The Dark Truth Of Male Domination In Tribes | Extreme Tribe | Part 2 | Documentary Central

- From the producers of the award-winning series The Tribe, the documentary series Extreme Tribe: The Last Pygmies provides a rare look into the lives of the remote Mbendjele tribe. Told from a unique female perspective, filmmaker Livia Simoka spends five months with this Pygmy community of hunter-gatherers living harmoniously within the jungle of the Republic of the Congo.
Almost entirely cut off from the outside world and inaccessible by road, Livia is welcomed by a close-knit family who treat her as their own. She is fully immersed in their daily lives from sharing in unexpected tragedies to observing the significance of tribal traditions like female tooth sharpening.
Traditionally the Pygmies are regarded as egalitarian, with women on a broadly equal footing with men, but as Livia gains insight into their common practices including polygamy, she reveals a darker truth where domestic violence and male domination is still prevalent. Over the months she learns of the Mbendjele’s unique ways of surviving in the isolated rainforest and also discovers threats to their way of life, both from hostile neighbours and a new road that is planned to be built through their land.

The introduction of Prince was hilarious, he puts on his best display for 5 minutes before it is revealed he is a drug dealer, beats innocent people and owns slaves😂

It's amazing how they live and laugh at times ❤

There is a " prince " in every hood.
He towers over the pygmies, thinks he's better than them, built like a bull...a pure bully.

It's so nice seeing a documentary with a female perspective. The local women and even the children seem much more relaxed, friendly, and open compared to a traditional documentary hosted by a man. It's hard seeing people being taken advantage of but it's something we're all familiar with in some way. The Mbendjele seem resilient and I hope their future is full of peace and happiness.
Ngl it’s very nice to see a female westerner in the tribes. In fact this is the first documentary that shows that actual dark side of tribes
@WarriorCatsNeon agreed. Similar docs with male hosts I've seen would have been at the gathering with the men of the tribe fostering comraderie . Documenting that perspective. Just as valuable , dont get me wrong.
In strongly gender defined cultures it could be difficult getting both perspectives in a socially acceptable way. The women often will not be as candid with a male as with a woman. Etc .
bro yall living in an echochamber theres also tons of documentaries that shw dark sides wtf
It is nice to see a woman doing the career she wants and doing it her way. She can’t claim men are in her way preventing her from being paid her worth because she’s put in the work and is doing it for herself and succeeding. Brava! 😊
@jesusisking314 Stop proselytizing and work on yourself. These creepy religious comments are on every video and have nothing to do with the topic. You're spreading incorrect information and half truths. Just stop. Go work on your relationship with God. If you truly had one, you wouldn't do this nonsense.
This is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen in my life. The perspective of a woman is so refreshing and different in this type of documentaries, the way she approaches to communicate, the bonding she makes with the females of the village, is really amazing the warm and maternal view of a village full of conflict and difficulties. It's amazing how she is so open and strong, she has no fear of tasting anaconda meat, of having parasitic worms in her feet, and she has no fear to confront directly Prince and ask him to rethink and reconsider his way of acting.
It's the Northwestern European way. That's why Scandinavians have the best quality of life on the planet.

Its called Ubuntu.
Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning 'humanity to others'. It is often described as reminding us that 'I am what I am because of who we all are'.
It is the philosophy bantus live by and also their system of governance.

In Nguni, and I am Swati which is one of the Nguni languages in South Africa, the word bantu means people. The word Ubuntu means COLLECTIVE people. Or simply humanity. I find it interesting that the word is used in Congo. Up North from South Africa.

I really worry for mondonga and the rest of the pygmy tribe. When we first saw prince he looked as if he was recovering from a black eye. And then another guy had his hand wrapped up during the trial. So i really feel that they can be very violent and after the crew leaves i really feel it will get worse for them. And i also feel that the "court" only took his side because of the cameras and trying to look all civil when in reality they can be animals as well. Look at prince's rage. Circumcision is a mutilation but I would say it is a good- purpose mutilation, for hygienic purposes, it does have benefits. It has even more benefits in a society that don't have access to the modern medical equipment. It is a medical procedure done by people that have experience with this procedure. It might seem brutal because of the blood, yes, you do cut skin and skin has nerves, so it hurts, but it's only that at the end the day, a bit of skin cut off, you don't touch the penis in itself. The operation reduces significantly the chances of infections, genital diseases or STI for the man, as well as STI that are can be transmitted to women in intercourse, and even to the baby if she becomes pregnant with a man that has an STI. It's also way more hygienic. It's a good thing, for a little bit of skin cut off.

This doc had everything I'd never admit I was interested to know about their way of life. Fascinating. A bit shocking, but fascinating.
I have question about the Bantu Man, Prince, saying he owned that family. Could you elaborate on how he came about to own them and perhaps, conversely, there should be a way to "Liberate" this family from whatever debt that they owe to this man that can be payed off. Maybe a GoFundMe account could be set up to go about liberating these people from such ownership, family by family, until they are free from any obligations to the Bantu. It appears marijuana, cigarettes, and alcohol may be the main agents and that liberating themselves by eliminating these things from their community (unless they are able manufacture or grow it themselves) as it results in alot of the conflict and enables the Bantu to have an edge over them. Something to consider to propose to the Tribe. Incredibly inciteful and poignant documentary. Truly riveting! Bravo on your hard work on this film. A great achievement!
If you knew about the (pretty much) accepted, commonplace interactions of all of these different groups of people, you'd think some of these situations unfair and obviously wrong, and you'd want to start a GoFundMe for probably 75% of everyone, but they have a deeper understanding of the history and customs and traditions, they've been doing itthesame way for maybe thousands of years, in some cases, and it has to be more complicated than we can know, from an outside perspective
This concept isn’t abnormal. It’s grown out in most areas of the world and isn’t seen much. Owning a family or being subject to someone as a form to pay off a debt has been around since the very beginning.
As a person from the DRC I'll try to explain. I think by own he means that he is the head of the family hence he "owns" the family. He could be the oldest son that's why he owns them. It is not slavery (it can feel like it trust me) it's just how the family dynamic is. Things are not being directly translated in this documentary and some words are getting lost in translation. It's like a cut wound on the finger. No need to blur every bloody scene. People can fast forward to skip the parts that they don't want to see.
It's important that people see the reality.
the elder women put up with NO crap and i love them so much
Wisdom❤
This lady is amazing, living with strangers in the middle of nowhere and gossiping this great .I'm in love with how she relates to them
Why is everyone putting their 2 cents worth in in criticising this woman but they are sitting here watching with curiosity.
This is something I would tune in to watch on a regular!
I LOVE Livia ! What a wonderful Beautiful Documentary! Please create more!
Every regressive anarchist needs to see this documentary series
And every fan of patriarchy should watch it, too.
Patriarchy is not bad.
Its the people who abuse it that are.
Hating on patriarchy is like saying all white people are racists or saying that all women are murders than men because they abort babies.
@@kape2469😂😂😂
@@kape2469 and every crybaby woman in the USA who thinks the patriarchy here is sooooo awful should watch it too! they'd have a better understanding of what a patriarchy looks like. we have law and order to protect us, they have logs that are on fire to burn him alive. I don't know which life is better, do you?
And every mud shark too
The pygmy people still have their teeth made into spike shape as well amazing documentary. Can't believe this lady a westerner survived so long in the jungle with worms burrowing into her feet etc
Realizing how they live isn’t sad, it’s surviving in their circumstances. Seeing this shows us how much we are spoiled w, that we don’t quite need. These people are survivors. They have half of what we do . But Twice as much strength . It’s beautiful do I like the lady treating them as an experiment, maybe not but that’s my opinion I hope they received compensation for recording this . Bringing awareness is one . But action is change
comparison is the biggest thief.
They are not surviving.
Its not like they are also starving because of food shortage or they dont have a roof over their head.
To them they are just living a normal life.
@princezee5127
I’m not comparing in that way like you said that is a normal day to day life for them. They are surviving and if we didn’t have so much done for us in America we would be left with the same result. It made me cherish what we have here more and admire their strength to survive and have the same community structure just less resources.
they have way less than half of what we had. I am so grateful to see a comment that makes people realize how privileged everyone in western countries are. everyone complains. even the poor here have it way better than this.
8:45 Prince knew exactly what he was doing! Bad boyyyy 😁😂
When she said that he talked about having a python, I did a double take until she said "chopped up and smoked" xD
😅😅
Sure did wanted her to give him a better life AND OWN HER at the same time. What a dirtbag.
Excellent documentary. Thanks for posting this jewel.
❤😂Those sweet, smiling little boys with their bamboo "guns"...too priceless!!
Too young to feel that kind of pain😢😢
Exactly. I surprise they survive it😢
Is better when he young because if it is old, the skin is getting stronger, and if they didn't ✂️ the ladies are going to talk about you, which means you are dirty.Around the penis has white stuff ,as a men easy to clean yourself if you are not cut off the skin is hurt to pull the skin of your penis to clean. I hope u understand me.
What a great rare documentary, I'm glad I witness this. Thank you so much for sharing this. 🙏
According to Colin Turnbulls book "The Forest People" circumcision was forced on them by the Bantus originally. But they seem to have adapted to it, sadly. People adapt.
1st time seeing you n can only say you’re a brave beautiful strong headed woman n very easy on the eyes.
Just amazed by your grit going into a place like that, Kudos too you Mam.
Love your documentaries, keep up the good work dear
What a beautiful video with such beautiful people ! I love how the women stand and support eachother to protect their kids. They do not act as victims. ❤❤❤❤❤
What does that mean? A victim is the one who is attacked.
@@FasterFaster196It means that many western women stand with male abusers of other women and not with the women. Take women supporting deviant men in womens bathrooms and sports as an example.
@@FasterFaster196Victim mentality leaves people helpless in their own minds so they act helpless.
@@canadachandler7521Stop trying to demonize the term victim. Those women are still victims even when they defend themselves. 🙄
At least the chiefs have common sense, and im glad Prince lost. Mondonga deserved that win 🏆 ❤
Very fascinating to watch such documentaries from remote tribes..but sad to realize that women's suffering is a common phenomenon everywhere in the world
Women in America hardly suffer.
@@rachel7825 not true.
You think those men aren’t suffering as well? It seems to me all these people are suffering
Wonderful documentary! The life and social behavior mirrors that of city dwellers in fully developed countries. I don't know why I expected anything different because the tribespeople are jungle dwellers.
errrmmm what? us city dwellers in fully developed countries aren't allowed to beat the shit out of our wives and wives aren't allowed to enact justice by setting the beater on fire. we have law and order and clearly the Bantu "courthouse" was agreed upon before hand because the people there were going to record them and they wanted to show the world that they really aren't prejudiced against the poorer tribe. sooooooo similar, not. LOL
I hope this documentary will let people now more about the pygnies. The ongoing war in the DRC has displaced them and many lost their lifes, minding their own business but targeted by different groups fighting
This was very interesting to watch. We have no idea whats going on on the other side of the world. Some joys, some sadness.
How about, just spitballing here, how about we leave the f*cking indigenous tribes alone.
Look, she pretty obviously have permission to be there
Yes, these comments justify that comment. Such ignorant people commenting, I hope they get humbled some day
Who is we?
Then why are you watching?
I thought it was absolutely fascinating. I loved seeing inside a culture we'd never know about otherwise!
As a somali person i respect how she treats them yes they live jn bushes and can be taken anytime for farm work and extreme labor but people like u keep them protected and i respect that we must protect and respect the animals such as squirrels rabbits and these people too thank you
Struck by prince!!!❤️❤️❤️ Beautiful!!! 😍😍😍
The fights make my heart beat so fast, i hate situations like that 😢
imagine how the times have not changed
im dying to know which one she hooked up with. :) Im not downplaying the journalism. she is truly great and made the most entertaining and enlightening african tribe doc ive ever seen
If they got access to clothes and you have no danger going their, they aint cutoff from the world
The way she took that thing out of her toe😂😂😂😂, she is a whole nurse!!
What a fabulous documentary! Trying to find the second part. Any idea where I can find? Thanks
Most of this is alcohol related
I don't know if this woman is brave, insane or so well protected she doesn't care or all three. There are a hundred ways things can go south in this situation, the foot worms being the least of them. Either way, I'm glad she brought the film to us mortals.
Quite enjoyable! Thanks.
This film maker is one the first who really seems to mix up with the people, respect and blend in with the culture. ❤
The title was misleading
I can agree this was a really good doc!
