- Melchior Schildt (1592 - 1667) composed this piece, for organ or harpsichord, after the famous tune by John Dowland. The original lute song, "Lachrimae pavane" ("Flow. my tears"), was composed in 1596 and became an international "hit" by 1603.
The harpsichord was built by Willard Martin in 1989 and rebuilt by Kevin Fryer in 2001.
