Manually Enable Secure Boot For Windows 11

  • This is an update to a pervious video where I showed you how to use MBR2GPT to convert an MBR partition to GPT so you can enable secure boot. However, that command doesn't always work on non standard partition schemes. So today I'm going to chow you how to manually do the same thing but this time it works on all systems that have a UEFI BIOS.

    "list vol" in diskpart will always show all volumes on all disks. However, "list par" will show only the partitions on the selected disk. Put another way, "list vol" does not care what disk is selected. You do not even need to select a disk to run "list vol".

    It is better not to touch data partitions at all. No matter where the other stuff goes, it'll work either way. Moving partitions is error prone and pretty long, if anything goes wrong or a power outage occur, the data is basically gone.

    Thanks! Now I can remove my THREE recovery partitions ( 1.14GB, 19.34GB, 1.51GB) and recreate the only one needed.

    12:00 actually instead of moving the c partition which will take a lot of time on drivers that are more full with data, you should just resize the partition so that it expands into the unallocated space. Haven't watched the video past this point, but having 12gb of unallocated space before the C drive is definetely not good. You just need ~500mb for the EFI partition (if dualbooting. if not -default 100mb is enough) and 16mb for the MSR partition. The recovery partition resides right after the C drive, or at the end of the disk.
    edit: watched the video further, yeah, you could have just expnaded the partition without moving it. If someone is dualbooting linux, having a 500mb EFI partition is desirable, to keep more kernels. Pop os for example will not install on an EFI part smaller than ~500mb.

    • @verpejas
      @verpejas 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      One more thing about the repair install, yeah this is also an option, but we can actually try to recreate the recovery partition using diskpart:
      "
      diskpart
      sel dis 0
      sel vol X (the last partition)
      shrink desired=800
      create partition primary
      format quick fs=ntfs label="winRE"
      set id="de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac"
      exit
      reagentc /enable
      "
      It will recreate the recovery partition without having to do a whole repair install or version jump

    • @CyberCPU
      @CyberCPU  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The repair install is for more than just restoring the recovery partition. For instance, hibernation doesn't work before the repair install either.

    I would prefer to use a 2nd drive and do a fresh gpt install on it. Once done , simply wipe the fresh c partition and clone your old c partion to the new drive. Once that is done you can directly access the PE shell to "fix" the efi partition. Less steps. so less things to go wrong.

    i already turned this secure boot off from the BIOS because it messed up my system after merging the C partition with another one using AOMEI.. after that my laptop (Dell Precision) was on Bootloop and half loaded BIOS and stayed hanged forever... so, I had to dissassemble the back cover and remover the SSD in order to enter to the BIOS and turn the secure boot off. i had to use my Windows ssd in an enclusre and luckily i have another ssd to make an image of it on Hiren'sBoot, then i had to create the bootloader manually and everything was fixed without the need to make a fresh windows installation... it's kinda annoying but i think this is common in most if not all DELL Laptops... so, for me NO MORE SECURE BOOT

    I hate Windows 11, because it is not user-oriented, has some very clear and impacting worseing GUI compared even to Windows 10 (not to mention compared to Win 7) and it is massively spyware. And the TPM-requierement at that... Windows 10 was also spyware and a very bad so called "OS" compared to the last real OS Microsoft released, Windows 7. But Windows 11 is even worse than Windows 10!
    Thank you for another, as always, great video!!
    Best regards.

    I like your videos, but this one confused me a lot, especially the intro. Why do you want secure boot (= Vendor Lock-in)? It has NOTHING to do with any security at all and also not needed for Windows 11 at all! I have a cheap laptop and no secure boot enabled and can start Windows 11 from a UEFI shell ... I do not understand the use-case you try to explain ... (I also do not know about any mbr to gpt tool that I would trust to use, who uses something like that? 😁)
