If anyone has heard the original, you'll know that Mos Def reads Malcolm X's words with the same rhythm, cadence, and tone as Malcolm X. It's really uncanny.

Malcolm's ability to provoke thought in laymens terms is dope. Both he and Martin were needed and forever will have relevence in the movement and both were eloquent speakers. That speech written in the 60's has significance to people of all colors today! US out of Iraq!

Malcolm X was a revolutionary thinker, some of the things he said people aren't able to compare today. He still makes a valid point 30+ years after he speaks. Amazing..
Props to mos Def for being able to do this speech so well.

The one thing that i admire the most about El-Hajj Malik Shabazz is that he was not afraid to die. HE WAS NOT AFRAID TO DIE! He understood that his submission to Allah was enough. He believed, he prayed, he fasted, he paid Zakaat, he went in Hajj... he was embracing death as he knew he would die, but did not run!
    Wow.

  • @FAHYIEM

Rest in Peace Uncle Malcolm! It's funny how it's called reverse racism, when we say to them the very same things they say to us. They call it reverse racism, but when we accuse them of being racist, they deny this claim at every turn. If it's reverse racism, this means first & foremost racism had to first be coming from your direction in order for it to be pointed back in your direction. Not all, but who gets upset, I'm talkin' to you!

    • @Degenerate999
      @Degenerate999 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Comments like this do not unite. Things like this seem to be used as fuel for a race war. I will not be a causality of said war. And neither should you. White and black should get along. And when I leave the internet, and enter the world, be it countryside or downtown Paterson nj, the division seems so small in actuality. And the unity overwhelming. Maybe because whatever is being said that causes division, is said, heard, or read on some kind of internet medium. I'm afraid as long as people place importance on what they read from the internet, this problem will manifest itself.
What matters is when you leave the internet, enter the realworld, and, how you treat the people you encounter and if you are just as friendly to the next person. Anything else is ONLY reflection of the past, or premonition of the future. We do not live in "black vs white"
We do, live in black AND white..

Malcolm combatted the extreme with the extreme, and in a time period such as the 60's and 70's his comments were completely well deserved and relevant to the times. It is ridiculous to take his word as gospel, but it is not to admire his boldness and the way in which he approached the racial situations of the 60's in a greater context.

Mos-Def is a awesome rapper and activist. I'm white and my country has traficked in slavery which I do not feel should've ever been done. I hope one day we could go through life as the brothers and sisters we genetically are. I love my country but, I'm a human first and I love my neighbour so I am human first. We should learn to think as the global species we are and stop thinking in countries and continents more as a global civilization. We have to gain way more to win then to lose by doing so.

amen. this is so true. i judge a person by their actions/character not their skin color, and wish everyone else would do the same. i cant help but respect what malcom x did for his people, he was very intelligent, and new how to unite his people, however if you saw some white person making that exact same speach, with a few things taken out talking about white people banding together, it would be called racism. it would be on the ten o'clock news "white sepremist arrested today"

I'm not sold 100% on whether what Malcom X said was absolutely, completely true, but he was the fuckin MAN.
He represented black people in America in a defiant, powerful, demanding way. He did not say, "we need to be nice and play nice." he said, we should not have to play nice at all, but history has brought us here. He said, let us take the reins of history back into our own hands.
    Malcom X deserves RESPECT.

He had the courage to risk his life and stand up against a system that oppressed minorities. This was an era with Japanese internment camps, Jim Crow Laws, etc. This was a time when America was overwhelmingly white and not diverse like today. Just imagine being a small group and going up against government policy. I don't think anyone has the heart to do so.
Minorities wouldn't have the rights of regular citizens today if it wasn't for amazing people like Malcolm.
