    It’s cool to see you do one of these on the channel. They’re the bread and butter saw of the majority of arborists here in Singapore and the most common saw I port, but I’ve never seen them dyno’d before. Just finished one for an arborist friend of mine and he’s well pleased with it - so nice when people get all excited over a port job done for them. I hope whoever you’re doing this one for loves it 👍🏻 I did a BBPU 372XP for myself as a play saw pushing the numbers and it’s mad as a kettle of fish - 18 thou squish (impractical I know but hilarious), 96 exhaust and 160 intake with 25 deg of blowdown, wears a 20 inch ES Light and an obnoxious pipe - so much fun to run but getting a shoulder like Quasimodo from starting it cold.
    Really enjoying your videos 👍🏻 So glad you’re back.

      .018 isn't that tight, many dolmar 7900'scame that tight or even tighter.
      .020 is just a good safe number many use.

    • @latinodeathjazz
      @latinodeathjazz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only consider 18 thou tight as below that on builds I’ve had issues with pre-detonation and had to mess about a bit (with higher octane fuels, etc). I haven’t come across a 7900 with tighter squish that 22 thou yet but I can absolutely believe it as the Dolmars I’ve ported have been all over the place, even on exactly the same model of saw from the same production year when I’ve ported a batch. I’ve not gone down the race saw rabbit hole yet but I wouldn’t be surprised to see much tighter squish’s in that area. For work saws here I tend to stay up around 24-26 thou as folk here tend to use fairly cheap and dirty oils and often don’t bother warming their saws up, leading to some almost comical amounts of carbon build up in the cylinder and piston crown. I worked on a two year old saw a while back (can’t remember if it was a 372xp or an MS261) and there was so much carbon build up in the exhaust you couldn’t fit a pencil through it into the cylinder from the muffler side - crazy! 🤯 Suffice to say it ran a heap better once I’d removed it all 😂

    • @latinodeathjazz
      @latinodeathjazz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure if that was addressed to me, Brett or Joe, but I just run 98 octane ethanol free pump petrol and it runs fine for feisty work saws (being able to use pump fuel is in part a governing factor on how I choose to port/modify a saw).

    • @brettblack7049
      @brettblack7049 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@latinodeathjazz just use a 268 piston in a 372 with everything else stock in the cylinder, just a muffler mod and let me know how you like that. You will need to use a base gasket and cut a .040 pop-up that will fit into the chamber, leave the squish band stock also. I think you'll like how simple it is and how much extra power it gives you. It's also nice because you can replace the 268 piston with a stock 372 piston anytime you'd like as you did no custom machining on the cylinder.
      Have a great week.

    Granted I'm not expert. But every 372 I've had ported or ported myself those lower transfer dividers can be a knife edge

    • @dynojoemods2764
      @dynojoemods2764  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I'm not a fan of knife edging ports. I feel they flow a bit better over a raidus/bull nose. A knife edge dosent create a boundary layer the same as the rounded, can actually make the mix stick to the walls vs flowing.
      Depending on the goal for the saw and type of porting they may need all the lowers opened way to the max and bulk flow as much as possible. For a standard worksaw type build I don't think it is needed on every saw.
