if they were trolling or what the fuck but I noped out of that shit after our 2nd or 3rd broken chain. Killed the process and called it a night. I'd been waiting hours at that point for the invite so that was just the meat on the shit sandwich that was the evening anyway. Logged back in a couple hours later on top of another group that was really confused for a second and warped home. Good times.

    I remember doing a main mission, taking a group from sandoria to xarcabar and into castle zvahl to fight the shadow lord only to forget a key item to open the door. All that traveling into different zones and fighting all those demons. I was so embarrassed. I still remember that 10+ years later. lol

    I did was one of those guys once. I played NIN/RNG briefly (for the accuracy increase) and as soon as I could equip them, I spammed shuriken non stop. They were top notch damage at that point. It was expensive, but I was dealing more damage than anybody in the party by a long shot. I got invited to a group who didn't ask me to tank but assumed I would tank (because I was a ninja) and didn't even notice that I didn't sub warrior. They kept asking me to provoke. I mean they could see my subjob, kind of on them for not noticing. The party wasn't a total train wreck though... after 1 or 2 shuriken per fight, I'd have aggro locked in via damage.
    In my defense, I didn't advertise myself as a tank. It was just me being rebellious because I hated the idea that Ninjas were locked into tanking and nothing else was allowed. The stealthy assassin is supposed to obnoxiously provoke and keep the attention of enemies. It just seemed antithetical to all that a ninja should be, so I hated it.

    Back in the day, you didn't mess with beastmasters. If you came to a camp and a bst was already there exp'ing, you looked for another camp. If you were brave enough to camp on top of the bst, expect him to reward you by training an NM or every mob in the zone on top of your party.

    • @Huntin4GamesChannel
      @Huntin4GamesChannel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hahah ya, I do kind of miss the days when BSTs could just drop enemies on parties, now they just disappear :\

    • @carlfogelin1388
      @carlfogelin1388 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think BST got a bad rep. Many time folks tried to bully BSTs out of an area. I remember leveling my BST in the basement of Garlaige. A group arrived about 30 minutes after me and they wanted me to get out so they had the basement to themselves. I wouldn't leave, said there was enough mobs in the area for both of us and basically focused on one side so they could focus on the other. And then they got a link which overpowered them and wiped their party. I wonder how long it took before the leader asked me to raise their healer. I would have done it sooner if I had noticed, but I was trying not to crowd them. I still smile when I think about that time and that happened way back during CoP. :)

    • @carlfogelin1388
      @carlfogelin1388 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Pablo Oh sure, there were some people who didn't want to be with others. BST let you be unsocial... lol. But there were all sorts of misunderstandings about BST too. I remember folks saying "don't have a pet, it'll affect our exp" which was not correct. It affected only the exp of the BST and unless you're dealing with a really well geared BST, removing their pet made them a really weak warrior. I loved the challenge of BST, but yeah, folks that played them were definitely a different type of player. ;)

    I remember early on in RoZ the goblins 'Bomb Drop' did true AoE dmg, many gob camps in the jungle were right next to mandy camps and it wasn't uncommoon to have 3 partys very close with 1 or 2 on gobs. Very often one parties gob would drop a bomb and wipe the lower lvl party that was on mandies. even seen 2 gob parties both bomb drop at the same time and take out 18+ people.

    Here is my first noob moment in FFXI. back in 2005 I started to play FFXI and had never played a MMORPG before. I had just hit lvl17 Black Mage and just got warp in the Dunes. I thought it would be funny to warp a crab. I ended up warping myself back to Sandy.. Luckily my friend was PLing so the party kept me in it as I ran back. Also I did a WAR/DRK in Crawlers nest. I recall the true MPK trolls that would grab NMs or the like and train them to the zones. The party thing is where server fame came in. The good/fun players would get more invites because you/they were reputable. FFXI is still my #1 game of all time, but it died for me when my server (remora) merged onto leiviathan. All those years of building up my name turned to nothing once I was put on a new server. Having to be the last person to zone as a tank making sure everyone was safe or calling for help was one of them when everyone stopped what they're doing even PLs come and kill the mob for you. Worst Trainer Zone wasn't Yuhtunga or Yhoator Jungle...it was Garlaige Citadel. The Number of Times I died at the entryway bat camp as the Paladin or Warrior tank around 35-40 because some 50-75 THF down at the Serket camp would flee EVERY HIGH LEVEL MOB IN THE ZONE!.... The level of frustration that that entailed....you have no idea. There is nothing worse than some high level person upset because they hadn't succeeded in claiming Serket training every single pit fiend and unknown eldritch horror from the depths of that place up to the areas where everyone is in their subjob leveling armors....it was just like dropping a hungry Great White into a tank full of tiny baby seals. My THF never hit 75 until I after the "Zoning Patch", so I never had the noobicide on my conscience at least.^^

    As a tank, I basically felt like I could never be the first to leave a group. I mean, it's not like I had any backup tanks to replace me, and any tanks looking for groups would be gobbled up instantly. This slavish dedication to not letting the group down is probably what made me quit at level 63 in 2004 and not return until last month.

    Qufim island. Gigas, leeches, weapons, every damn thing in the zone all piled up by the zone to Jeuno. My first time leveling there players dropped a gigas on the tunnel mouth. More players kept coming out and failing to dodge the agro, keeping the gigas on that spot. I put it to sleep and called for help, hoping other players would join in and help kill it. They... actually did, surprise. But it was touch and go for a bit. After hitting level 59 or so I would "volunteer" my time clearing trains there. Felt really good. But it's an experience that is lost to time now.

When I played this game for the majority of the part I lived with my cousin and a friend, who's brother was a caretaker of this 3 - 20-floor apartment building. His brother didn't live at site and did play FFXI and leveled DRK first to 75, then PLD, and eventually NIN.
    He would jump on one of our computers when he got to work if one of us wasn't home. Sometimes he would walk into the apartment during his shift seconds after the /tell occurred when he was leveling DRK.

    Another annoying player is the Expert. He knows everyone's job better than you do and reminds you of it constantly. I once got kicked out of a Dunes party because I didn't know a spell we needed, one which it turned out I wouldn't learn for two more levels, but I was a new player and didn't know. It devastated me until someone in my LS told me I was too low of a level to use that spell. Another time in Dunes I was leveling a THF/RNG. I was a good aggressive puller on my RNG/NIN, so figured the /RNG would help me land the puller job. The leader of the party told me that they were desperate for a puller and I was the only THF he could find and why did I have such a stupid sj? I told him it was a great sj because of the scan capability and the others in the party agreed with me. Experts, they sure can be brutal. (Fwiw, I quickly convinced him that he had nothing to worry about regarding my pulling skills. lol.)

    Another thing was before level sync it took sometimes hours to make a party. I was invited to a party in crawlers nest and after I traveled all the way there I was told they invited someone else. I was pissed and just trained a huge line of mobs right in the middle of their party and let myself die and it wiped them all out lol. As a White Mage in Jeuno teleporting people for Gil other people would steal my teleports away. There was a guy that offered to double your Gil with a lottery in Jeuno but if you win he would log out of the game without paying you and take your money. While playing as the tank in a party I always kept the hate on me and never let anyone die before myself. I shake my head when I see dead party members and the tank is still alive. At the beginning I did notice the Japanese players being racist. They only let me party with them maybe 2 times in 10 years.

      Tim Terrell I had the basically the same thing happen in Kuftal Tunnel. They refused to even take the time to warp me out. I didn't have enough items to get out of the zone safely, especially because I didn't know it very well then and I was deep in the lower levels of the zone. I watched their party long enough to get a good idea of how long their chains lasted before they needed to rest a bit. I figured out when I needed to start training mobs if I wanted to die in their camp when they were at their weakest. Really? I've always had the nicest experiences with JP players. I remember one time I was doing some mythril ore farming in Fei Yin on my SAM and I get a tell from some JP group sitting at the battlefield there asking me to help them with 5-1, and I was like, eh ok why not it's been a while since I did that.
      So I join and they don't even have a full party it's just a couple of mages ,no tank, and I think a DPS and I'm there on my SAM/THF. I basically asked them in broken auto-translate if they were sure about this, like I could basically go and /WAR and come back, but they were like nah, it's fine.
      Somehow we beat it just fine and they were all /praise ing me and saying (Thank you) (Thank you) (Samurai) (Too strong) and I felt really embarrassed and humbled, and I remember thinking how fun that was and I'd never have that experience with a NA party, cause they'd never go in undermanned or with a sub-optimal setup.

    Oh god the trains, the pain, the pain!
    On Seraph we once had one of those fleshmonster undeads from behind gate 1 in Garlige Citadel be trained all the way to the zone line and it just sat there for almost a day together with some skeletons, bats and beetles. Just eating up anyone who tried to exit or enter. Parties finding other camps in other zones out of fear to enter and the few parties still inside huddle up and hide from it's anger.
    Untill finaly someone called up a few high lvl friends to form a party and drop in to put a end to it's reign of terror.

    I don't know why this video reminded me of this but one of the highest praise I ever received was as a THF on Qufim, pulling mobs for a burn party with a crossbow and someone said, "That's a good fisher there, you can tell because he goes to pull before our current mob is dead." I was definitely blushing IRL, that's what I love about FFXI, all of the random memories.

Luckily they didn't get angry and just laughed it off telling me not to let it get to my head haha.

    Haha the trains of mobs ones is a good one. The two places I remember it being both a pain whilst also being funny, were watching griefers wipe out a whole queue line of LFP people standing at the outpost in Valkurm Dunes by training mobs to the nearby zone line. Also Korroloka Tunnel if someone ran the Jammer Leeches to the zone line, could close down the zone for 45 minutes like you say.

    There was this one RDM that was around when I was leveling WHM - I remember him as a 50 RDM/18 WAR or something like that. Would only cast Refresh if asked nicely; Haste was right out. It was one of those “are you surprised?” experiences when a party leader invited him.
    Also, I was totally guilty of “experimental play” - on both WHM and BLM when an enemy was almost dead I routinely would charge up to melee range with blink and stoneskin up and just unload a sealed Curaga or back to back top tier spells, stealing hate off the tank and just alternating defensive spells if the enemy wasn’t quite dead.
    It was really effective - and it was a tactic my static party (as BLM) routinely used to avoid wasting skill chains on enemies that were almost dead, but in rando-parties it bothered the heck out of people.

    Sadly, I was that red mage who wanted to melee. But in my defense I was truly newbie, and I didn't yet understand game mechanics or job roles. Red mage was my first lvl 30 job, which allowed me to unlock advanced jobs. So it was during that thirty level journey that I realized my future was as a frontline line melee and not a caster. After that i never looked back since.

    @user-ev4lo6rj8o 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    A lot of trains were accidents, and what else could they do than run for their lives... nobody really wanted to take the blame and get themselves killed and leveled down haha... It was annoying sometimes when it got your party wiped or members killed who had to wait for raise, etc, but the occasionally to-the-zone mass-run wasn't too bad.
    My biggest annoyance was with the jobs that refused to play their job, also. Like the melee white mage who didn't heal anyone but themselves, or the paladin who refused to provoke, lol. I played THF once and I absolutely hate pulling but when we had nobody else, I did it anyways, cause you know, everyone has to do their part.
    Annoying were also the groups that would camp on top of you. Generally people were friendly and if a spot was taken, they knew they had to look elsewhere, but some party leaders I guess didn't wanna put more effort.
    Also of course, the vital jobs that suddenly had to leave! When the tank or healer had to go after the group just spent two hours getting everyone together and on location, and they of course couldn't find a replacement (I love the fact that it was a thing to try to find a replacement for oneself!) cause they had to go RIGHT NOW, so often the whole party just gave up and disbanded... Equally sad: the party members that didn't wanna keep trying. When the leader had to go, a lot of parties automatically disbanded cause nobody even wanted to try to recruit a new person even when there were lots looking. Somehow losing the party leader equaled the end of the session for many people.

    Someone pulled the RDM AF1 Fomor (I think)
    All the way from it’s spawn near the Gustav tunnel (if I recall) entrance in Valkrum all the way to the entrance from the Highlands.
    Since it was a Ranger mob, it could kill all the poor lvl 10s from pretty far as it slowly made its way back to its spawn.

    -setting your HP obnoxiously far away with no means of getting back into the action in a timely manner

    *ONE of the type of player I hated most:* I'm out, camping a NM, I've maybe gotten it to spawn once or twice over the past 2~3 hours but no drop. The pop-window is coming up in just 2 more minutes and I get ready to go kill some place-holders. A player rides by on a Chocobo, spots me, turns around and comes back, dismounts and starts searching the area too, like... WHY?! Dude, you were clearing doing something else, until you saw me and then decided to come piss on my parade. _NM camp-crashers = High stress factor._

      *Another type of player I hated most (Abyssea era):* I return to the game and join some old LS members for Abyssea farming. We spend X-amount of HOURS per day, farming the same NM's over and over. I ask if we could do *1* NM, 5 minutes walk from where we were, for a seal for the "new" PLD armor set...They don't feel like it. We get the one-billionth item from their NM and the player goes _"Yay done! That completes my 5th set! Think I'll work on _*_my_*_ PLD set now!"_
      I left _'non-75 FFXI',_ dual-wielding and brandishing a pair of middle fingers in the air.

      Sometimes, I can hardly blame the player(s). FFXI wasn't very good at _"rewarding the group"_ for the effort, IMO. Usually there would only be few, if not 1 sole benefactor from a full-group effort, allowing for some really greedy mentality to surface. Maybe my fault for not being more verbally(textually) demanding, saying _"I want this!",_ instead going with a mentality of _"If I help them now, _*_'maybe'_*_ they will offer to help me later???"._
      Only ONCE did I get _frustrated_ enough from the lack of help, that I actually pulled the _"I want this!"_ card (and still felt kind of bad about it), after I had personally spawned a once-a-day NM and attempted to solo it, but obviously couldn't. I barely mustered to pull out even just a couple of capable hands from the LS to help me low-man and just baaarely succeed in defeating that NM, but I tell you what, I sure loved that _'Joyeuse'_ ever since that day. 👍

    What about the Primadonna party leader who demands you adhere to his every want? I was once blind invited to a party as a Corsair/Dancer, pretty much made the trek from I believe Gustaberg (S) to a colibri camp outside Whitegate. I've almost arrived when he takes it as a personal offense that I didn't sub nin. I didn't have enough money to buy both ammunition and ninja tools and even explained this to him. He then dictates to me that I WILL sub ninja or I can find another party. So I return to Whitegate, disband from the party, return to the past, and go straight back to farming. The fact I chose to leave of my own free will offends him even more as he starts verbally abusing me over private chat, or at least until I finally had enough of his shit, blacklisted him, and reported him to a GM for good measure.

      Some of my linkshell members and other ppl had been farming the Optical Hat items little by little over the course of a week. Then when I was preparing for the fight, I shouted randomly for someone to synth the items. It was a pretty high level Alchemy synth. A JP player responded, and within minutes she proceeded to synth it. Then bam. I could see the crystal breaking, and I couldn't believe it. Most of the items were lost. I remember feeling so bad, for both of us, and the language barrier just made it worse.
      But one of my thf ls members got on a bit later, and she was nice enough to help me re-obtain the items. I don't know how we did it. We were both lvl 70-74~. Sam and thf. Maybe we got help from other members on some of the mobs. Then I got it synthed, and the actual fight(s), some days after went really smoothly. We must have done the fight 10 times, but we didn't really have any issues. I'm pretty sure we won every time.
      Of course, after getting the Hat, I made sure to tell that JP player about it.
