    I have used Flex Hones on over 25 shotgun barrels from 12 gauge to .410 and chambers as well as the sizing dies for a PW reloader. The improvement is nothing short of remarkable! Others use steel wool and lapping compounds but IMO the Flex Hone system does a more thorough job and more consistently honed surface with no chance of inducing a low spot.
    Unlike the video warning, I don't think you can over hone because once the hone is done smoothing up the surface it will quit cutting.
    Strongly recommend.

      The point is to provide as smooth a surface, especially for the chambers, inside the shotgun barrel. The chamber smoothness helps in extraction and ejection, especially for semi autos. It also will smooth the choke area to help in minimizing the build up of plastic and other detritus. I have never used on a gun equipped with choke tubes so can't comment on them. @@bwm3013

      @@billeddleman531 I have pitting in barrel (chambers seem ok). Will it take out barrel putting?

    • @billeddleman531

      I very much doubt it. The Flex hone system does not move much metal. It removes the irregular finish applied by the barrel hones when barrels are made. A pit that is clearly visible is already gotten too deep to be removed by the flex hone. Those would need to honed out with a rigid hone first, and then the Flex hone can polish out that honing roughness. In other words, once you have pits you must have enough metal removed via honing to bring the barrel walls down to the depth of the pit to remove them. Sorry, but that is what is required. @@bwm3013

    I understand this is a 12-year video, but I recently learned about Brush Research Honing Brushes. I've purchased several older shotguns that are rusted, pitted, or have poor bore and chamber maintenance. In some of them, the shells would get stuck in the chamber and wouldn't eject or extract. I've honed four barrels and a couple of chambers, which have come out amazing. For the rougher ones, I use the 180, 400, and 800 in sequential order. Most of the time, I can get the pitting out, but the pitting has been greatly reduced for the more severe ones. Great product.

    @DEEREMEYER1 Thank you for purchasing one of our tools. The improved finish from the Flex-Hone will allow the brass to “fall” from the cylinder with ease, and eject smoothly from the chamber with reduced scarring for better reloads. If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact our customer service team. Happy honing!

    Using the Flex-Hone Tool is extremely easy for a novice. Even if you've never used a Flex-Hone before you should have no problem. The RPM guidelines are really just that; guidelines. On a typical consumer grade hand drill, you can run the tool at "full speed".

  • @Brushresearch
    @Brushresearch  11 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The Flex-Hone is not a metal removal tool. It may be possible if you spent a good deal of time with many more strokes than we would normally recommend.

    The use of the Flex-Hone® Tool will polish the ID of the chamber and improve fast extraction. The smoother surface finish doesn’t give the brass a surface to "grab" onto as the bass expands under detonation. In addition the Flex-Hone® will impart a slight edge break and may improve your opening problem. The Flex-Hone will not harm the firearm in any manner. Our tools are used extensively by SASS shooters. With the improved chambers the shells are ejected quickly and allow for faster reloading.

    Wouldve been nice to see the before and after. My .45ACP chamber looks kinda crappy due to factory machining. And id like to see if a hone would help with that.

    • @d-rayphelps1630

      I hope that you are not serious. Definitely don't use this product to polish your 45 barrel. This is for smooth bore shotguns. For your gun you need a bore brush and clean the barrel, the use a bore mop or patch around your brush a container of JB bore paste. Then polish away!!! Have a good one

      For the chamber area is an ideal use of the flex hone! Just follow the instructions.

    I have a paintball barrel that is .678, could this tool possibly be used to bump it up .680? It is squeezing the paintballs just a little too much and i know it wont work in the summer at that size because of the gelatin shell expanding in the summer.

    When doing a shotgun with removeable chokes. Do you leave chokes in? Remove them? How do you protect threads if you remove them?
    Also what is that blue rubber stuff in that gunsmiths vise?

      @CalebWayneMcCready 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brute1100 use a choke tube you aren’t afraid to mess up. If you have one in the gun that you like swap it with a cheap one while you use this.

    Not a very good job....the rod is flexing all the way to the bottom of the bore each time and back up again...uneven bore and non concentric.

    • @billeddleman531
      @billeddleman531 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, but the honing bristles are the only part that needs to be engaging the barrel innards and they purposely flex some. They being sized properly and with their own consistent flex form a slurry which is what does the work. The shaft flexing has no effect whatsoever because it is not attached to a rigid hone like a brake hone.
