Sad to see something so beautiful torn down, especially when it is in good shape.

Some people don't know how to appreciate History!
That is so sad that some people have no feeling or appreciate the beauty of life!
    Thanks for sharing!

Of course. Anything in the US over 50 years old gets torn down. Shameful.

Not like that in Europe, there's places damn near 1000 years old still lived in

That is so sad! All people do is tear things down and try to forget or change history. How can the owners even look at themselves?

I could see if it were rundown and too expensive to fix, but this beautiful home should have survived somehow. Hard to believe some rich family didn't grab it when the price decreased.

Taxes, expenses, money laundering. True beauty doesn’t really matter anymore.

I do not understand why history is not protected by the state. The homeowner decides is crazy.

All I can say is this is SAD. This house should be saved.

  • @susanpfaust

state or other authority should give abatement of real estate taxes to owners of historic houses - so these homes can be preserved..... what a shame....

The history should have been preserved, it's a travesty. Let them put up their "New" homes, they'll NEVER come close to building this quality again...Pathetic

The site of Southway manion was the location of a “new” mansion that burned to the ground in 2020.

I'm late on the story but they should have carved out two acres around the mansion and kept the home.

Yup. Well that's the way it is here in the states. If you see a place 100 years old it's a miracle smh

You’d think the state would give them a tax break to preserve it ?-( Wasn’t even derelict and caving in, which is sooo much worse!! Would make a fantastic wedding venue!

It’s REALLY DESPICABLE to ME when people with money find it necessary to demolish homes of this era and quality AND CHARACTER , in order to build these new structures that have none of the for mentioned assets. And that if caught on fire burn down swiftly because of the cheap materials that are built into them .😒

When I was in Ireland, I went to a Pub. In that Pub, holding up the roof was a petrified tree that they said was 800 years old! They have no intention of ever demolishing that Pub and removing that old tree! Hey, good for 🇮🇪 Ireland and shame on Minnesota! Just a thought I had, so I said it.!!! 🤔🤷🏽‍♂️ ✌🏼 😘

Wow, what a shame! Minnesota really doesn’t “KARE” about it’s most iconic Historical treasures!!! 😩 Seems that the tax revenues of the five unnamed wealthy property owners are more important than the preservation of the site for a museum that would serve all Minnesotans and visitors from around the Country as well as the whole world.!!! One hundred years of history gone and never to return again …This just disgusts me!!!

Humans are so wasteful. Over one hundred years of this insane cycle of consumption and it's no wonder things are going downhill all over the world.

Well, 100 years really isnt historical. It is or was, (idk what they did with it) old but maybe thats the problem. Maybe the layout is out of fashion. The interior certainly provokes thought...of old, rich ladies sipping tea and nibbling on scones. So I can see why maybe the land is worth more without the house being there. Its beautiful to me but Im poor so idk what rich people are into these days.

I do find this very very sad! Their is a but though unless it became a public building for art or something > something! Public money though other than a tax break should not happen
