Still enjoying these masterpieces recorded over 40 years ago. Timeless.

Gilmour is playing a lap-steel guitar in this. Rick Wright’s keyboards never get the credit they deserve as such a critical part of their sound but his genius is undeniable throughout SOYCD.

Part 6 (1:30): I think David's lap steel guitar solo represents Syd's descent into madness.
Part 7 (6:12): Roger's vocals. Notice that the final notes are repeating like a broken record, symbolizing Syd's mental health.
Part 8 (8:02): Funky jam session. Maybe this represents one of Syd's LSD trips.
Part 9 (10:40): Rick's elegy for Syd, as a final goodbye. This is some of Rick's best work, but it's also his last writing credit until The Division Bell in 1994.
It's rarely performed live. Apart from bootlegs from the '75 and '77 tours, David Gilmour played parts 6 & 7 on his semi-acoustic 2002 concert.

Welcome Brother, welcome Sister to the church of Pink Floyd where many of us worship and look forward to joining you on your future enlightenment with each track/album (wait until you get to 'The Wall', in my opinion their best), you have so much to look forward to. Excellent reaction again, thank you for your complete honesty and intelligence.

A joy to watch you guys enjoy such amazing music. I grew up with this stuff and good to see younger people re-discovering it all again. Keep going Kirti and Savio.

Very astute point. You do have to be different to shine. I like your point on that. People who shine are a little crazy is a perspective that says a lot. It brings an understanding to this song in ways. Pink Floyd remembered Barrett fondly, thus the shine being remembered years later though the crazy part made it tough for him to stay in the group sadly.

No songwriter has described the horror and beauty of mental illness better than Roger Waters. And to be doing that in reference to his lost friend and former bandmate is breathtaking..

You should listen to De-Loused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta some time, my friend. It has a different soundscape to it, but it definitely lives up to the complicated sadness that Wish You Were Here expresses.

Regarding the question of mouth organ, synth, guitar?.? Etc... I believe , judging by the era namely 1975, the synth has taken command...where in the early. 1970s it was the Hammond organ. Richard Wright has produced an atmosphere with affects which dovetails nicely with David Gilmour’s guitar.
I’m not certain whether David is playing guitar or pedal steel guitar to reach those very high pitched notes in parts...could be either?! I hope you guys have played this album from beginning to end...with Syd in mind, of course!

Even though it was extremely sad what happened to Syd Barrett I don't think I would call him crazy crazy. He was more in the moment than you could ever be he wrote some of the best lyrics ever he was a great poet and artist he was a decent and very kind human being he was very childlike as you can tell in a lot of his poetry and songs David Gilmour later produced all his solo albums the madcap laughs is excellent

Its peculiar that they write a great tribute to their lost bandmate but weren't very tolerant of him during his mental demise. They booted him from the band because he was "fucking things up". I think they were ultra focused on success they kind of just swept him to the side. They probably helped syd with his solo records out of guilt.
