@@eileenmoroney305 Without bans and censorship, opinions of all kinds wind up on social media. On TH-cam, you can even find full-on “tankie” Communists and unapologetic Bolsheviks if that’s your thing. That’s as it should be, if we’re both adults who can handle disagreement.
Some years back I remember Christopher Hitchens on a panel discussion. A member of the audience made a pro-Hitchens comment, and Hitch replied that the commenter spoke like someone who’d never been exposed to the best of the other side’s arguments. Don’t be that person.

Johnson changed a lot in that party, in my humble view. The Tories were always a weird and often rather disgusting bunch, but not like this. They're barely different from what Ukip was but really, it's the absolute incompetence that baffles me. I will never vote for a right wing politician, but I have seen some in government right here in Belgium. I don't like them, but they know what they are doing or what they are talking about. As a brit I can say it was a combination of many things. Most ordinary people don't understand or wish to understand the ins and outs of investment so they didnt know it would make a difference to the factories and companies manufacturing in this country and encourage the moving of manufacturing investment to Europe.
Many people were conned into believing immigration was damaging the country, now we do not have the people to harvest our crops, run our care homes, or in the NHS,
Many people believed particularly the French were not obeying EU laws and were voting laws against British interests but didn't obey those laws themselves, while Britain enforced them that was not true, in fact Britain pushed forward as much law as any other country.
Many were told our fishermen would get their fishing grounds back, the problem with that is British people don't eat the sort of fish that are caught in our waters, the market for those fish etc. is Europe which is now much more difficult to trade with, our fishermen are worse off than before.
People believed the unrealistic promise that the government would negotiate favourable agreements with other countries around the world, few trade agreements have materialised and none so favourable as what we had before.
The good Friday agreement that put an end to the bombings in London and other cities was swept aside by Boris Johnson
Many who believed what they were told by the Brexiteers now wish they had voted differently, many admit to voting to it as a protest vote never believing it would actually happen.
Oh dear I am ranting again, but I feel a bit better for it.

The Conservative and Unionist Party has been its own worst enemy, having lost the trust of their core
support by their own deceitful divisive conduct over some decades, not least in the resistance to
revealing the original political aims behind the the selling of the "Common Market" to the electorate
and the refusal to allow a national referendum until it was forced upon them; one which they were
clearly stunned to lose, a reaction that has festered ever since and will almost certainly lead to their
defeat at the next general election due to the outcomes affecting border controls and social instability.

The gambler's fallacy, what has happened before will affect what happens in the future. Johnson's previous win in a general election was due to external factors that he had little control over. The chances of the electorate having another choice that is between very bad and awful is very low. Johnson's supporters are the sort of people that bookies love because they don't know when to stop losing.

After Johnsons tantrum resignation and his clear contempt for Parliament he should have the Tory whip removed from him permanently and be expelled from the Party. If he isn't he will cause ever increasing damage to them. Which as a socialist I would welcome but for the sake of democracy it would be bad.
