Great interview! Wes is good people. I first met him in the weigh-in line at the Mississippi 2019 after he lead the Open going into championship day. He realized he didn’t have enough and literally looked like he was in physical pain. I knew he would make it. I saw the drive. He’s there. So glad he’s ok.
I had tears in my eyes when Wes was giving his recount of what happened. Glad he’s okay and even more impressed he still went out and caught his limit fish after that ordeal.
Dave your idea on the "power hour" for ffs is BOMB. It would generate so much excitement and give all parties an opportunity to use their fav technique.
As a Fisherman’s wife that situation is my worst nightmare! When I have been to events I pace from the minute the boat goes out until it comes back in!!! I am glad you are okay Wes! But I will say Fisherman are a very different breed of humans hands down!! No matter what even with having to go to the hospital they still worry about the next catch! #passionoverpain

His point at 36:00 is something I’ve never thought of but it’s an extremely good point. The 100 different ways to weigh 100 different limits was a beautiful part of the sport. I think it is on B.A.S.S. to include more events that are shallow water non ‘scoping events.

I had my steering bolt break when driving my Ranger. Hooked the boat, threw me out hard and like a dart in the water and flipped over me. It's tough to shake off and no matter the cause or reason, was thankful to be alive and all the best, Wes.

I would say that if you banned forward sonar 80% of the new kids getting into fishing now would be lost, and not make it through their first tournament. Back in my Navy days, we had a name for guys that looked at scopes all day, SCOPE DOPES. Seems appropriate today.
I think they should have a 500 hp limit. A 250 just doesn’t cut the mustard anymore. The boats are way heavier than they’ve ever been. We need more HP !!
Glad Wes is okay. Scr--w the negative nellies. I was on Oneida Lake a few years back in my Tracker, idleing across an area I didnt know that was only 5 or 6 ft deep when the back of my boat lifted up. Later found a slash in the aluminum. I learned that day that old construction equipment had been left in the lake and was under water and not marked. You never know. Go get them Wes and get healed.
Oneida was home lake. Gotta be careful on that one. A lot of shallow water far off the shore and can get nasty with an East or West wind and not a whole lot of places to hide.
I am so glad he is ok. Watching that just brought back my boat wreck on Saint John's river. Was coming off river going into snake creek its a hard left turn when I turned it just didn't feel right like something was wrong with the steering cables. Well there was as I made the left turn steering got hard then had nothing the cables broke was going maybe 25 to 35 mph my partner ended up on me then I somehow pulled the kill switch then we hit the shore flipped boar on its side threw both of us out. Was the scariest thing that ever happened to me on the water
Thank God Wes you’re OK. I’ve watched this video twice and come to the same conclusion. These people that are hating on. You need to mind their own business until they are in your shoes! Drive that boat in all kinds of conditions that you do day in and day out! There will, always be negative people trying to bring you down! One of the guys I fish against here in Tn almost got killed 2 years ago when his motor came loose and came up in the boat on him.He was very lucky.He’s had a very long road because of multiple multiple surgeries!Hes still not 100%.After saying this we all here in middle Tn have bought the “LEASH”.Its ended up saving a few guys this past year.
It surprises me no one mentioned or thought of the Debris from the recent floods. My son and I was on the Ct River mid July and it was crazy from the first set of storms that went on all month with massive rain fall. It takes time for Mother Nature to handle all the trash.
Glad he's OK and some are right. The ones talking down have never owned a bass boat. I fish the Tennessee River and things can go wrong quick. I've seen full trees, docks hell upside down boats. I very rarely push my boat to the max and the main reason I've got an aluminum boat just from the fiberglass boats cut almost in half. Hope he gets well soon. Thanks Dave for your hard work. I agree with you Mercer about the time limit on ffs. OR like most other sports maybe have a “halftime” and have the first half ffs and the second half none. Or vise versa. And during that half you have officials check to see if there off/on. The tech is going no where and progression is great, but I want to see the anglers that have those confidence baits use them. Like a zaldian and a swimbait, a Christie and a spinner bait. Just a couple examples. But that’s my thoughts. Great episode as always Dave!

What about limiting FFS to only using it in practice? The anglers can find the fish they’re looking for with it in practice and then can go out during the tournament and cast around. I don’t own any FFS nor do I hate on it. I have used it a few times over the years and I absolutely love it for what it can teach me as an angler. Love the show Dave and can’t wait for Jake’s take coming up!
With all the advancements in technology, maybe make an unlimited Elite series and a Basic Elite series with no imaging allowed, still have depth finders but no imaging and no AI.
I still think that the elite series and BPT should have limited use of FFS because in other top sports restrict technology. I’m not saying ban it but I like your idea of the 2 hour deal

Bonnie Castle, huh? Sunken Rock light behind you gave it away. You just can’t hide anywhere! I was riding shotgun and wrecked similar about a mile over your shoulder in 2013. You have a great idea. About the 2 hour rule. I am a little older and have use pc for awhile. At first you had A c: promp and it was not easy. But when windows was invented it got so much easier to use a pc. Now everyone knows how to use pc. Same thing will happen with FF as technology gets better it will be easier for everyone and there will be know more skills for fishing. Enough said.

Time limit on scoping could be done pretty easily i would think. Put a timer on it and when the time is up the scope shuts off. Give them 180 minutes and they can use it whenever they want until the time is up. Man, strategy would be really fun. It would be like nascar trying to decide fuel and tire strategy. I think it would be exciting
I agree with Wes on his ffs views. It’s really not entertaining to watch the back of every guys head all day on live and I can’t chose to watch someone else since there’s only so many cameras. Even if they did show an overlay of their graphs it’s like watching a movie when you know the ending. The exciting part of fishing is getting bit when you don’t expect it and not knowing what you’re catching. Maybe I’m just to simple minded for the world today
I think the only real solution that somewhat pleases both parties in the FFS argument is to allow it in paractice but not in the tournament. This way the electronics companies still promote and sell plenty of units as all the anglers will definitely use it in practice.
Was it just luck that he didn't have a marshal on the boat with him? I thought everyone had to have a marshal. Glad he's ok, could have been way worse!
“It wasn’t like I was going too fast” lol. This guy learned nothing. I’ve operated numerous types of vessels in salt and fresh. Any USCG investigator would tell you he violated the safe speed rule which includes speed for the prevailing conditions. No one here has to like what I said but he’s his own problem here. Glad he’s okay.

I think a smart schedule and a limit on amount of screens and amount of transducers would make me happy. 5 live transducers on a boat is just stupid

You have a great idea. About the 2 hour rule. I am a little older and have use pc for awhile. At first you had A c: promp and it was not easy. But when windows was invented it got so much easier to use a pc. Now everyone knows how to use pc. Same thing will happen with FF as technology gets better it will be easier for everyone and there will be know more skills for fishing. Enough said.

Time limit on scoping could be done pretty easily i would think. Put a timer on it and when the time is up the scope shuts off. Give them 180 minutes and they can use it whenever they want until the time is up. Man, strategy would be really fun. It would be like nascar trying to decide fuel and tire strategy. I think it would be exciting
I agree with Wes on his ffs views. It’s really not entertaining to watch the back of every guys head all day on live and I can’t chose to watch someone else since there’s only so many cameras. Even if they did show an overlay of their graphs it’s like watching a movie when you know the ending. The exciting part of fishing is getting bit when you don’t expect it and not knowing what you’re catching. Maybe I’m just to simple minded for the world today

I think the only real solution that somewhat pleases both parties in the FFS argument is to allow it in paractice but not in the tournament. This way the electronics companies still promote and sell plenty of units as all the anglers will definitely use it in practice.

“It wasn’t like I was going too fast” lol. This guy learned nothing. I’ve operated numerous types of vessels in salt and fresh. Any USCG investigator would tell you he violated the safe speed rule which includes speed for the prevailing conditions. No one here has to like what I said but he’s his own problem here. Glad he’s okay.
