  • Today I wanted to share 10 things people with invisible (and less-visible) disabilities want you to know, based on my own experiences of energy-limiting chronic illness. It's by no means a comprehensive list, but I hope you find it informative!

My name is Pippa Stacey and I’m a writer, blogger and communications consultant based in York. I enjoy theatre, books, and fundraising, and can most often be found wearing some form of pyjamas and drinking all the tea.
I acquired my chronic illness as a young adult and struggle daily with the challenges of living my best life alongside managing a debilitating health condition. However, I’ve finally learned that I don’t have to ‘overcome’ or ‘defy’ my illness in order to be successful, and there’s truly nobody’s path to follow but your own.
I have a particular interest in inclusive education and employment for people with long-term illnesses, and you can find out more about me and my work by visiting www.lifeofpippa.co.uk. Thank you so much for being here!

I have just found your channel this morning. You summed up what I was thinking in this video. I’m 45 and have been unwell for 20 years.
I am diabetic, have fibromyalgia and ME, along with other smaller conditions. I have been using walking aids for 16 years. I have had some interesting interactions with people. I now have a wheeled walking frame. I get daggered looks mostly.

It would be great to introduce a sunflower lanyard in the Netherlands!

Great video! It's a shame that the sunflower lanyards aim has been made a bit forgotten because of it's relation to masks now, hopefully it can get back to being recognised for what it actually is. When I see posts about it on my instagram highlighting it's uses, I always share these to my stories to make other people aware of it. I don't use one myself, but I am in the process of an athritis diagnosis.

Thank you for watching and for being an ally, little things like that can make all the difference! Hope the diagnosis process goes as smoothly as possible!

Great info here. I like the term you used ‘less visible’ illness I always think it’s often not invisible if you are paying attention xxx

Thank you for watching! I'm still quite torn about how I feel about it but 'less visible' definitely resonates with me!

This is such a great video - and very much needed! Wow, I hadn't heard of the sunflower lanyard before - that's just awful that the original purpose got diluted. Here in the US, I could definitely see that being abused by anti-maskers. All of your points were right on target. It's a shame that people are so judgemental toward others and that this video is so needed!! I like the one about "if we're out, it's a good day." My own family doesn't understand that, and it's so very frustrating. All great points - thanks!
I also wanted to let you know that I just started a new tag, All About Me Tag, with the concept of having a chance to learn more about each other and get to know other TH-camrs, beyond just our chronic illnesses ... and I tagged you! So, take a look at my video and make one yourself, if you like! I'd love to know more about you :)

@@LifeOfPippa I hope you have a wonderful day today. I have recently been looking at getting a mobility aid due to my dyspraxia making my balance worse.

Interesting about the sunflower lanyard. I’ve never heard of them over here in the States. But I may also live in a vacuum of a hole in regards to what’s going on outside of my house.

Thanks for watching! Yeah they're not perfect by any means but they definitely seemed to be making some headway over here before the mask situation... hope today's as kind as possible to you!

Good points! Very nice video :)
P.s. I'm a new subscriber and also have ME/CFS. It's so cool to find a TH-camr who has the same condition as me (although I wish you didn't have it of course).

I have a supposed visible disability but I feel like it is less visible because tho people can see the difference in me I don't get much assistance and have other commorbidities associated with my disability that only one kind that I received accommodations for

Very good point, there are so many complexities to it and so many people with visible disabilities have lived experiences that are invisible and less visible too! Thank you for watching!
