I won't go too into history, but Australia actually has a decent bit of Irish descendants due to operating a penal state that Irish "criminals" were sent to during the famine. Not all were prisoners though. Some people went in search of work. If you are interested, check into Botany Bay. There's a song about it from the view of the people searching for work called Shores Of Botany Bay and others about the prisoners who were shipped off there.
