  • Navy Pier Dive, Exmouth Western Australia, 10 October 2023, dive 1 of 2.
    Dive #99. Dive time 50 min, Max depth 12.4m.
    I have heard about the Navy Pier dive being an awesome experience, even before I was a diver, so I have been champing at the bit to get to Exmouth and find out for myself.
    Wow was it a great dive. The sheer number of different species here is phenomenal. It is a very special place, thanks to the fact that only the tour company is allowed access to the dive site and no one can fish there (being an active navy pier). Thanks to the limited human access, this has really made this place boom with life. A dive instructor at Dive Ningaloo said she has dived the site over 300 times and she has never got bored! I believe it.
    I will visit each time I go to Ningaloo area, that's how much I loved it.
    The dive:
    Quite strong current. I saw so many fish species I haven't had any time to ID them, but the few I can...
    * Friendly (or frisky) occy
    * We saw a fair few white tip reef sharks - cuties zooming around rounding up all the fish
    * Stars and stripes puffer fish
    * Big chunky gropers - unsure if we saw the famous BFG but we saw lots of big chunky fishies - perhaps not THE big chunky guy - dont know!
    * 2 or 3 lionfish
    * Really cool tuskfish
    * Grey nurse sharks!! In this video is only 2, but there were around 5! How lucky!
    * Flutemouth fish
    * Parrotfish
    * Sailfin Catfish
    * A few different cutie puffer and boxfishes
    * A couple of different Moray eels
    * A huuge wobbygong shark.
    * Will try return to ID the rest...
