    Definitely found it easier to transition from ukulele to guitar....the struggle has been trying to learn piano. That shit is hard to teach yourself

    Transitioning from the violin to the guitar is pretty hard for me, so I settled for the ukulele :) best thing ever!

    • @Atrionix
      @Atrionix 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tbh the transition would be the pretty much the same for guitar or ukulele.. they both have the same principles... u should’ve chosen guitar since it has fuller sound and it more authentic IMO

    • @paulapueblitolopez5858
      @paulapueblitolopez5858 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      B3kwags: they share most of the basics but definitely not the same principles. If that were to be true, then what's the darn difference between these two? The ukulele is drastically smaller than a guitar, in fact it's roughly the same size of a full size violin! Let's not forget about the fingerboard; it's not as wide as a guitar's, and the chords are easier to play. A F chord on the uke is simpler than that on a guitar. Furthermore, playing an instrument with 2 extra strings than what you're normally used to is challenging. Yeah, I agree that the guitar sounds far more wholesome, but the ukulele helped me transition to said instrument! I have no regrets in buying and investing time into this fun little uke :)

      Hey I know this comment is old but Mandolin has the same tuning as a violin, it's just picked instead of bowed, so it might be an easy transition.

    Transition from being an uke player to a guitar player is very challenging for me . In my first journey in learning ukulele i really love watching your tutorial because some of your tutorials are very easy to learn so after few months i bought a guitar since i often like challenging myself more.There are times that i almost give up but after two months I'm proud to say that i can strum without looking at my fretboard. Thanks a lot 😘

    • @isabellalonde6208
      @isabellalonde6208 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      A lot of the chords are the same, just called different things. Like D on guitar is G on ukulele.

    • @mewingmanda
      @mewingmanda 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      if you put a capo on your guitar on the 5th fret then the bottom four strings are tuned the same as the ukulele. the only difference is that the G string is an octave lower, but still pretty similar.

  • @coccomotion
    @coccomotion 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I find it helpful to realize that the strings on a ukulele are tuned up a fourth from the top four strings on a guitar. That’s why a G has the same chord shape as a D on the guitar. A ukulele is like a guitar with a capo on the fifth fret, missing two base strings, and the fourth string up an octave. That might be confusing to some, but I find it helpful when transposing songs.

    To convert a guitar into a ukulele, just put a capo at the fifth fret and play only the bottom four strings.

  • @alykgray

    honestly guitar is so hard for me just because of the fact that it has six strings instead of 4 so I just use a baritone uke bc it has 4 strings but they’re the same as the bottom 4 on a guitar

    Yay I’m so happy I found this! I got a uke last year for Christmas and LOVED it. This year I got a guitar and was having a very hard time transitioning to using a pick for strumming/fingerpicking and my friend kept making fun of me telling me I needed to use a pick, that that’s the proper way to play. You made me feel better using fingerstyle haha. Happy holidays. 😊

    I transitioned from Violin to Ukulele. My friend and I started playing at the same time 2 months ago, except she didn’t do Violin before. Yesterday I asked her how her progress was going with uku, I can officially play uku. I can transition, do bar chords and the whole shebang. My friend gave up because it hurt. I am so grateful that my parents forced me to play violin so that I could skip the pain and didn’t lose inspiration like I did with Violin.

    There's an instrument called the Guitalele (which is basically a hybrid between the guitar and ukulele) and if you were to play one, you would notice that ukulele and guitar are actually extremely similar, and that a ukulele IS basically a guitar but only with the bottom 4 strings, 4 frets higher, and the top string of a ukulele is actually an octave higher than on guitar. That's why a G on the ukulele looks the same as a D on the guitar... and almost all of the chords do that if you just add the top two strings... EX: C in uke is actually G on guitar, F in uke is C on guitar, Am on uke is Em on guitar.... and honestly you can play the ukulele on guitar if you put a capo on the 4th fret and make sure not to play the top two strings

    I bought a Ukulele Sept/Oct last year and now, I'm planning to buy a guitar for my 21st birthday in July. I started writing songs when I got the ukulele last year and I think now I'm finally ready for the guitar. In the meantime, I will keep on writing and learn my guitar soon and maybe.... by summer next year, I'd be going out to public and start performing for real haha. Will be updating! Summer 2022.

    I like both!
    I think with guitar you have more opportunity to play songs
    On the other hand ukulele has better sound when it's about higher notes

    I know this video is 3 years old but I'm commenting anyway,
    I just bought myself a fender telecaster ukulele!!
    I've always liked the idea of playing the guitar, especially electric guitar. But when I tried to learn, my fingers hurt too much and I gave up (I didn't buy a guitar, my mum plays)
    Last year I pucked up my mum's ukulele and it made me so happy, I didn't even get much pain in my fingers.
    I hope to play the guitar in the future, I like the idea of getting a matching guitar to my telecaster uke 😂

    Omg TYSM i've been learning guitar and it's so much harder than the uke (but that's kind of obvious lol). Most of this stuff i'm pretty familiar with, but the video was still helpful regardless. Great advice! Thanks boo!
    Also, i hope you'll start making some more guitar tutorials!! I miss those! :)

    1-4 strings on a guitar at the 5th are the same as a ukulele. However, the g is an octave down. That's why some chords look very similar.

    I've been an acoustic guitar (steel string) player for about 3 years now, and i'm going to get a ukulele for use in LARPs and when travelling, playing mostly stuff like John Dowland or Gaspar Sanz. Hopefully the smaller amount of strings is going to make bass acompaniment easier compared to playing those same pieces on guitar.
    I'm curious if you ve ever thought of learning such tunes on the ukelele, Elise. Things like Frog Galliard or What If A Day can sound really nice on a uke.

      You should get a guitalele it has 6 strings like a guitar and the size of ukulele, it’s really easy to learn if you already know guitar

    • @jacebeleren1703
      @jacebeleren1703 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mvddiekay problem is that many European LARPs dont allow guitar-family instruments unless they look medieval. And i have found a lute-kulele, or to be more precise, a ukulele that looks exactly like a lute, which i'm going to get.

    I'm thankful that I know guitar and to start my ukulele because it will be easier especially the *STRINGS!* Its not that hard to slide in the uke!

    If you're playing an electric guitar, you might get several different body shapes. For example, hollowbody guitars (e.g. The Gretsch Country Gentleman) tend to have a somewhat similar thickness to the acoustic guitar. Meanwhile, solid body guitars (e.g. The Fender Mustang) generally tend to had a more shortly cut body (I.e., the body is much more shallow than a hollowbody/acoustic).

  • @AliyahMercedes

    I first started playing guitar and it was difficult at first! But when I get used to it, its easy. I just cant play barchords yet since I started playing the guitar this summer. I tried playing the ukulele although I still prefer guitar even though the ukulele is easier than the guitar. When you play songs on the ukulele, the song isnt that great for completing it. The guitar fit for all of the song music.

    What is easier to use for a complete as in 100% beginner? Like my family recommends me buying a guitar but I feel like I can nver learn the guitar because it seems harder to learn. What is easier to learn? And what is better in quality of the sound?
